《Future Dynasty》Lecture Twenty-Five

"Do I even want to know what this was all about?" Asked River as we got into the elevator, heading back down to the ground floor of the building.
Davis was standing watching us from just across the wide open area and I couldn't help but wave, with a cheeky smile on my face as the doors close over.
"Probably not but I got what I wanted." I remarked not wanting to say to much. God knows where all the cameras were around here. "Did anyone go into you while I was gone?"
River scoffed and folded his arms in annoyance. "Davis came in, trying to play nice and was asking about my dad. It was pretty clear the two of them don't get on anymore than him and your parents."
We fell into silence knowing it was best not to say anything more until we were safely out of there. As we step back out of the elevator all eyes were on us down in the lobby. They were probably all waiting around to see what the outcome of my little scene was.
They were probably disappointed at my unbothered look.
Ignoring them all, I made my way towards the door with no one trying to stop us. It wasn't long before we were back in the car, with River in the drivers seat.
As he started up the car I looked in the mirror to see that my make up had indeed made a mark on my face.
"Such a shame." I sighed as I did my best to try and rub the rest of it off. My hoody was already ruined from earlier so it wasn't like it made a difference now.
The damage was already done.
"Well no one asked you too basically ball your eyes out in the middle of the F.B.I headquarters. I thought Davis was about to have a fucking heart attack." River easily sped through the traffic with ease, not once putting a foot wrong.
"How else was I meant to get us up the stairs? It was the first thing that came to my mind." I laughed knowing that I could've probably handled it better, if I had thought it through for a second.
Life was more fun this way, you never knew what would happen if you just let life happen.
"It better be worth it, what ever you were doing."
"It will be as long as the Little King does what I need him to do." I spoke finally finishing doing the best I could with what I had. My eyes were still black around the edges but I could pull it off as a smokey look.
Thankfully my eyes were no longer bloodshot after talking with Daniella.
She had seen through my trick completely. Reagan had clearly told her a lot more than we all first thought.
"Reagan? What does he have to do with all this?"
"Everything." I grinned knowing what I was going to say next would make River roll his eyes at me. "You know about Daniella and my older brother don't you?"
"Just what Nike had told us. That they were all best friends at one point." River frowned not really getting where I was going with this.
"Yea, well my brother seemed to be more than just friends with Daniella and he fucked it up basically."
Something must have clicked with River because he sent a glare my way but there was amusement hidden behind it.
"You're telling me I risked getting my ass arrested just so you could play matchmaker?"

I waved River off. "No but that is a benefit. I needed someone on the inside to do something for me and Daniella seemed like my best option. It's clear mom has something on Davis, but that doesn't mean he'd put up with my shit. So my next best option was Daniella. After all she seems to know more about my family than she lets on."
"Reagan is going to kill you, Layla." This time River's voice was hard but I was expecting this. He was right, Reagan would kill me for involving Daniella but what I needed her to do wouldn't cost her. "You can't use Daniella, even your mom had warned you against it and your mom lets you make your own mistakes. So if she was telling you to back off, I don't think you should be fucking around with this."
River being annoyed at me was expected but it wasn't something that I liked.
It was just as well I knew how to get River on my side once more.
Leaning over to him as he stopped at a red light I rested my hand on his thigh. Slowly, I let it trail up higher and higher.
His whole body tensed immediately under my touch and I couldn't help but let out a cunning smile.
"But you won't rat me out Rivvy, will you?" My voice was soft and innocent, when we both knew I was anything but that.
River lifted his lift hand and placed it on the front of my neck acting like he wanted to choke the life out of me. My whole body burned with excitement and I could hear my own blood pumping in my veins. When my hand went even higher on his leg he pushed me back with his hand still on my neck so that I was back against my seat.
This time he was leaning in front of me. His lips brushed against my ear as he spoke.
"Don't do that shit unless you're going to commit to it." His voice was rough in an attractive way that had me sitting on the edge of my seat for more.
"We both know I can commit to it." My own voice matched his but we were broken out of our spell as a horn sounded from behind us.
The light had turned green.
River leaned back and knocked the car into gear. He moved in his seat and I couldn't help but laugh as he tried to adjust himself.
"You all right there, Rivvy?"
"Fuck off, Kennedy."
Letting out a laugh I leaned back in my seat and looked out the window with a grin on my face. This was normal for me and River, the flirting and joking around. Still didn't stop my mind wandering back the other night when me and River got a little bit to comfortable.
Looking at River from the corner of my eye there was no doubt why River was considered at the top of the food chain to the female population.
One of his hands rested on the steering wheel, guiding the car with ease. The tattoos on his arm danced around every time his hand clenched and unclenched on the wheel. He had tattoos on his hand covering his knuckles but I knew below them were scars that would never heal.
River was born into this world and from the moment he turner fourteen he had thrown himself right into it.
He didn't doubt what he wanted to do for one second, he always knew who he wanted to be.

