I keep turning over new leaves, and spoiling them, as I used to spoil my copybooks; and I make so many beginnings there never will be an end.
- Louisa May Alcott
The beginning of Vampirism
The world keeps spinning around in circles, each day is a beginning of new change. Nothing is certain. Nothing is impossible. Two sides of a coin, as we say. There are miracles and there are curses. Ghost and gods. Demons and angel. Humans can be ignorant , they can be naive,or just plain dumb cause they think that they are on top of the food chain but are they? Are we really as mighty as we think we are. Some of us are strong, but not all of us. And even the strongest fighter loses some day for sure. Cause games and life are never fair, they are played in ways that just leads to an abyss of failure. Cause someone has to lose for the other to win. Or in better words , all of us have to loose for one to win. A winner is of no value without a loser and the future is always something that would torn the people in more ways than one.
There are creatures, that exist and hide. If you live in a city and don’t see lions daily doesn’t mean that lion will stop existing, in the same way, just because we cant see them, doesn’t mean they don’t exist. No one ever thought that a small non-visible virus would shut down the world, take lives upon lives life flies falling dead. But it did. In a blink of an eye, we were shut in our own houses fighting from something that would kill us without any weapons or mind. Just a deep breath near it and once it is in you, you’ll soon be dead. And even though humans should have taken this hint seriously , they didn’t , that would change their destiny ,neither would it keep them safe nor would it lead to a brighter future.
If human body is a miracle then there are things more deeper and complex than that too. Just like how there is earth and then there is galaxy and blackhole. There are curses dressed as blessing. Coldness wrapped in warm fur. It is believed that humans evolved from monkeys , then why did it stop ? did we stopped evolving? Is human body the last stage of change? No? there is a never last stage of change, neither last form of evolution. There is always something new ,something better.
Human that lived in the far northen centre of the world, A cold Curse in disguise of A beautiful iceland that just had a powdery white ice to call it's own. No vegetation and no sand for growth. They learned to adapt, everyone wasn’t strong enough to survive, but those who did just became more stronger. Vegetables and grains were impossible to grow and never there to begin with whatever they managed to collect wasn't enough for giving warmth , or giving them energy. So they opted for hunting animals , but in place as cold and deserted as these, Even animals were found far and less in between. Few years passed away easily but then the shortage of animal became more apparent. Slowly the animals became too hard to find. Survival wasn’t easy and nothing could be wasted . so people stored everything, the meat, the organs, the fur and even blood. Everyone wasn’t able to survive. animal blood was consumed in the begning , but it wasn’t of much use, due to so much difference in the constitutes of blood, , Animal blood was a lot different than human blood, it was harder to digest and gave less nutrients . it wasn’t beneficial as the energy it gave was lesser than the energy used in digesting it, until humans were able to figure out that it wasn’t any good, it was already too late. Some died due to hunger but more died due to not being able to adapt.

These places were cruel, and nothing can be wasted. Not even dead humans itself, so those who survived, ate and drank from those corpes and to their surprise, they got enough energy to survive the worst. ,they learned a new way to fill their hunger, to keep their body warm from inside. Cold always preserves, so these people stayed young longer, and as time changed , they changed too, they evolved into their better versions. They weren’t immortal, but they could live for hundreds of years without a wrinkle on their pale white skins.
When the body is faced with extreme cold, it tries to keep it's vital organs warm enough to work. And so all the heat is transferred to the main organs and our hands and legs are the first that go numb due to cold. The people got habitual and slowly adapted in ways that their body warmth was just limited to their vital organs. Due to extreme lack of warmth , cells die and tissue hardens. So their hands and legs were frozen in such a way that their skin was like a frozen stone that got stronger with time.
And slowly, step by step , day by day , Humans evolved into Something that was stronger and colder. Brutal but beautiful. A Vampire.
____________
The Vampires soon found shortage in food in their iceland. So they decided to travel and find some more food source. There were only five of them left . 2 women and 3 men. They travelled through places and found out that humans weren't like them, but they were smart enough to hide and act. They learned the world was so much more than they had seen.
Pretending to be same as them and hunting in the dark.
They kept moving and travelling until they reached Egypt. They settled in Egypt after getting attracted by the magical powers that the Egyptian people had. And so they learned. Magic that would make them more powerful than anyone.
Magic to begin with was something that needed a lot of concentration and patience. It wasn't just something that everyone could do. There are two types of magic the white and black. Magical powers that were a gift from good gods were considered as white magic. It could be attained by pleasing the diety with offering and hardwork. The right amount of dedication and lots of patience. The white magic was like a blessing that made you a little more special but to perform magic and control things the person has to practice a lot. Spells would have to chanted in the right manner with right words in a particular way to work things around. This magic worked on the things created by god. It protected the carrier of gods blessing and his loved ones. It helped in different aspects of controlling the nature . The earth, air , water and fire. This led to controlling the things related to these elements like plants ,animals and even humans. But as the world developed the humans moved away from nature and their contact with it was damaged . It got harder to control the humans as they were so far away from nature and not really a part of it anymore.
The vampires first learned and practiced the white magic. Decades after decades but they realized sooner that it was not enough. Having one kind of magic was just not enough. One side of coin is not enough and so they started digging about the black magic. Magic magic can be the only way of completely controlling the humans and thus controlling everything. Black magic is basically a curse. A deal with devil . The person asking for the black magic has to offer himself as a portal to this world . The dark spirit and evil powers can't enter God's realm that easily , they need help and these vampires were that help . But the problem was that blessed person could never become a portal for evil . It was next to impossible to convince the devil when you yourself are blessed by his enemy and impossible to be a portal for evil spirits when you are protected by god himself.

