《Pokémon Sun & Moon: Emethyst's Journey》Chapter 39

I stepped out of the woods, and headed back to the dance hall. I could hardly believe what just happened. None of it felt real. Froslass floated by my side, and I clutched the Z Crystal in my hand and held it close to my mom's mega stone. None of it felt real.
"There she is!" I heard a familiar female voice say, as I looked up and saw Mallow pointing over at me. I saw literally everyone running up to me. My dad, of course was up front.
"Oh my gosh, Emethyst! There you are! You've had me worried sick! Where have you been?!" My dad yelled at me.
"I almost reported you missing to Officer Jenny!" He growled at me.
I backed away slowly, for I wasn't expecting to get yelled at the way I just did. I was confused. I wasn't gone for very long, was I? "Easy with all of the questions, dad, it's not that big of a deal.." I said, hesitantly. How was I going to explain to him that I was with my mom?
"It is a VERY big deal," He said, putting emphasis on the word very. "What were you doing?" He looked around, and I guess he noticed that Haunter, or my secret for the moment, Gengar wasn't anywhere around. "Where's Haunter?" He asked as he looked around.
I smiled slyly. "Oh, I was having a Pokemon battle, and well, something happened..." I said, as I clutched the Z Crystal in my hand. "Haunter... Well, you see, he's no longer with me." I said, as I looked down at the ground.
"What?!" Ash exclaimed.
"No way.." Mallow said.
"I don't believe you, Emethyst..." Olivia said.
I could tell my secretive act was getting underneath my dad's skin. The look on his face was funny to me. "Emethyst, do you not know how serious this is? Who were you battling?" He asked.
I then let it all spill. "Don't worry about who I battled, Dad. But... I have someone I want you to see. Well, someone and something." I said, as I clutched the Z Crystal.
I turned around, and looked up. "Oh, Gengar! You can come down now, buddy!" I said, as I called up to him.
"Wait... GENGAR?!?! HAUNTER EVOLVED?!" My dad exclaimed, his eyes bugging out of his head.
Gengar floated down, and landed right by my side on his legs. "Gengar!" He exclaimed, as he jumped up and down.
Everyone's eyes were wide and mouths were gaped open.
"WHAT?!" Rotom Dex squealed, and then came over, and began examining him. "EMETHYST.... GENGAR IS SIX FEET TALL!!!! THAT'S A FULL FOOT AND AN INCH TALLER THAN THE AVERAGE GENGAR!!!!" He squealed, as he started taking pictures. "THIS DATA WILL NEVER EVER BE DELETED!"

I looked over at Gengar, and then back at my dad. Gengar towered over him just slightly, Gengar was maybe an inch or two taller. My dad began shaking, as he looked up at him just slightly.
"That's not all." I said, as I took my hand that had the Z Crystal in it and held it out. "I also got this." I opened my hand to reveal the purple Z Crystal.
Olivia immediately jumped in front of my dad as soon as she saw it. "No way!! A Z Crystal?!" She exclaimed. My dad just stood there behind her; his mouth open just slightly as I could tell he couldn't believe it.
"That's so awesome, Emethyst!!!" I heard Ash exclaim. "You can use Z Moves, now! He called out, excitedly.
"Incredible." Kiawe said. "You get to experience Alola the right way." He said, smiling.
Lillie then walked up. "Wow, a Ghostium Z!" She exclaimed. Everyone then crowded around me to look at it. "I've read about them! Never actually seen a real one in person before." She added, as she examined it in my palm.
I felt my cheeks heat up. "Well, I can't exactly use Z Moves yet," I said. "I have to get a Z Ring first." I didn't exactly know how I was going to do that, but I guess it would be determined.
Without saying anything, my dad came over to me and hugged me tight. "Wow Emethyst, I'm speechless. I'm so proud of you." He said, warmly.
I smiled in response and hugged him back, Z Crystal still in hand. Tonight didn't feel real. It still felt like I was still in this dream that I didn't want to wake up from. I couldn't believe what was happening.
"Alright, well I'd say let's go enjoy the rest of the dance, now that we know Emethyst is safe. What do you all say?" Olivia said.
I was one hundred percent down for that. I didn't care what I looked like; I wanted to dance and have a good time now.
"Yes, please!" Everyone said at once, including myself. I was genuinely happy now. I got the closure I needed, and I could continue on with my new life in Alola. I couldn't wait to see what these days brought to me.
Everyone began walking back to the dance hall, and my dad stopped me by putting his hand on my shoulder. "What is it, dad?" I asked.
My dad crossed his arms over each other. "So, who did you battle?" He asked. He didn't seem angry anymore.
I looked off to the side. "Um.. would you believe me if I told you I battled mom?" I said, and allowed a small smile. I was expecting a totally different reaction than what I got.

