《The End》Part 5: The Original Hybrid

Rosa was standing agains a wall crying, trying to convince herself it was a dream while Elena attempted to talk to Stefan.
"This isn't happening. Why would it be happening? It's a dream." Rosalina mumbled to herself. "Of course it's a dream why else would I be here? I would never come to senior prank night, I hate things like that. This is a nightmare." She told herself.
"Caroline's dad! Stefan, he was able to resist compulsion. I don't know how, but he did it. Maybe it's possible." Elena told Stefan, annoyingly hopeful.
"Yeah, yeah. Maybe it's just mind control, right? Maybe it just takes some focus, a couple of decades of training. No big deal." Stefan shouted while pacing around the gym floor. Every once in a while they glanced at Rosa who was panicking against the wall, but neither said anything.
"Stefan, you can control this. When that buzzer goes off, just...just drink from me." Elena said softly.
"Yeah Stefan, just drink my sisters blood. Because that's totally normal!" Rosa shouted. The two looked at her and then back to each other.
"You don't get it. I can't stop, Elena! I'm a ripper! A ripper doesn't stop! I listen to the words that come out of your mouth, and all I hear is the sound of your heart pumping blood through your body. And when that clock ticks down...I'm going to have to feed on you. And you want to know what's worse? I'm not going to be able to stop." Rosa watched them, tears blurring her vision. She placed her hands over her ears, mumbling to herself.
"I don't believe that. You can fight it. You just have to want it bad enough." Elena urged.
"Why, because I love you?"
"Yeah! That's right, Stefan. Because you love me. You'll fight because after everything that we've been through, you owe me that!" Elena cried.
"You know what, you're right. You're right. I owe you everything. Because through all of this, you are the one thing that has kept me from giving up; from turning it all off. But I can't help what I am, Elena. The more blood that I get, the more I want, and if I get so much as near yours...You are dead." Rosa looked up at him, slowly inching closer to her sister. Rosa was terrified and confused, but she wasn't going to let her sister get hurt. Rosa looked up at the clock that now read five minutes. That how long she had to live. Five more minutes.
✰
Only 16 seconds remained on the clock. Elena was still trying to stop Stefan and Rosa was mostly crying, after she got no answers from both Stefan and Elena about what was going on.
"Elena, you and Rosa are going to have to run." Stefan told them.
"But Klaus said that if we run..." She started.
"I know what he said, but if you stay, it won't matter. Elena, please, please, please. Elena there's no other way." Stefan begged her. Rosa walked closer to her sister and grabbed her hand, giving it a hard squeeze.

"There's another way, Stefan. It's for you to fight." Suddenly the buzzer went off, and Elena and Rosa looked at each other and then to Stefan.
"Stefan...I love you. Fight, Stefan. Don't give up." Elena said, tears in her eyes.
"I can't hold it."
Stefan began to speed towards Elena and Rosa, causing them both to scream, but passes them. Ending up on the opposite wall.
"Elena, run! Go!"
"Elena, let's go!" Rosa shouted, pulling on her sisters arm. The girls ran out the door and began to run down the hallways of the school. The girls can hear Stefan fighting himself as they continue to run. As he runs out of the gym, he forces himself to stop, but ends up crashing into the lockers on both sides. Elena drags Rosalina into a small room, closes the door and peaks through the window. The girls turn around and start moving when they bump right into Klaus.
"We've got to stop meeting like this." Klaus said. Klaus then pulled onto Elena and Rosalina's arms and into the cafeteria. When they entered the cafeteria, they saw Stefan with the end of a broom stick sticking out of his stomach. "Now this is fascinating. I've never seen this before. The only thing stronger than your craving for blood is your love for this one girl. Why don't you turn it off?"
Klaus let's go of the girls and sits down on the table nearby. "No!" Stefan shouted.
"Come on. Your humanity is killing you. All the guilt must be exhausting. Turn it off."
"No!" Stefan shouted once more.
"Stefan..." Elena started.
"You're strong." Klaus interrupted. He pulled the stake out of Stefans body, which made Rosa wince at just looking at the gory image. "But you're not that strong. Turn. It. Off."
"No!" Stefan pushed Klaus away from him, but Klaus is stronger. Klaus pushed Stefan against the wall and begins to compel him while he yells.
"Turn it off!" Klaus screamed. Rosa watched as Stefans face seemed to change. He seemed still, no longer emotional.
"What did you do?" Elena asked.
"I fixed him. But I think a test is in order, don't you?" Klaus walked behind Elena and gave Stefan a look or signal. "Ripper...perhaps you'd like a drink...from the doppelgängers neck?"
Stefans face changes and he rushes over to Elena and bites her neck. Elena screams and Rosa watches in shock.
"No!" Rosa screamed. "Stop it!"
✰
Rosa was sitting on the chair next to her sister, who was laying on the hospital bed. Klaus was also there. He had compelled Rosalina to stop crying and to calm down.
"So, Rosalina. How come I had never even heard of you before a few days ago?" Klaus asked. He looked at Rosa who was staring at her sister. "Of course, I forgot I compelled you not to talk." Klaus stepped closer to Rosalina, ignoring the fear in her eyes and began to compel her. "Until your dear sister Elena wakes up, you can talk and you will answer all my questions truthfully. Understand?" Rosa nodded softly. "Good. Now answer my question."

