《Pokémon Sun & Moon: Emethyst's Journey》Chapter 44

After what felt like forever, we finally arrived home. After this long week; I was so relieved to see my Dad's house in my sight. I could finally wind down and spend time with my Pokemon. Mimikyu sat perched up on my right shoulder, and Gengar and Froslass were floating by my sides.
"Ugh, I'm exhausted." I said, as I yawned. "I might take a small nap." I said.
"If you sleep now; You won't sleep tonight, Emethyst. Try to stay awake, please." My dad said, kind of sternly as he always did.
I rolled my eyes. "Fine." I said. I guess I could drink a cup of coffee or tea or something. Mimikyu kept snuggling up to my face randomly, and I loved how much love it gave me randomly like this. It felt like it was trusting me more. I raised my right hand and put my hand on it. "Kyu!" It said, happily.
"Hey, why don't we have a battle?" Ash chimed in. "That'll help you stay awake." He said, happily. Pikachu sat perched on Ash's shoulder just as Mimikyu did mine. "Pika pika!" Pikachu exclaimed.
I shrugged. That didn't sound like a bad idea. Also, I could see how strong Gengar really was too, after all. I allowed a smile. "Sure, that does sound fun." I said. "You're on." I said, smiling at him daringly now.
My dad opened the door to the house, and held the door open for both of us. I walked in first, to see the familiar aquarium in the doorway. The air-conditioning felt amazing on my mildly sunburnt skin. I was relieved to be home after such a long week. I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight. Mimikyu jumped off of my shoulder, and took a look around. I also slipped off my sandals, and sat them by the front doorway.
Ash and I took our backpacks off at the same time.
"What do you think, Mimikyu? This is where I live." I said to it, as I set my backpack down on the floor.
"Hey now you two, where do your backpacks go?" My dad said sternly, as he stood by the loft. Mimikyu joined his side and looked straight at me. I thought it was kind of cute.
Ash looked over at him, with his backpack in hand. "Oh yeah, almost forgot." He said happily, and walked up the loft. I didn't say anything, and just picked mine up and walked up the loft right behind him.
"Kyu?! Kyu!!" I heard Mimikyu cry behind me. As soon as I got to the top of the loft; I saw it at the bottom of the steps below me, and it began to cry. The steps were a bit too steep for it to climb.
"Hang on, I'm coming." I said to it, as I began climbing down the stairs. But instead, Gengar walked over and picked Mimikyu up with one of his chubby, purple hands and sat it up by the steps. "Gengar!" Gengar exclaimed.
I took Mimikyu in my left arm. "Thanks, Gengar." I said to Gengar, as I scratched his head with my free hand. I still couldn't believe how big he was.

"That Mimikyu looks to have separation anxiety." My dad said, as he looked at me from the bottom of the loft next to Gengar.
I cuddled Mimikyu close. "Well, it's no wonder," I said, as I consoled it. "If my trainer abandoned me, I would too." I said. My mind then jumped back to that pathetic excuse of a trash Pokemon trainer. I was still so angry I didn't get to have my way with him. He would have been in the hospital when I got through with him. I would have loved to take rounds at his face like a Machop in fight training camp.
"Whoa, are you okay Emethyst?" My dad asked. It was then I realized I was looking straight at him this whole time. I'm still pretty upset that he got in my way.
"I wish you wouldn't have gotten in my way." I said, blankly, as I continued cuddling Mimikyu close to me.
"I saw the fist," my dad said. "You know I couldn't let you beat up a kid, Emethyst. Even though what he did wasn't very nice." He said, as he continued looking up at me.
"Still! Someone should teach that kid a lesson! You don't abandon your Pokemon!" Ash exclaimed, siding with me. "Pika, Pikachu!" Pikachu exclaimed right behind him.
Mimikyu burrowed itself in my arms more, and it began hugging my bicep with it's shadow-like arms that came out from underneath it's rag. They felt strange, like they could melt away at any moment. But, they were also warm.
"I will admit, I like this Mimikyu alot better. It's very calm compared to Team Rocket's." Ash said, as he petted it's back. "Speaking of which, I haven't seen those guys in a while." He mentioned, as he looked off to the side.
I shrugged. "Well, good riddance in my opinion. Who needs those weirdos? Maybe they finally learned their lesson." I said, as I got up and walked over to my bed with Mimikyu in my arms.
"Alright, I'm gonna get started on dinner." My dad said, as I heard his footsteps walk to the kitchen.
"Sounds good to me. Still want to battle, Emethyst?" Ash asked, as Pikachu jumped on his shoulder.
I nodded. "Yeah, give me just a minute though," I said. I wanted to rest for a bit and get situated before I did. "Let me unpack my stuff and I'll be out there." I said.
"Alright!" Ash exclaimed, as he climbed down the loft. "See you outside!" I heard the door open. "Wait for me, Ash!" I heard Rotom Dex exclaim, and then the door closed.
As soon as I was alone; I went over to my gastly evolution backpack. I unzipped the main compartment, and began unpacking everything. I pulled out the dress I wore at the dance, the heels, and my purple makeup bag. I folded the dress, and put it in the top drawer. I took my heels, and sat them on the side by my bed. Mimikyu was sitting on my bed, watching my every move. It's little eyes underneath the cloth kept going back and forth, tracking my every movement. I stopped what I was doing, and went over to it.

