Second World
Synopsis: George Young used to play Dream World, the world's most popular VRMMO...until he was betrayed by his own guild member. He was just a less-than-mediocre player, but he held valuable items. Players from all over came and PKed him for those precious items, and eventually, he lost everything. He's now a miserable old bum, living a stale day, one after another, unenthused with the life around him. But one day, he stumbles into a Youtube video where a strange man claims to have made the greatest VRMMO ever: Second World. Reluctant, he decides to try this new game. Upon entering the game, he discovers that there are many things that set it apart from the VRMMOs he's played. While many players find it incredibly boring after their first day of playing, he remains determined. And so, headstrong, he plays through this strange, new game. The question now remains: Will George redeem himself in this 'Second World'? But more importantly: What kind of journey will this 'Second World' take him on? A seemingly chance encounter with an ancient machine and an assassination attempt threaten to disrupt Veil’s education at the premier mage academy of Ithalaan. The bombings and terrorist actions that follow throw the entire region into chaos and draw him inexorably deeper into a mystery involving cults, gods, and ancient mysterious races. These events threaten Veil’s carefully crafted plans, but there are few limits on his ambition. He is willing to do whatever it takes to advance his schemes to become a Magus, including pursuing the illegal discipline of soul magic. While Veil isn’t a powerful mage yet, his spell wrought guns and illicit abilities will help even the playing field. The need to face down his enemies and fulfill his ambitions will send him desperately searching from Forerunner ruins in the Great Northern Forest to ancient abyssal cities within the depths of the planet. _________________________________________________________________ The book is primarily fantasy with a steampunk background. Science fiction elements won't be introduced for quite some time. I currently update my work at a rate of one chapter per week. I'm also in the process of editing chapters 1 - 7, changing the format to make it more readable, and introducing more show and less tell. The reworked chapters will have (edited) after the title. The Virtual Apocalypse
For twenty years Terra suffered endless torment, death infiltrated every nook and cranny of the once beautiful planet. Under the tyranny of a mad king, the Southern Continent declared war on all who opposed its treachery; leaving in its wake, two decades of blood shed. Under the threat of extinction, man was compelled to make advancements in technology, several research units and groups were commissioned. Included in the most vital research programmes was one of the earliest programmes to be commissioned, the Personality and Neural Enchancement Programme (PNE). The programme promised heightened sensory and intellectual abilities, it was a race against time to vindicate mankind. Pain, an orphaned baby on the brink of death, obtained salvation in the PNE programme. However, before the programme was shut down, the lead researcher, Dr. Dante Bell mysteriously disappeared along with Pain. 17 years later, Pain and Dr. Bell make their majestic appearance, albeit under new identities, leading to a chain of events that will forever change the course of mankind's destiny!
