Hiccup flew west as fast as he could until he reached a cluster of sea stacks. He slowed down to a hover and scanned the staks for his friend. Finding him, he dove down and landed on the stack next to the sleeping form of Toothless. He then nudged him in an effort to wake him up.

Hiccup smiled and nudged him again. Toothless grumbled. Hiccup purred and laid his head on his friends back. Toothless smiled and purred. They then fell into a quiet dreamless sleep.

When dawn came, Toothless was the first to rise. He walked to the edge of the sea stack and spread his wings to take off and get some food. He was about to leap off when he felt the breeze hit his tail in an odd way. Realization came to him as he turned to look at his tail. His left tailfin was missing.

He turned around and curled up around the sleeping human. Gothi would come for them when it was time. He closed his eyes and let his thoughts drift. He remembered what happened in the arena.