"I...I don't know." She muttered.
"Interesting, Elena must really have wanted you out of all this." He spoke mostly to himself. "Do you know what I am?" Rosa shook her head, tears silently falling. "We both know that's not true, love."
"You're a vampire." Rosalina's voice was barely audible.
"Close enough. I'm the original hybrid." Rosa looked at him both confused and terrified which made Klaus smirk. "That means that I am part vampire, the original vampire and I am part werewolf." Rosa shook her head as more tears fell from her eyes.
"No."
"No?"
"This...this is all some joke that Caroline and Elena and Damon and Stefan and Bonnie and whoever else made up. I don't know who you are or what is going on, but vampires and werewolves and witches and whatever other supernatural creatures there are don't exist. So stop collecting my sisters fake blood and stop. Elena you can wake up now, haha you guys won best prank. Congratulations now wake up." At this point Rosalina was having a breakdown and Klaus watched amused.
"I like you." He told her. "After seeing everything you just did, you believe this is all some joke. It's amazing how reluctant humans are to believe in the supernatural yet many of you believe in aliens and unicorns and whatever."
"I don't." Rosa mumbled. Klaus smirked.
"Then you are a very smart girl, who has been lied to." He said. Rosa looked up at him and his face began to change. Dark purple veins showed under his eyes which made Rosa begin to panic. She tried to run away and scream, but she couldn't do either. "Calm down, love." Klaus said. Rosa didn't know why she listened, but something forced her to stop. "Much better."
"Please don't hurt me...or my family." Rosa whispered.
"Don't say a word, don't move, just sit. You may leave in a few hours. " Klaus whispered back, compelling her.
A nurse suddenly walked in as Elena fluttered awake. "Where am I?" She asked.
"In the hospital, sweetie. You suffered through a terrible ordeal." The nurse answered.
"I have to get out of here." Elena said while attempting to sit up. She hadn't yet noticed her silent sister sitting in the chair. The nurse gently put a stop to Elena which made her sigh.
"Ah. Not an option. You've lost a lot of blood." She said. The nurse pointed to the blood bag sitting on the bed next to Elena. She looked at it confused.
"Wait...you're taking my blood?" She asked confused and still a bit out of it from being passed out.
"Of course. It's very important for your friend Klaus." Elena looked around her room as she struggled to get out of her bed. She locked eyes with her sister and urged for help. "Rosie, help me." Elena used to call Rosalina Rosie and Rosa would call Elena Ellie. As they grew apart they also grew out of those nicknames. As Elena struggled, Rosa gave her sister a sorrowful look knowing she couldn't move. Klaus had left her like that for a while, just waiting in the chair.
"Don't fight it, sweetie. He told me you need plenty of rest." The nurse said as she injected Elena with a sedative. As soon as Elena's injected she falls back on her pillow, asleep.
✰
After a while of Rosa watching her sister sleep, Damon entered the room. He looked at Rosalina and then to Elena and sighed.
"Damon..." Elena mumbled.
"Hey." He said softly. He put his arms under Elena and lifted her off the bed and began to carry her off the bed.
"Wait...make sure Rosa comes." She muttered, still out of it. Damon looked at Rosa who seemed afraid of him.
"Rosa, come on." She just stared at him knowing she couldn't move. Damon rolled his eyes and continued to walk out the door leaving Rosalina behind.
✰
Rosalina was able to leave after a few hours of being trapped in that hospital. She didn't know what to do or where to go though. She had no friends to talk to and all of Elena's friends were like Klaus and Stefan or at least that's what Rosa had assumed. She could try and find Elena, but why should she? Elena never told her any of this. Suddenly Rosa realized her necklace was gone. The necklace was a gift from Elena from a while ago. Elena told Rosa to never take it off and Rosa did just that. How could she have lost it?
When Rosa got home, no one else was there. She quickly ran up to her room and locked the door and began to cry. She hated crying and now she felt like that's all she's been doing, but she couldn't stop. Vampires and werewolves and witches and hybrids and more exist. And Elena and Stefan and Bonnie, Matt, Tyler, Caroline and who else knew about it. They all lied to her.
Dear Jenna,
It's been a little while since I last wrote, but this is important. Everyone's been lying to me. All the secrets, all the awkwardness, everyone I walked in on a conversation it suddenly stopped. It all makes sense. Supernatural creatures exist and Elena knew. So does Stefan and the rest of her friends. Who knows, maybe even Jermey knows. Maybe you and my parents knew about them too. I don't know what to do or who to talk to. What are you supposed to do in a situation like this because I'm pretty sure they don't exist. I really wish you were here right now, and I wish mom and dad were here. I've cried more in the past day than I have in my entire life. I need someone to help me. I really, really need you. I love you.
Love,
Rosa

Unstable and weakened, will he be more hindrance than help? Among other things, a story about growth, grit, and being better than the person you were yesterday. Here's my rambling on why I'm writing Journey West 5000. Journey West 5000 is my crazy ambitious writing project to adapt a classic epic called "Journey to the West" for a global, modern audience. It's a sci-fi story disguised as fantasy, and has some road trip + monster of the week elements (as does the original Journey to the West). No system, definitely no harem, gradual power progression. Hmm, what else can I put here so potential readers know what to expect? My writing style for now is mostly "show don't tell", because I believe that readers don't need to have everything pointed out to them, and that they should be allowed to make up their own minds about characters based on the actions of those characters. I'm also trying to be less long-winded (a weakness pointed out by some friends) in order to write according to something Neil Gaiman said, which is to write as though I'm the one who has to pay for every word, not the reader. This will bring down my chapter word counts, and might drive away potential readers, but I believe there's value in learning to compress and be concise. All chapters posted here will have been edited. Constructive criticism, comments, and feedback would be very much welcome and appreciated. Please, please help point out any typos or grammatical mistakes, I'm striving to minimize those as much as possible. Above all, I hope you enjoy my story.
