"𝐖𝐎𝐖." Lila looked at the jar in her hand in amazement as Sloane handed out their wedding invitations. "And you did all of this by yourself?"
"Luther helped too." Sloane replied. "We stayed up all night."
But just as she finished handing them out, Reginald and Klaus came running into the lobby, catching everyone off-guard. Just minutes ago they were discussing them, the two also didn't look too good.
"Gather 'round, children!" Reginald raised his voice, not caring about how stunned everyone was. "Quickly now!"
"The hell have you been?" Diego asked Klaus.
"Oh, Reg and I." He pointed at Dad. "We got all tangled up in a whole father-son-end-of-the-world road trip kinda thing. You know?"
"You two are hanging now?" Ben seemed to be absolutely heartbroken.
"Yeah, we laughed, we cried, we played in traffic," Klaus listed everything as Reginald stood there with a wide smile. "And long story short, I'm immortal now." He dramatically grunted, pretending to be flexing his muscles.
"Whoa, wait." Luther stopped him. "You're what now?"
"Klaus, have you gotten into the bath salts again?" Allison looked at him.
"I think the more pertinent question is, why are you all playing with jars?" Reginald asked, looking around at everyone.
"They're invitations." Sloane kindly told him as Diego through his jar behind his back.
"Nobody's playing." Luther was much more serious about this than her. He seemed to be upset about Dad bringing their wedding up.
"Luther and I are getting married." Sloane gave one of the jars to Reginald.
He inspected it in his hands like a toy. "All of space and time is collapsing, and you are planning a wedding?"
"Yeah, and, uh, the thing is, um," Luther quickly stood up from his seat. "Space is limited. So it's kind of a per-plate situation, so, you know." He clearly didn't want Reginald to come to the wedding, so he took the jar out of his hand.
But Dad just stared at him in shock, clearly not being phased by the disinvite. "Is this how I raised you? To fiddle while Rome burns?"
Klaus saw that Reginald raised his voice, so was quick to jump in. "Remember what we talked about, Reg." He came closer to him and whispered. "Remember to breathe."
"Quiet, I'm on a roll." Reginald shot back.
"Dad, have you been taking your pills?" Sloane asked him.
"As a matter of fact, I haven't." Reginald proudly told her. "And I can confirm that I've never felt better in my life. You thought you could dope me up and slow me down, take control of my affairs and squander my fortune. Well, Klaus here was good enough to wean me off that wretched poison." He proudly pointed at Klaus whose eyes went wide. "And now that the fog is lifting, I can see all your dastardly designs with a bracing clarity."
"You took him off his meds?" Sloane turned to Klaus. "What were you thinking?"
"Clearly, he's the only one doing any thinking." Reginald answered for her. "All of you could learn a thing or two from this impressive young man."
As Reginald was showing off Klaus like a real trophy, Diego snickered at that. "The world really is ending! Oh my God."
"As for the rest of you, your training is to resume post-haste." Hargreeves added. "We're running out of time. And we still have a mission to complete."

"I'm ready." Ben shot right up. "Let's do this."
"Let me guess." Five spoke up. "Project Oblivion?"
Reginald's smile vanished and his face went pale as if he just seen a ghost. "How do you know about that?"
"I heard all about it from Pogo." Five answered him with a smile.
"Now, there's a name I haven't heard in some time." Reginald turned away all disappointed.
"And he confirmed what I've always suspected about you." The boy pointed at him.
"Which is?" Reginald asked.
"That you're a sadistic lunatic who's planning on gambling all of our lives in another pointless mission." Alas, Dad finally sounded like Dad, thanks to Five.
"And you'd take the word of a disgruntled chimp over that of your own father?" Reginald asked him.
Five was quick to stand up and teleport right up to his face. "Every damn day."
"Nobody wants you here, Dad." Luther told him. "You should leave."
"Hey, you don't speak for all of us, big guy." Ben still stood on his father's side.
"Feel free to join him." Luther said to him in such a strict tone, that he almost sounded menacing. That's why it left Ben speechless.
"I see." Dad spoke up. "So this is what it's come to. Insurrection."
Klaus was, once again, quick to shush him the second he turned cold. "That's not the kind of erection we're driving for here, all right? Everybody just needs to be cool. Clearly, you guys are on a different chakra frequency right now." He quickly ranted everything. "Hey, Pops, let's go have a nice cup of tea in the suite."
It looked like that was a rhetorical suggestion because Klaus clutched Reginald's arm and began dragging him away from everyone. "Luther, Sloane. Oh my God. I'm beyond thrilled. You guys are gorgeous. Amazing. Send me your registry!"
Now they were left to themselves, so it took them almost no time to begin packing up and leaving the room for their own business. Y/n stood up from her seat and walked out of the room just like everyone else as well.
Five noticed her walking down the stairs and was quick to follow her. He jumped and ended up teleporting right to her side where she was waiting for the elevator.
Y/n wasn't even startled by it, she continued to stand there as normal. "Hey, listen," She wasted no time and turned to him. "When you went to the Commission, did you ever see me anywhere? Or did you only see yourself?"
Five took a second to think for himself. "No, I didn't see you, it was only me. But to be fair, there was no one there, except for me."
The elevator doors opened and Y/n sighed to herself, walking inside. "Great." As Five followed her from behind. "Just great."
The boy could see that something was bothering her, and it wasn't only the pregnancy hormones. "Something wrong?"
"Do you know what that means, Five?" Y/n suddenly raised her voice. "It means that in the end, I died and you lived." He stayed silent as the doors opened and the two walked out towards their room.
"You know, that could also not be the case, right?" Five tried looking on the other hand. "Maybe you survived and went somewhere else, maybe took a briefcase and saved yourself?"
Y/n stopped at the doors with him and sighed. "I don't know. I, honestly, have no idea. I'm just lost at this." She opened the doors and the two walked inside her room.

