《Start A Fire In My Heart (Grillby x Reader)》Chapter 2

Running into your apartment and locking the door behind you, you quickly throw off your jacket and scarf. You start to look around for your metal heater. Finding it you plug it into your room, and set the heat for the highest setting and wait for it to heat up. You set the little flame on your bed as your run out to get a little blanket. It would be quite large on him but would definitely keep him warm.
Well. You assumed it was a him, Anyway.
You walk back into your room, the only well decorated room in the house so far. Your ex had taken most of the furniture with him when he left so you haven't the time to redecorate.
The little flame was still asleep but wasn't shivering as badly as he was. You sighed then let out a yawn. With it nearing midnight you were tired and needed some sleep. You started to change into your night clothes and threw the old ones in the dirty hamper.
Crawling over the little flame and setting your phone on charge you tried to get situated. You wrap the flame up in the blanket and cuddle him as close to you as possible for the heat. Slowly you drifted away into the land if dreams.

You woke up a bit differently than when you went to sleep. The small flame was now standing right next to your face trying to wake you up by poking you cheek.
You shot up and rubbed your eyes, clearing any sleep from them. It seems you had forgotten about taking home a flame last night.
Looking down at the little flame you notice he looked outwardly startled at your sudden burst if energy.
"Hey." You say quite awkwardly. He responds with a little wave. "Oh! You must be wondering what you're doing here! Sorry. So um I found you in the middle of the near by park lake and it was freezing, so I decided to take you home."

"It's okay. Thank you" His voice was wispy like smoke. It was kinda hard to hear considering his size. It sounded like a whisper almost.
Trying to avoid being rude, you jumped out of bed and knelt next to the bed to look him as to look him in the eyes. "What's your name?" You ask quietly.
"Grillby"
"Well, grillby, would you like some breakfast?"
He nodded.
"How about eggs and bacon? Does that sound good to you?''
He nodded again.
You held out your hand to him and he hesitatingly climbed into the palm of your hand. You stood up carefully as to not jostle him. On your way out the door you grabbed a extra pillow and went to the living room.
Setting the pillow down on the couch you gently placed him on there. You grabbed the remote and set it next to him. He was large enough to press the button at least.
Sighing you walked to the kitchen to get breakfast started. You got out a pan and turned on the over and started to mix the eggs. Pouring them into the pan and continually stirring them your body was busy but your mind was not. Of course, you have a small flame to take care of but the memory's of the night before came back to without your permission. Your stupid fucking boyfriend! Your stupid fucking boss! Your stupid fucking job! How could they! Of course you still have your job as a waitress down at the salt & pepper diner, but its pay was minimal. Hardly enough to get you through your monthly rent.
You sigh, looking at the time. Your shifts starts at 10pm and last to 6am. What would you do with grillby? Taking the now cooked eggs out of the pan and popping the bacon in your annoying thoughts continue. Ugh! What were you to do? Your friends lived another state over and you hardly had any money for an airplane ticket. The bacon was done, interrupting your thoughts for now.

You find a little bowl for grillby and cut the bacon into smaller pieces and a small portion of eggs. You fixed your plate and brought it into the living room where grillby seemed to be entrenched by the TV. Looking at it you see its Sherlock. That won't keep anyone entertained for long with only three season. (I'm not sorry btw ~Dani)
You settle in beside him and put the plate on the couch and you sit on the floor so your weight doesn't knock it over. You both eat in a comfortable silence. Once done you stand up to look outside and see its become more of a blizzard now.
"Say, grillby, don't you have a home do you?"
"Ahh, yes I do actually but..."
He sounded embarrassed.
"I...can't go out in this weather. I'm still in the process of healing.. I..I mean I could probably make it back to my bar if I started before noon.."
He trailed off.
"Do you want me to leave?"
He sounded slightly sad.
"Oh nononono I didn't mean it like that but I have to work today and I didn't know if you wanted to stay here."
"(Y/N) it would be lovely to stay here but where do you work?"
You flushed red. hah only tell him about the waitress thing. You didn't want him to think any different of you.
"I work in the salt and pepper diner down on main street." (Props to you if you get it)
"Isn't that dangerous? Walking down there at night?"
"N...not really"
He looked unsure but settled back into the couch to continue with Sherlock. You took the plates to the kitchen then did the same. It was gonna be a long day.

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/

Shieldmaiden: Unbroken
An instant is all that's needed to change a persons life. A single encounter. A single desire can bring together many people to change the world. One thought. From the moment humanity began its course of self-destruction, there were those who desired to change the world for the better. To stop the harm to their planet, and themselves, a group of people came together and formed a world from their imaginations. They decided that humanity could not be a part of the world they would destroy, and would allow the world to recoup. They would pull the people from their world in groups, and until everyone was gone, every month more people would be brought to this new world. An unfamiliar world. An unfamiliar people. An unfamiliar system. I never expected to write a LITRPG, or an Isekai, and I'm not confident I can do it well, but I liked writing the first chapters, so I'm gonna try my best! Also, I don't recommend reading it on mobile.
