《Lombardi - Finn Shelby》Still Why Am I Here?

I was at the betting shop with all the girls whilst the boys were out and Esme kept complaining.
"It's not fair, they're off drinking and shooting rifles as we sit here." Esme complained sitting down whilst Lizzy was writing, she had become the secretary here so now we have to deal with her.
Polly soon came in and unlocked the bard door.
"The men are down there like lords." Esme said still angry, I didn't really know the problem, I didn't care.
"Esme, just. Get on with it." Polly groaned, something was up with her. Maybe she just drank too much.
I watched Esme sniff up the snow and I frowned.
"Should you be taking that?" I asked concerned and Esme gave me a death stare.
"Fuck off." she snapped at me, so I just surrendered, she rarely snaps at me.
Polly was over at the vault trying to remember the combination when Lizzy told her.
"How do you know?" I asked her.
"Tommy talks in his sleep." Esme responded. I giggled terribly and Lizzy told her to shut up, it was a good one though.
Polly tried to open the vault but failed so Lizzy went over and opened it. Was Polly drunk?
Then Lizzy told us how she's sleeping with Tommy and I made a face. Was it really any of our business? She must be full of herself and no one asked.
More women who worked here walked through the door chattering and Esme started ranting again.
A while later Holy Linda came in with a basket. She kept talking and it gave me a head ache, It really wasn't my day today especially with her mouth running. I know the others couldn't be arsed to hear it too.
"And before you ladies decide to find me so amusing, I have a message for you." Linda schemed.

"Oh God no Linda, I've been to church already, have you?" Polly asked.
"Not a message from God, Polly. It's from Jessie Eden." I've never heard of her before, who was she?
"Who's Jessie Eden?" I asked.
"She's the lady shop steward at the Lucas Factory in Spark hill." Linda replied.
"She's bringing all of the female workers in the spot-welding and wire-cutting shops out on a strike for the day. In protest at being made to work on a holy day." Linda announced. "Lower pay for female workers." Linda listed.
"All oppressed female workers are welcome." Linda said convincing everyone.
"Those bastards down there shooting deer. Me five months gone, sat here like a pudding." Esme scolded.
"Only one lavatory between the lot of us." Lizzy added. I listened to all the men outside telling us that it was 9:00 o'clock. I really just couldn't be bothered, I was tired as hell.
"Fuck it." Polly whispered. "I'm not I'm not in the mood today, lets go to the Bull Ring." Polly said to the group.
"Hallelujah!" Esme shouted.
I decided not to go though. I simply couldn't be bothered. So I just slept in the chair I was sat in.
—
I was now sat agin in the servants quarter listening to the boys conversation.
"This isn't a joke." Michael said walking to John.
"He'll fucking shoot you man, are you sure the kids yours?" John asked. Wait what? Michael's having a kid?
"I wish I hadn't told you." Michael groaned sighing. Arthur then started talking about marriage is like beautiful flowers.
"Is he joking?" Michael asked all of us.
"Oh, it's hard to tell these days." John replied.
"Do you love the woman?" Arthur then asked. I looked at Michael for an answer but he replied with "fucking what?" And it made me confused.

Was that a yes or a no? I couldn't tell?
You also may be thinking why am I here? Well I have no answer to why.
We walked through to Tommy's office and Arthur came in but once he saw the new guy he walked back out.
"Shalom." the man said and Arthur finally stayed.
"Arthur shalom." he repeated.
"Alfie." Arthur greeted. Who is this guy? How did Arthur know him?
"I owe you a little something, don't I? I do. Come on." the Jewish man said to Arthur and I watched them.
Alfie sat down telling Arthur to and Alfie gave him an apology. He then started talking about Arthur letting Jesus in his life. Arthur slowly became angry and gripped onto an ashtray.
Alfie then applauded Tommy and told him to keep Arthur.
I have no idea.
Tommy started to tell us a plan and I became more confused as to why I'm here.
"Tommy why am I 'ere then?" I asked him.
"It's a surprise." Tommy said.
"Really?" I asked with an unbothered look.
—
We all got out of the car in front of a large house and Tommy told us that the Russians were crazy people, I'm not surprised, he lit is cigarette and exhaled the smoke.
"Today they're going to test us." Tommy said as we started walking.
"Still why the hell am I here?" I said wondering what the surprise was.
People started at us as we walked by and the pretty woman from the wedding was there. Her and Thomas spoke whilst I watched the Russians behind us who were stood in a line staring at us.
We casually followed the girl inside.
Tommy spoke about tattoos and what they meant and told them they had to strip.
"Can I go?" I said turning around.
"It won't take long. Just turn around." Tommy told me.
It won't take long! Bull crap.
I glared at Thomas who was watching the Russian girl.
Inappropriate things happened so I just sung in my head.
Lalala when can I leave I'm dying here!
"It is traditional to seal the successful examination." Tatiana said.
"Am I allowed to sleep whilst that happens?" I asked everyone with my head turned away still.
"Sure Rose, but you still have that surprise." Tommy said.
"What?" I asked for the 50th time today.
"Wait Rose." Tommy said before talking to the boys and ignoring my questions.
Whilst everyone was downstairs I was in a bedroom waiting for this special surprise.
The door knocked, they were very soft knocks as well, a few times and I strolled over to open it.
I opened the door but quickly closed it again slamming it in front of the person, outside the door was someone who I had thought was dead, dead and passed.
I reopened the door and let them in. I stood frozen at the person in front of me, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion, how did they survive?
"Hi, I didn't really expect to see you like this." They told me. I didn't answer back I was speechless.
How?
—
Me and the guys left the house today, I was angry. Confused. Speechless.
The guys were taking a piss and I was sitting in the car, thoughts still crossing my mind. Arthur got in and they spoke with Tommy until he started driving.
I need a break.

Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

Daily life of a cultivation judge
Tired of those cultivators who think it is righteous to eliminate a sect or clan root and stem all in the name of revenge and avoiding future troubles, fights over treasures that end up destroying cities with no consequence whatsoever to the culprit, these psychos whose aim for the peak always involves a trail of carnage and bloodshed in its wake for some reason. Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
