《Between Two Worlds (Aizawa x Reader)》Chapter Forty-three: Security

"What was 'what' all about?" I asked, completely lost.
Aizawa furrowed his eyebrows.
"What did that man want?" he asked.
I was totally confused at this point.
"I'm not sure what you're talking about. I wasn't talking to anyone." I said, starting to become worried.
But I wasn't the only one.
"I saw you talking to him right when I walked outside." he said. He then paused, "What's the last thing you remember?" Even though his voice was patient, I could tell he was on edge.
I tried to think but everything I thought of came back fuzzy. It was like someone hit me in the head. I wasn't sure if it was because I spaced out from being so tired after today, or if I was missing something entirely. Either way, I had nothing.
"We came outside, you put me down, and said you were going to text a chauffeur." I said, "Next thing I know, you're still here."
Aizawa's eyes narrowed.
"You didn't see me go back into the school?" he asked.
My heart started to race.
What the fuck is happening?
"...No." I said quietly.
Immediately, he pulled me closer to the school, before running past the gate, looking around for a moment, before coming back to lock the gate, and taking out his phone.
"Shota, what's going on?" I asked him, becoming more frightened by the minute as I watched him wait for someone to pick up as he paced.
"Nemuri, it's Aizawa. We've been compromised...I believe Doe's memory has just been wiped. I need every hero in the area to be on the look out for a male in his late 30's, grey hair, glasses, with a pink scarf, and beige clothes. I don't know what he asked or how much he knows, but we need to find him fast. Last we saw, he was headed west from the main entrance...Sounds like a plan. We'll be on our way. Thank you."
He hung up and came close to me, kneeling slightly as put his hands on my shoulders. I started to panic as tears started to form.
"What's going on? Did I do something wrong?" I asked, trying not to cry, thinking I had royally fucked up just now.
Aizawa shook his head.

"No. The fault is mine. I shouldn't have left you alone. You are my responsibility, and therefore I'm to blame for this mishap." he said, taking my face in his hands as he wiped away the tears with his thumbs.
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." I said in between panicked breaths, breaking down into his arms, "I don't remember. I'm sorry I don't."
He held me close as I sobbed into his chest. He tried his best to console me as I trembled and cried.
'How could this have happened?' I thought, 'Did I really let my guard down and screw this up for everyone?'
"Shouldn't you go after him?" I asked, my breathing still uneven.
"I need to keep you safe, and I can't do that if I run off to go catch him. I've left you unattended once already, and I'm not about to make that same mistake twice. The other pros need to take it from here. For now, we need to go to security and look over the footage. See if he was someone you recognized." he said, "How fast can you walk?"
As much as I hated to feel like such a damsel in distress, I was a physical mess from the crying, hyperventilating, and sore limbs. I wasn't entirely sure how far my body would allow me to take it.
"Not very..." I stopped.
I felt my mind go blank in a white haze. Everything I thought came back fuzzy. I looked down at myself, clueless as to why I was shaking and crying.
I looked up at the sky. The colors changed so quickly from the last I saw them. What were once warm colors in the remaining clouds were starting to fade into something darker.
'Did the chauffeur not get here yet? Why is my body all tingly and numb? Why do my lungs ache? Was I hyperventilating just now? Why?' My thoughts were so jumbled.
"Doe?" I heard Aizawa ask, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"...What's going on? Why is it so dark out?" I asked.
"Shit." said Aizawa under his breath, who then picked me up and ran with me in his arms back into the building.
"What the Hell?!" I screamed, "Why are we going back in? We just got out!" I asked, completely lost by what was transpiring.

Aizawa didn't answer as he continued to run, which only made me worried. What the fuck was going on?
We made it to an office, where Aizawa put me down and began to unlock the doors.
"Are you going to tell me what's going on?" I asked, trying to make sense of everything that was happening.
"Tell you? No." he said, as the doors clicked, "Show you? Yes." he grabbed my hand and lead me to a computer.
After turning it on, he furiously typed away and brought up what looked to be security footage. As he scrolled through the footage, he brought up the display from the gate. He motioned for me to watch as I peered over to the screen.
Onscreen, I saw Aizawa put me down, which I remembered, but after a moment or two, I saw him run back inside. I furrowed my eyebrows.
'I don't remember that happening.' I thought, 'I don't understand...'
I continued to watch as a man walked right up behind me on camera. Though there was no audio, I could tell I looked uneasy and was backing away. But why?
"Do you recognize that man?" Aizawa asked.
I looked closer. The footage wasn't exactly in HD, but it was good enough for me to get the details. After a minute of looking closer at the man, it clicked.
My blood ran cold.
"Yeah," I said, my voice shaking, "That's Kagero Okuta."
Fuck. It all made sense now. Why I couldn't remember anything and why time seemed to skip and feel out of context.
"What do you know about him?" he asked me.
"He's a broker who workers for villains. His quirk gives those, whom he touches, amnesia for ten minutes. Five minutes before and after the touch, your memories are wiped." I said, feeling my hands ball into fists.
My fear started to change. Now I was becoming pissed off. If it weren't for the fact that I knew about him already ahead of time, that fucker would've wiped my memory and got away with it. Unfortunately, because the footage had no audio, I had no idea what he said, or asked, and I had no idea what I said in return. I would hope that past me was smart enough to not give away anything. I hoped even more that whatever he had planned would backfire.
Aizawa grabbed his phone again and dialed. Once someone picked up, he spoke.
"...We have a name and profile. Kagero Okuta. Works for villains. You heard of him?...I see. I'll send a copy of the footage to you so you know who to identify. Make sure you find him, but whatever you do, don't let him touch you or anyone else. His quirk erases memory for ten minutes...Yes...Wouldn't be a bad idea. Have patrol stationed nearby, but have them stay hidden. I'll take care of the rest...Got it. Thanks."
He hung up.
"Who were you calling just now?" I asked.
"Hizashi. His high profile leads him to know just about everyone. Unfortunately, he hasn't heard of Kagero Okuta, but with your knowledge, it'll make things easier. And his loud mouth tendencies, while annoying, can be useful in situations like this. It'll only be a matter of time before everyone knows about what happened and who Kagero Okuta is." he said, putting his phone into his pocket.
"You said you'd 'take care of the rest'. What did you mean?" I asked.
Aizawa started to make copies of the security footage and attached them in an email. To who, I wouldn't know seeing as it was in Japanese. But I'm assuming it was to Hizashi and the police.
"It means for the night, I'm watching over you. There'll be people patrolling the area for awhile. If they see or get wind of anything, they'll alert me." he said, before sending it and standing up, "But we need to leave now before it gets too late."
"Wouldn't villains know where you live and attack us there?" I asked.
He chuckled.
"I'm not exactly well known by many, and the ones I do know and run into aren't inclined to attack a pro on their own turf. We should be fine. Like I said," he raised my chin up with his fingers, brushing it lightly with his thumb, "we'll have patrol monitoring all activities. No one is going to hurt you. I'll see to that."
