《Nick Wilde X Reader | A New Partner》Anticipation

The sun fell lower in the sky until it finally sunk behind the horizon, illuminating the atmosphere with scarlet hues. As dusk faded to night, you and Nick prepared for the dropoff.
However, unbeknownst to you, a suspicious bunny sat in the distance, watching Nick's van. Waiting for you both to show.
'These two are my only leads, and I know they're hiding something...' Judy thought, 'I'll wait all night if I have to...'
Inside the apartment, you grabbed a flashlight and tucked it into your hoodie pocket. Looking down at yourself, you noticed this was the same hoodie you wore the day you met Nick... You turned and watched him as he slipped his black jacket on, extending his arm through the sleeve and pulling it over his shoulder.
Apprehension weighed on you, causing tension in your neck. Zootopia never actually felt dangerous, but after the car chase a week ago and now this, well, things have certainly changed.
The news reports that you had watched earlier today replayed in your mind. There was another commotion this afternoon in Savannah Central with a predator going insane. A few deers had been injured in their wake.
"Almost ready?" Nick asked as he tugged on his collar to straighten it.
"As I'll ever be," you said, weakly.
"Hey," You lifted your head toward Nick as he stepped closer, "I'll keep you safe."
Your eyes followed his arm as he pulled an object out of his right jeans pocket: A compact tranquilizer. He flourished it, silhouetted by the lights behind him.
"This will take down a wolf in 5 seconds, an elephant: 10," He said in a low voice as he popped a magazine with darts into it and pulled the slide back. A click echoed as the tranquilizer gun loaded. He clicked the safety, twirled it, and slipped it back into his right pocket.

Then a glint of light caught your eyes as he flicked a knife out of his other pocket. The large blade reflected your intent gaze as he rotated it back and forth. With the click of a button, the knife retracted and he put it away.
"Didn't realize you were armed to the teeth," you said cheekily. It was a little stressful to see him brandish weapons, but the way he moved showed restraint and concentration. And, of course, you also trusted him.
"Well, I've got someone to protect now," he winked at you.
With a scoff, you stepped forward and laid your forehead on his chest to hide your smile, "Two weeks ago I thought you were just a popsicle hustler. How'd we get here?" You laughed.
"Chasing the dragon, I suppose," Nick whispered.
You lifted your head back up and gazed into his thoughtful green eyes, "As long as we don't become the next Bonnie and Clyde, I'm happy."
The fox grabbed his keys and you both headed out the door.

Doctored Chance: The Unpleasant Preceding of "Pajama Boy" and What Drove Him to Murder
I, Mick Chadwick, regret to inform my readers that this memoir contains nothing but the truth, which in the case of Tobias MacClain, most ridiculed as Pajama Boy, is far from pleasant. If you seek to relate to a hero more than to aspire to them and have the stomach for unpleasant things such as a hero left for dead, villainous scars, bomb threats, and murderous intent, then look no further. All of these gruesome things and more await from my research, and though I do not wish them on any man or woman, I cannot bear this burden on my own much longer. In the words of Tobias MacClain himself, "Sometimes, a villainous act can cause the greatest good." I hope that all my villainous acts of sneaking, blackmailing, diary-reading, and grave-digging, among others, will be redeemed as I present this complete and truthful memoir to the world, and with any luck, open eyes to the truth of what we call "villainy". Doctored Chance: The Unpleasant Preceding of "Pajama Boy" and What Drove Him to Murder ********* MATURE FILTER IS FOR:- violence- graphic imagery (blood, burns, fairly dark headspaces)- cartoon depiction of burn scars for visual aid Despite graphics, Mick Chadwick's writing keeps Mr. MacClain's terrible tale light somehow. This is foremostly a comedy.