"I kind of had a hunch it was something like that." He said, and smiled. He walked over closer to me and hugged me again. "I'm so proud of you." He said. "Do you want me to hold onto your Z Crystal for you so you don't lose it? I know you don't have any pockets in that dress." He said, warmly.
That actually did sound like a good idea. I didn't want to risk losing it at the dance. "Sure." I said, as I handed it to him. "Thanks Dad." I said, smiling.
"Anytime. Now go and have fun." He said, as I saw him slip the crystal into his lab coat pocket.
I smiled back at him. "I will." I said. Gengar and Froslass floated at my sides, and we walked up the steps and back into the dance venue. The familiar music and bass vibrated my insides. There were whole lot more people here now, and also Pokemon of all kinds.
Mallow then spotted me, and ran over to me. I was too dazed from earlier to notice she was all dressed up. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw her. She was in a kimono style dress, and she had her green hair down. I thought she looked stunning.
"Hey!" She exclaimed over the music, and smiled at me.
"Hey!" I exclaimed back, and looked at her outfit some more. "I love that outfit on you." I said, as I closed my eyes bashfully.
"Thanks. I got it last minute before the dance." She said. "That dress looks amazing on you as well," she said, her cheeks turning pink.
"Thanks." I said. "So, what's up? How are things?" I asked her, as we walked around a bit.
Mallow shrugged. "Eh, so so. Oh yeah," she mentioned. "Some woman was looking for you, earlier." She said.
I looked over at her, and raised my eyebrow in confusion. "Um, who?" I asked.
Mallow looked like she was either trying to remember her name or her appearance. "I don't know her name, but she had white hair and wore a gray tank top. I didn't really pay much attention. She didn't appear to know your name either, she only described you by appearance, and when she mentioned that you had a Haunter and a Froslass, I knew she was instantly talking about you." She said.
I felt my nose scrunch in response. "Well that's weird." I said. I looked around, and see if I could find anyone fitting that description, which I didn't. "Is she still here?" I asked.
Mallow shrugged. "I honestly don't know," she said. "I haven't seen her though. If I saw her, I could point her out to you." She said.
"Fair enough." I said, and shrugged for I brushed it off.
Suddenly, the loud music stopped. "Alright everyone, it's time for a slow dance with that first love in your life! I want to see and feel the love out there tonight!" The DJ belted over his microphone. The slow song then came on, which I recognized to be I Knew I Loved You by Savage Garden.
"Oh! My dad came!" Mallow exclaimed, as she looked behind me and ran to the entrance. I whirled around, and saw her run to a man that was a bit overweight, and had green hair just like she did. I looked around, and saw everyone slow dancing with their moms. I allowed a small smile at everyone, and I walked over to some chairs and sat down. Gengar and Froslass sat by me, as we watched everyone slow dance with their moms, and I saw Mallow slow dancing with her father. I sighed, as I tried not to cry.
I then looked over to the entrance, and saw my dad walk in. He walked over slowly to me, his lab coat swaying with every step. I looked around and pretended like I didn't see him. I then looked back, and he was now in front of me. He put his hand out, as if to help me up. "Can I have this dance?" He asked.
Tears welled in my eyes, as I took his hand. "What, did you think I was going to let you be the only one here without a slow dance partner?" He asked, as we made our way out to the floor.
"Oh, Dad.." I wailed, that same baby voice coming back out when I saw my mother again.
We found a decent spot where there wasn't alot of people, and my dad wrapped his arms around me and I did the same. I looked over my dad's shoulder, and saw Froslass and Gengar slow dancing with each other. I also saw other people's Pokemon dancing with each other. The moment I saw that, I started crying. My heart was broken and full of love at the same time.
My dad and I swayed to the music, as I closed my eyes and just got lost in the moment. "There's my little girl." He said, as he hugged me closer.
I laid my head onto the part of his chest where his lab coat was, and let my guard down for just a while. I could hear his heart beating in his chest. I smiled, for I felt loved in that raw moment.

People. Harmony. Dysfunction
[Hiatus]People are extraordinary. They are glorious, chaotic, imaginative, grim, all kinds of smart and driven. They are capable of living in harmony or incredible destruction. They can be both caring and loyal but vicious and self-centred. However, Olivia wished that the first year of her PhD didn't have to showcase quite so much of the melting pot. People. Harmony. Dysfunction. is a story that follows a research group through the drama and challenges life throws at them. It has an (unspecified) modern setting and focuses on the characters. I've tried to rate this pre-emptively, but unfortunately it might change as the story evolves.
