《The End》Part 23: Ghosts

Rosa, Meredith and Jeremy stood outside Elena's hospital room, watching her. Well Rosa was trying to, but she couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the smell of blood.
"She's gonna be fine. She got a little banged up today, hit her head, but it was just a slight concussion, nothing to worry about." Meredith told them.
Jeremy looked at Meredith concerned, "But she collapsed, there was blood." Jeremy argued.
"Honestly, Jeremy, she's okay. She's just...she's been through a lot. Is there anyone you want to call?" Jeremy didn't answer and Meredith walked away.
Jeremy turned to Rosa who was staring at her sister from outside the glass. He could tell something was wrong with her.
"Hey, you okay?" He asked. Rosa turned toward him, veins appearing under her eyes. "Woah, Rosa, your eyes."
Rosa looked to the ground, her hair falling in front of her face. She let out a shaky breath, "I'm sorry. I...I can't control it yet." Jeremy nodded. "I should get out of here. I shouldn't be near all this blood."
Rosa turned around to leave when Jeremy grabbed her arm, "Do you really think it's a good idea for you to be alone right now?"
"I'll be fine, Jer. Caroline said that she's going to start helping me learn to control it, I just can't be here, okay? I'll meet you at home." Jeremy nodded and watched as his sister practically ran out of the hospital.
Once she exited the doors, her breaths were staggered and short. She leaned against the side of the building, hoping no one would see her.
Rosa knew that being turned was hard and the blood lust is hard to control, but she didn't think it would be this bad. She had already killed one person, but it wasn't enough.
Rosa was halfway home when she saw a man walking alone. No one was around and her hunger was uncontrollable. She had to do it so her friends wouldn't see her like this. So Jeremy wouldn't see her like this.
That's what Rosa told herself as she left the man dead in the back of an alley. This was the second body she had left, waiting to be found, but Rosa didn't know what to do.
She had no clue how to hide a dead body. This was all new to her and it felt like no one cared enough to help her. Elena was in the hospital, that's what was most important.
—
When Rosa comes home she is surprised to see Caroline and Elena sitting on the couch together. They look at her as she walks in awkwardly. Rosa hated the embarrassment for having to be invited into her house last night. It stuck in her mind.
"Hey where we're you? Jeremy told me that you left the hospital and you were coming here." Caroline said as she studied her friend carefully.
Rosa bit her lip, not meeting Caroline or Elena's eyes. "Yeah, uhm...I had to do something." She said and then turned to Elena. "How are you?"
"I'm fine." Elena answered. Rosa nodded before walking up to her room.

Rosa had been sitting in her room for about 2 minutes before Caroline barged in. She threw a blood bag at her. Rosa looked down at the blood bag in her hands and then at Caroline who shrugged.
"I'm sorry." Caroline said.
Rosa opened the bag, "For what?" She asked before downing the blood. Caroline watched her friend carefully and sighed.
"I haven't been helping you. I've been so caught up with everything. God, I'm such a bad friend. I went through the same thing and it was awful, I'm so sorry."
Rosa shook her head, more shaky breaths coming out. "Caroline...I did something and you can't tell anyone." It was clear that Caroline knew what Rosa had done. She'd done it too. "I killed someone—two people. I killed two people."
Caroline looked at Rosa, not sure what to say. So she didn't, she just wrapped one arm around Rosa's shoulder, Rosa resting her head on Caroline.
"Caroline, I don't know what to do? I feel like I'm going crazy and...and I'm a murderer." Rosa told her friend, shaking her head. "What am I going to do?"
"You are going to do the same thing that I did. You are going to be fine because me and Stefan and even Damon are all going to help you. You're going to learn control and how to compel and learn all the good things about being a vampire."
Rosa shook her head, "I didn't want this." She mumbled. "I wanted to die. I was going to, but he...he forced—"
"I know." Caroline and Rosa looked at each other. "I promise I'm going to help you get through this." Rosa nodded.
—
Caroline had left a few hours ago, but she said that Stefan was going to be over to help Elena. Rosa decided that she was hungry and hopefully Stefan had some blood or could help her from tearing out either Matt or Elena's throats.
But when she came downstairs she was unpleasantly surprised to see Matt, Stefan, Elena and Elijah chatting in the kitchen.
"What is he doing here?" She asked, feeling a panic come over her. Everyone looked at Rosa as she backed away slowly. "Why is he in our house, Elena?"
"He came to talk." She answered.
Rosa looked at everyone in her house and shook her head, "I don't want you here. Get out!" She screamed.
"Rosa, your emotions are heightened right now. You need to try to calm down." Stefan said.
"Calm down? How can I be calm when I'm a vampire? Your brother killed me. He turned me into this! He's the reason why I have to be invited into my own house. The reason why I need to wear this stupid ring on my finger. He's the reason why all I can think about is blood!" She screamed at him.
Elijah slowly walked towards the girl. He was calm, much calmer than she had ever seen Klaus. "Rosalina, I am truly sorry for what my brother has done to you. If I had known, I would have preferred it had been avoided."