So the Vampires that were the carrier of white magic just waited for decades until new Vampires could be born and maybe they would be able to learn black magic. And that's what happened the vampires slowly increased their powers and numbers. With both black and white magic carriers at their side the Vampires kept getting stronger. Until now they didn't have a leader or superior. Indeed the 5 older vampires were more powerful and respected but there were five of them and they controlled everything smoothly without any problems .
The turning point in the story came when a sudden fight erupted among them. It was one against four. And in the end something happened that never happened before, they decided to banish and kill their own. But somehow the Vampire was able to escape from his death with a promise to become more powerful than anyone else. And powerful he became. The first Vampire king. The most powerful of them , the carrier of both Good and bad magic , the only one who could control even Vampires.
_________
The beginning of Vampire King's existence
When Horus ,that was his name. The rebel Vampire elder . He ran away from Egypt, he ran away with a promise to come back stronger.
He had a hunch where he needed to be , he had seen somethings that the four other head Vampires had missed. He knew the existence of a different kind of magic. Which was neither black nor white. It was grey.
It was magic that he needed. It lead him to Greece. It wasn't easy to just learn the magic or find the right people. Not to mention travel alone for the first time with nothing but just his clothes. But he managed.
And it was all worth it.
Hecate (Hekate) was a goddess of Greek mythology capable of both good and evil. She was associated with witchcraft, magic, the Moon, doorways, and creatures of the night like hell-hounds and ghosts. Often depicted carrying a torch to remind of her connection with the night, in sculpture has three faces for her role as the goddess of boundaries and the guardian of crossroads.
From the 5th century BCE, the goddess is associated with the darker side of the human experience, that is , witchcraft, magic, the Moon, dreams, fierce hounds and creatures which roam the darkness of night. She outlandish in her infernal aspects, she is more at home on the fringes than in the centre of polytheism. Intrinsically ambivalent and polymorphous, she straddles conventional boundaries and eludes definition
Zeus, Cronus' son, honoured [
Hecate above all others: he gave her splendid gifts - to have a share of the earth and of the barren sea, and from the starry sky as well she has a share in honour, and is honoured most of all by the immortal gods. For even now, whenever any human on the earth seeks propitiation by performing fine sacrifices according to custom, he invokes Hecate; and much honor very easily stays with that man whose prayers the goddess accepts with gladness, and she bestows happiness upon him.
So he prayed and prayed and prayed. Until she gave him his happiness. She was a link between gods and the dark world and her powers were what he needed. It wasn't as easy as it looked to please her.
Horus spent , 2 decades in worshiping her in all the ways that people knew.
The goddess had unusual rituals performed in her honour in the , which include the offerings of food - given at crossroads, road junctions, and any other sort of boundary or threshold - known as 'the supper of Hecate'. These took the form of small cakes of eggs, cheese, bread, and dog meat, which were lit with miniature torches or, alternatively, a dish of red mullet, which was usually prohibited from offerings to the other gods. Hecate was also offered the sacrifice of dogs, especially puppies. The dog connection may be the fact that dogs were known to eat the dead if left unburied; they also howl at the moon, of course. A further canine connection may be with the god who guided souls to the underworld, and the Greek three-headed hound of , Cerberus, may be an earlier form of Hecate.
Horus was sure he had killed more puppies in 2 decades than he killed humans . And he almost killed one human every day.
The offerings to the goddess were made each month during the night of a new moon. The goddess was especially appealed to by sorceresses for aid in their magic and spells and appears on surviving examples of curse .
Hecate supported or is a protective goddess of warriors, athletes, hunters, horsemen, herdsmen, shepherds, fishermen, and children. Her companions are the (Erinyes), the winged creatures who punished wrong-doing, and her children are the Empusae, female demons partial to seducing travellers. She wasn't worshipped to get dark powers.
She was worshipped to ward them off cause she had the control to. She had the powers to.
She wasn't ready to Bless Horus with those powers that he wanted. But his resistance and hard work , dedication at last melted her . And he was the only one who ever was blessed with both Dark and white magic by the Goddess Hecate herself.

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.
