"Mom," Laura hisses at her mother, beckoning her to the kitchen.
Her mother bounces in happily. "Yes darling?"
"What the hell is he doing here?" She can feel her pulse quickening.
"Darling, you need to hear him out."
"What if i don't want to?"
"Then you'll miss pepper steak."
"Mom!" She hisses angrily as her stomach growls.
Five minutes later, Laura is at the table, sitting across from Michael. Laura can't bring herself to look at him, at his handsome structured face, at his bouncy curly hair.
Instead, she concentrates on cutting her steak into a million equal pieces. Her parents leave the table midway, taking their plates with them, with a lame excuse that their favourite show is on TV.
"Hi Laura," Michael starts, putting his fork and knife down. He sounds sorry.
Laura puts her dork and knife down, and with painstaking slowness, she meets his eye, and falls in love all over again.
"I got that promotion at work, by the way."
"Congratulations," she chokes out, unable to look away now that they have locked eyes.
He reaches across the table and takes her hands. "Laura, babe, I'm so so sorry, i really am. I was a fool, a great fool, to let myself get carried away. I really regret it. You have no idea how much i regret loosing the it woman in my life that i have ever truly loved, Laura." Laura watches his eyes glisten. Her own eyes water. "I'm yours if you'll have me." He says, choking back tears.
Laura begins to cry. She stands up, walks around the table to Michael, and sits in his laps. "I'll have you," she whispers, and without another word, they kiss like nothing had ever happened between them.