"You're so adorable." I said to it, and rubbed my thumb on what would be its face. I kind of felt like this Mimikyu was kind of like my new child in a way.
"Kyu!" It exclaimed, as it cuddled up to my hand.
I giggled, as I continued petting it. "Here, let me get everything situated, and I'll pet you as much as you want." I said to it.
"Kyu! Kyu!" Mimikyu exclaimed happily, and started jumping up and down on my bed.
I turned away, and went back over to my backpack. I looked inside, and at the bottom I saw the familiar CDs and tapes that I had again forgotten about. I still knew what I was going to do with them all. I looked back at the familar cardboard brown box that was still partially peaking out from behind my covers.
I picked up my backpack, and brought it over to the box. Before I sat down, I peered over the loft to make sure my dad was still preoccupied with making dinner, and he was. Froslass was helping him in the kitchen, just like she used to do with my mom. I then turned over to Gengar, and saw he was playing with Rockruff. I smiled at them all, and then sat down. I pulled the box out from underneath the bed, and opened it up. I took out the colorful tissue paper and I reached into my backpack. I pulled out all the tapes and CDs, and put them back into the box. I then took the photo of my mom and dad, and sat it on the top exactly how it was. I then covered it all back up with the tissue paper.
I folded the flaps back up. I looked around, and saw a black marker sitting on the dresser that Rotom normally slept on. I got up, and retrieved the black marker. I popped the cap off.
RETURN TO SENDER
I wrote on the part where my dad's address was. I then scratched out his address with the black marker so it didn't get sent back here. I didn't care about the things that were in this box anymore. I got the closure I needed. I closed the marker, and sat it beside me.
I checked the time on my phone, and it was almost 5pm. I wanted this box out of sight, and out of mind.
"Hey dad! What time does the post office close here?!" I called out.
"Seven. Why?" I heard him reply. "I thought you were going to battle Ash?"
I thought up something as fast as I could. Shit shit shit. I thought. "Oh, something came up," I said. "I borrowed a bunch of CDs and tapes from a friend back in Lavender Town. I completely forgot I had them, and she just texted me and asked if I could mail them back today." I lied. I crossed my fingers and prayed he bought it.
"Okay. Just be back in time for dinner!" He called out.
"Got it. Is the post office far from here?" I asked him. I looked at Mimikyu, and got an idea.
"No, not really. You should make it there and back in thirty minutes by foot." He answered. "Don't be long." He said.
With that, I picked up the box with my right arm. I looked over at Mimikyu. "Want to come with me, Mimikyu?" I asked it. I already knew what the answer was.
"Kyu!" Mimikyu exclaimed. I held out my left arm as a sort of bridge for Mimikyu to climb on so it could get on my shoulder. It climbed on my arm, and sat comfortably. It then started to snuggle up to my face. I smiled at this, and snuggled my face back in response.
I walked over to the loft stairs, and climbed down. As soon as I got down, I walked over to Gengar. "Are you okay with staying here while I go drop this off?" I asked him.
"Gengar!" Gengar nodded, as he continued sitting down and playing around with Rockruff. I will admit, the two of them playing around was cute.
My dad then turned around from the stove. "You're not taking Gengar?" He asked. He now looked at me suspiciously.
"Oh no, I was thinking this would be a good time for Mimikyu and I to bond. One on one time." I said, as I clutched the box and rubbed my left cheek up against Mimikyu's cloth.
"Alright. Just be home in time." He said, then turned back around to the stove.
"No worries dad, I will I promise." I said, as I turned back around to the door. I opened the door knob, and walked out. The warm air hit me immediately, warming me up from having been in the air conditioning for a while. I saw Ash down on the beach, I saw his Rowlet and Pikachu battling with each other. Huh. So that's his way of training. I never thought of it like that. I might have to try that with Froslass and Gengar.
"Hey, Emethyst! You coming?!" He called out, as he waved.
"I'm really sorry! I have something small I need to take care of," I called, as I closed my eyes bashfully. "But when I come back, definitely!" I called out as I clutched the box in my arm.
"Alright! See you soon!" Ash called out. "Pikachu, use iron tail!" I heard him call out.
With that, I took off down the dirt road that lead to the city. This was one of the key things to starting my new life in Alola. Never looking back. With Mimikyu on my shoulder, and such amazing Pokemon by my side; I felt like I could take on the world.