"Well, that makes two of us." She mumbled. She felt calmer now, a little less angry. Rosa turned to Stefan, "Uhm...Stefan, I'm really hungry." She muttered.
Stefan nodded and walked over to her fridge, pulling out a blood bag. "Caroline thought it would be a good idea if we stocked up at your house considering..." Rosa nodded and took the blood back out of his hands and sat down at the table. The others were hesitant but continued there conversation.
"All we need is to take that stake away from him. Once he's been disarmed, the weapons in my possession, my family will scatter to the ends of the earth and Alaric will follow us." Elijah told them.
Elena didn't seem convinced. "And you'll just run?" Stefan than comes over a sits next to Elena.
"We've don't it before. Klaus and Rebekah spent the better part of a thousand years evading my father. What's another half century while Elena is able to live out the rest of her natural life?"
"We've finally stopped him, Elijah. After everything that he's done to us, I can't just let you bring him back." Elena said and Rosa nodded in agreement.
Elijah sighed, "I give you my word, Elena. I will not revive Klaus within yours nor even within your children's lifetimes. Perhaps that will finally teach him some manners." Rosa frowned. Maybe Klaus would be semi-dead for the rest of Elena's life but not Rosa's. Not anymore. Because of Klaus she would have to watch her siblings grow up without her. One day Klaus would come back and she might still be alive.
"Why should she trust you? All you've done is screw her over." Matt said.
Elijah had a guilty look on his face. He knew Matt was right. "And for that, I am deeply ashamed. But know this, she could have been dead the instant I walked through the door tonight, so Elena, I leave it to you to make the decision whether to trust me or not."
Suddenly Damon speaks, he was on the phone. Rosa hadn't even known he was there, "Not! Hello? Did that concussion give you brain damage? His lunatic siblings will kill you the first chance they get! Klaus already turned Rosie!" Damon shouted over the phone.
Elena, Matt and Stefan all looked at Rosa as she bit her lip and looked down at the empty blood bag that she had flattened against the table.
"Rebekah and Kol will honor the terms. If you return Klaus' body to us, Elena will come to no harm." Elena looks to Stefan. "Do we have a deal?"
Damon once again speaks, "No! No, no, no, no! Did I mention no!"
"Elena it's up to you." Stefan told her.
Rosa looked at her sister who was already looking back at her. "Oh come on!" Damon groaned.
"Why do you even want Klaus' body?" She asked.
"He is my brother. We remain together."
Rosa gave Elena the smallest smile, but it was enough. She sighed, "We have a deal."
—
"Let me help." Rosa said confidently as she chased after Stefan. He turned to her and shook his head. "Please."
"Rosa, that's a suicide mission."
Rosa scoffed, "I'm well aware of that. But it's just as dangerous for me as it is for you or Caroline or Jeremy. Please let me help. I can't sit and be useless, I need to help. After What Klaus did you me. Please." Stefan sighed angrily and opened the door to his car for Rosa.
—
Elijah, Caroline and Rosa all rush to the woods to find Stefan and Jeremy. "What happened?" Elena asks. Stefan doesn't answer. Rosa takes a deep breath.
"Stefan?" Caroline asks softly.
Everyone looks at Rosa, tears were in her eyes. Jeremy tried to walk towards his sister, but she shook head and smiled. "Hey, at least everyone else is okay. Plus, I don't think I'm really made to be a vampire."
Rosa could see that Caroline was already crying and Jeremy was about to. Klaus was dead. She would be dead soon as well. It was only a matter of time.
Caroline looks at Rosa, she was crying. "Rosa—"
"Caroline, you have to go see Tyler. Please." Caroline hugs her friend before speeding away. They all wait, but nothing happens.
—
"Jeremy, it's been an hour. Maybe nothings going to happen." Rosa said as her and Jeremy walked into their house.
Jeremy watched his sister carefully, in case anything happens. "It doesn't make sense. When we killed Finn, everyone in his side line died."
"How about we just be happy, that I have t died. At least not yet." Jeremy nodded, but he knew something was wrong.
After a while Jeremy and Rosa are walking down the stairs after Jeremy had left another message for Matt. Neither his or Elena were answering there phones.
"Matt, man, where are you guys? You should have been back by now. I don't know how much time Rosa has left, Elena needs to be here." Jeremy said when he suddenly stops staring straight ahead of him.
Rosa looks where Jeremy was staring, feeling frozen. Jeremy walks a little in front of Rosa, making sure that Alaric would have to go through him first.
"Jeremy, Rosa." Alaric said softly. Jeremy puts his phone down.
"Haven't you done enough?" He asks. "And how'd you even get in here?"
"I don't know. I just wanted to say goodbye and it kind of happened." Jeremy and Rosa look at each other and back to Alaric.
"Ric?" The two ask at the same time.
He nods. "I just wanted you to know that I'll always be here to look after you both. That you two will never be alone, okay? I promise."
"I don't understand." Jeremy said, but Rosa did. She shook her head and Jeremy realizes. "Oh my god, you're a ghost. But if you're dead, that mean..."
"Elena died." Rosa finished, tears rolling down the side of her face. "No!" Rosa screamed as she fell to the floor, Jeremy catching his sister as they sat on the floor together.

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized

Modern Magic
A Modern Magician BookI looked up at the crooked holo sign while the perfectly bred woman read from a paper, a plastic smile glued to her face.'Welcome to The City,' she said in a fake voice. 'Once formerly known as New York, The City is a place filled with ancient and modern wonders. Remember, if you see any magicians please report to the nearest police station or Black Hand officer.'I smiled at the sign and then raised a single finger. No, not the middle one. A blue misty light spun from my finger and into the holo device. The message quickly changed from the fake woman to one of my own.'Welcome to The City,' the woman read, her hair now dyed a fuchsia. Her eyelids were a dark blue and her bottom lip and right eyebrow were pierced. 'A special message from Hecate, queen of magic.' The woman looked up at me, a smirk playing on her lips. 'Welcome to my city.'
