《Nick Wilde X Reader | A New Partner》Meadowlands

You leaned on the console with your head against Nick's shoulder as he drove. Your paw rested on his leg as you contently watched the buildings of TundraTown grow sparser and sparser. Soon you passed under the climate wall and out into somewhere new.
The cold colors and snow were replaced with vibrant meadows. A huge expanse of rolling green hills under a blue sky with puffy clouds spread out in front of the van. Old roads on the side trailed away to white cottages that dotted the landscape.
"Wow... why don't I come here more often?" You whispered.
The van rose and fell with the angle of the road that winded farther into the Meadowlands. After a fair distance, Nick slowed down and turned off onto a dirt road. The path was a little bumpy, but eventually, he found a nice open spot and parked the van.
You stretched as you both hopped out. This was so familiar now, you had a hard time imagining life not going places with Nick like this.
You watched as he opened the back doors and pulled out a huge blanket. He grabbed a picnic basket as well and tilted his head for you to follow him.
The sun kept you warm as a breeze whipped over the moorland, rippling the wildflowers around you and tossing your fur.
Once Nick had found a nice spot, he put down the basket and unfurled the blanket over the grass. He turned back to you.
He was wearing a classic combo; his green tropical shirt and brown pants. His relaxed eyes looked down at you with a grin as his paws found their way to your waist.
The feeling of his warm and firm grip sent a shiver down your back as you instinctively reached your paws up and rested them on his shoulders.

Your heart rate increased as you felt your bodies move closer together. You closed your eyes slowly as he did too. You could sense him getting closer and closer until finally, your lips connected.
His kiss was firm but not pushy, his lips were soft but masculine. You inhaled, feeling your muscles relax as you ran a paw along his neck.
Then, he pulled back.
He stepped to the side and flopped onto the blanket on his back. He patted the spot next to him for you to sit so you joined him.
The blanket felt fleecy as you ran your paws along it. It also cushioned you as you sat down, but you could still make out that there was grass underneath it.
Mimicking Nick, you plopped backward next to him.
Silence twirled in the breeze around you both. You were content to lie here with him and waste the day away.
"That cloud looks like a bird," Nick said quietly, pointing at a thin cloud high in the atmosphere.
You searched around for your own cloud, "That one looks like a duck," you said, pointing at a large puffy cloud next to it.
Your cloud was moving much faster than his and soon overlapped it, "Ope, they're in love," you said, dropping your arm back down.
Nick shifted and turned to face you, leaning on his elbow, "Ah, it's that easy, huh?"
You turned your head to look at him, "It's as easy as 'C'mon, Y/N, walk with me,'" you called back to some of his first words to you.
Nick scoffed, rolling his eyes, "Well, you did walk with me."
"Yeah, I did. But really, how did you know my name?"
"I was standing there when you said goodbye to your co-worker before the ferret walked up."

"Mhm, sure. Stalker," you reached forward and booped him on the nose.
He gently swatted your paw away, "Hey, I saved you from that ferret, though!"
You raised a paw to your forehead dramatically, "Oh poor me, in distress, a ferret tried to sell me fake luxury watches..."
Nick watched, partly amused, "Are you done now?" He asked in a deadpan tone.
You lifted your second paw up to your head as you continued, "Now I get to work with a criminal re-selling popsicles and roses and moving catnip along the black market, what a wooorld..."
"You know you love it," Nick said cheekily as he reached out and pulled you closer to him.
You laughed, "You got me..."
Exhaling, you relaxed out as you cuddled next to him on the blanket.
The rest of the day was spent enjoying each other's company. Like, real quality time. You both chatted for a while longer and then had snacks from the basket. Your shadows grew longer as the sun traveled across the sky.
At one point you made Nick close his eyes as you hopped up and ran around the picnic area, picking the prettiest wildflowers you could find. There were red, orange, yellow, and blue ones that you bunched up and gave to him.
Another time, he pulled out the deck of cards he had used the other night and showed you a couple of magic tricks, but didn't reveal how they were done.
After some more excitement, you laid down with your head on his stomach and relaxed for a while.
"The sun's about to set..." came his low voice after a while.
You tensed to pull yourself back up. Nick sat up as well and you scooted closer to him. You leaned against him as you watched the sky shift to amber, then fiery oranges and reds. The highest clouds turned pink as the sun dipped below the horizon, dousing the meadow in twilight.

Tales from the Triverse
Tales from the Triverse is part detective drama, part fantasy adventure and part space opera. I’m influenced by the likes of Iain M Banks, Isaac Asimov and ND Stevenson and work including The Wire and Gotham Central. It begins with an incident two hundred years ago which crashed three parallel universes together. Portals open up in 18th century London, sending England down a very different path. We pick up events in the 1970s, with the Metropolitan Police having established a new department to handle portal-related criminal activity. The story is about intolerance, immigration, multiculturalism and power. It’s about what happens when incompatible viewpoints are weaponised to seed discontent, and the efforts of some to create a fairer world. In the tradition of the best science fiction, fantasy and crime fiction, I’m using the setting to examine themes that matter to me in the real world. Who is it for?If you like science fiction or fantasy, or a mix of both, this is for you. It’s my first foray into crime fiction, but I hope if you’re a fan that you’ll enjoy yourself - especially if you’re looking for something a bit different. I write fiction that is optimistic, progressive and empathetic. Bad things can happen to good people in the stories, but the overall arc tends to be hopeful. Note that if it were a movie, Tales from the Triverse would be a 15 certificate in the UK.