Now he was determined to be the best he could be.
There was something to admire about that.
"Do you think you'll ever regret it?" There was no point in asking this question because I already knew the answer but it was something that had been on my mind.
"What?" Asked River with a frown as he looked at me for a second before turning back to look at the road.
"Everything." I said shrugging not really sure myself how to explain, but River seemed to understand what I was saying.
He threw his hand on my thigh and squeezed it in support, he didn't remove it after.
"No, I don't regret anything I've ever done and will do."
Shooting River an unbelievable look I almost laughed at his words but he was deadly serious.
"You don't regret anything at all?"
"No." Shrugged River like it wasn't really a big deal. "Every choice I've made has lead me to where I am today." He squeezed my leg again before removing his hand from my thigh to change gear. "And I like where I am."
"Fair enough." I said as I fished my phone out of my pocket when it started to ring, it was Levi. "Yea?"
"You're still coming to my game tonight aren't you?" I could hear his friends in the background as he told them to shut up so that he could talk to me.
"Yea, why?"
"Mom says she's coming." I could hear the excitement in his voice but he tried to hide it. He didn't do a very good job and I could help but smile too at his happiness. It was rare from on of our parents to go to school stuff like this. They wanted to we knew that but it was hard between moms work and dads lifestyle. "Would you be able to pick up Emilia? Mom said we should all be there because we rarely get to do this sort of thing. She's coming straight from work to the game so won't have time to stop and get her."
"Yea, sure no problem."
"Great, thanks. I better go I have to get ready for tonight." With that he hung up. We didn't say bye to each other we never did and never will.
"Your brother does realise Emilia isn't at home right?" River had this look on his face like he knew something I didn't. With this he had my full attention as I turned in my seat slightly.
"Why? Where is she?" You'd think I would know but I've been so caught up everything I haven't really had time to see her. In fact now that I thought about it I haven't even seen Emilia about the house.
"Asher told me that she's been hanging around Cole a lot more." River gave me a pointed look. "Have to say, Asher wasn't one bit happy about as he mentioned it to me. I seen him mopping about one day and made the mistake of asking him what was wrong. Next thing you know I had a twenty minute rant heading my way."
"Cole? As in Zoe's youngest son?"
Zoe has three kids Scarlett, Draven and Cole. Scarlett is slightly younger than my brother Reagan. She's tuff as nails and wouldn't think twice about putting someone in there place. She has a second nature for working with cars, something that she had gotten from her dad. She's also my moms biggest fan and you'd swear to God she worships the ground she walks on.
Reagan had once told me to not let Scarlett's loving nature around our mom fool me. Scarlett was the only woman next to mom that actually terrified him.
Then there was Cole. The youngest of the siblings. He the same age as Emilia, just a couple of weeks older. Even when he was younger he was cool and quiet type. With his dark looks and calm demeanour I knew he was going to be the right heartbreaker when he was older. While Asher was born into his looks like all of the Knight brothers, Cole was the type that you knew would get more good looking with time.
If he's caught my sister attention it seems that I was right.
"Yea, seems like Asher doesn't like it."
"Ash is probably just worried he's not going to be the best friend anymore."
"Umm." Hummed River like he knew something more than I did.
"What?" I asked with a raised eyebrow knowing where this was going.
Did Asher have a crush?
Asher and Emilia have been best friends from they were born. As they were growing up me and the other used to tease them all the time, saying that they would end up together. Both of them denied it and as they got holder the rest of us kind of dropped the topic.
Maybe I had been right after all.
"Nothing." Shrugged River, clearly not wanting to give anything about his brother away.
It was too late I could read River like a book.
"Oh, I so can't wait to see Ash next."
River pulled into the parking lot, letting out a chuckle as he did so. "You're such a bully."
"And you're not?" I asked as I took my seatbelt off rolling my eyes.
"True, but I don't bully you." Spoke River as he got out of the car and I followed his lead. As I walked around to met him he threw his arm over my shoulder and leaned down to my ear. It took everything to not react to his closeness but I knew what he was doing. He was trying to get a rise out of me and I hated to admit it but it was working. "I torture you."
Before we were able to reach the front door of the restaurant a car cut in front of us stopping us in our path. It was only a mere second away from running us over, if it wasn't for River's quick reactions of stepping us back.
River's playful nature was gone in a mere second as he looked at the car with pure hatred. Not that I blamed him because once I got over my initial shock I was quick to react.
"What the fuck." I said hitting the window of the car with such force I was surprised it didn't shatter.
The window the car slowly went down and the face I saw was the last face I thought to see.
Ezra.
Taking a second glance at the car it was without a doubt his car. Clearly me and River were to pissed to even care to give the car a second look. It explained when the glass didn't budge, it was bullet proof.
"Did you two know you're being watched?" Ezra had a easy going smile on his face as he sighed like we were two little kids that needed to be watched.
River's arm tightened on my shoulder, I knew it was to tell me not to react.
We didn't want who ever it was watching us to know that we knew.
"Where?" Asked River with a smile that only we would know was fake. To anyone else it looked like River was having an easy going conversation with his brother.
"Black SUV, to your left." River leaned into the car through the window like he was talking low to his brother when really he was looking at the SUV through the blackout windows.
"Why is it always a black SUV?" I sighed not even bothering to hide my curiosity as I turned to look at it.
It was the same one as the ones Enzo's men were driving the night that I met him. Instantly my eyes narrowed in it's direction, as I turned my body to face the car head on.
"Kennedy, what the fuck are you doing?" Gritted River through his teeth, clearly having wanted to keep it on the down low.
Turning around to River I lifted the back of his hoody and pulled out the gun that I knew he had hidden there. I hid it under my own hoody and made my way over to the SUV with a mission.
Ezra laughter could be heard behind me as I heard a car door open and close. I knew those boys, they might find my actions amusing or crazy but they would always have my back.
Making my way over to the car it didn't move an inch, and I couldn't see into it when I was finally beside the driver window.
Knocking on the window I had a wide childish smile on my face as I waited for them to put the window down.
For a few seconds nothing happened but then slowly the window made it way half way down. Then I seen the same man who had stood beside Enzo the other night.
I was right.
As quick as possible I pulled out my gun and pointed it at the man with a grin on my face. I didn't have a care in the world that we were in a parking lot, in front of popular restaurant, in broad daylight.
These guys are crossing a line and I was done with their shit.
"Hello."