Five followed her steps as she took a seat on her bed. "What's really bothering you, Y/n?"
"Want to take three guesses?" Y/n sarcastically replied to him. "Hours ago, we were talking about creating a family, and now..." An invisible force stopped her from continuing. "...now that will never fucking happen."
The boy looked down at the ground and smiled, walking over to her. "You know, I like the name Luke if it's a boy and Evelyn if it's a girl."
As Five sat down next to her, Y/n slowly looked at him in confusion. "What does that have anything to do with this?"
"My point is," He moved in closer and took Y/n's hand in his. "We will have that happy ending either way and we will have our family that we so want." He smiled. "I promised you that and I'm done breaking promises."
"I know." Y/n tilted her head and smiled back. "But you need to go, Luther's bachelor party is waiting for you."

𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐋𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐀𝐘 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐔𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐑-𝐈𝐍-𝐋𝐀𝐖'𝐒 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐌, the singing of the brothers was so funny and loud to Y/n, that she could hear it all across the hotel. As she chuckled to herself, she accidentally bumped into Ben, who was walking out of Sloane's room at that same moment.
Y/n's eyes went wide for a second. "Ben."
"Y/n." But he just quickly acknowledged her and walked off without emotion.
After following Ben out with her eyes and deciding to ignore him, Y/n walked over to Sloane's room and knocked on her opened door. That caught Sloane's attention and she saw Y/n standing at the threshold. "Y/n, what are you doing here?"
"I came over here to give you some advice from an actual divorced woman." Y/n softly chuckled, walking inside. "And to welcome you to our family." That made Sloane smile. "I can't stay mad at you forever, Sloane. I can't live with myself like that."
The bride showed to a couch and invited Y/n to sit down. "So, you're divorced?"
"That's what caught your eye?" Y/n asked, making Sloane chuckle. "But yeah, I am. My love story is way too long to tell you in one sitting, but I do have something I would like to say to you." Sloane patiently waited for her to say it. "It's cliche and stupid, but as dumb as it sounds, don't forget to cherish each other.
You and Luther are a couple I never thought I'd see, but I'm happy, to see you two together. Luther's never been so happy." Y/n warmly smiled. "Just know that you will always find your way back to them. Once a lover, always a lover. And the best part is, you will never fall out of love with them, something will always be keeping you together."
Sloane tightly held her wedding dress in her hands, being in the middle of sewing it. "Can I ask you, why did you have a divorce?"
Y/n could feel that force in her throat, not letting her talk. "You see, my marriage was, uh, very rushed. Even though that's not the reason, my ex-husband lied to me so many times, I became sick of it. And I really tried to make things better. I held onto our marriage for decades, but never liked that we were associated together in public like that. So, our marriage came to an end. But not our story."
Sloane looked down at the ground. "Do you still love your husband after all this time?"
Y/n quickly answered. "Of course. Honey, I know I might not look like it, but I'm 58 years old. I have lived a long and eventful life. At this point, I don't care about my past as much as I did before."
The two women shared a couple of smiles and chuckles, enjoying their first bonding time. "Listen," Slone began with an unsure voice. "I know this might be too much to ask, but Luther has Viktor as his best man, and, uh, I would like to ask you if you would like to be my, um, maid of honor?"
Y/n was more than shocked to hear about this. "Oh." But in a good way.
"You really don't have to do much, just be by my side and, you know, maybe hold my flowers," Sloane began nervously ranting. "And make sure that things are good, I don't know, if you say no, it's fine, no one's really too invested in this wedding anyways-"
"Yes," Y/n cut her off, taking her hands in hers. "Sloane, it would be incredible. I'm flattered you asked me."
Sloane's smile was wide and you could see the joy in her eyes. "Thank you. Oh, that reminds me." She carefully put her dress down and walked over to her closet. "While I spent making those invitations, I also spend working on your dress."
Y/n stood up from the couch and chuckled. "What do you mean?"
With a proud look on her face, Sloane pulled out a gorgeous slim-fitted cinnamon color dress with small string sleeves on the shoulders. It looked like it was being crafted for hours.
"Oh my gosh." Y/n covered her mouth and laughed. "Sloane, it's beautiful."
"I don't know much about fashion, but I chose a universally liked color." Sloane chuckled. "And I didn't know your size, but we can stitch it if it's bad."
"It's perfect." Y/n walked over to her with the same smile as hers, inspecting the silk dress. "Now let's get you ready, it's your wedding day after all."

"𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐃𝐎 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 how to do make-up and hair so well?" Sloane asked her, looking at herself in the mirror. "I thought you spent your entire life in the apocalypse, you seem like a true professional."
"Well, I did," Y/n said as she let one of Sloane's hair strands from the curler. "But I also had a lot of time to occupy myself, so I learned many things from how to fix a dishwasher to how to paint a picture frame."
"Wait, there's a specific way how you're supposed to paint a picture frame?" Sloane chuckled.
"No, I just thought it sounded cool." Y/n replied, earning a laugh from her. "But the one thing I missed was practicing my make-up and hair skills on others. This is my first time doing it to someone else besides me."
"Well, it doesn't seem that way." Slaone complimented her. "You look like you know what you're doing."
"Oh, I almost forgot something." Y/n put the hair curler down on the table and turned to Sloane. "Do you have any soap and an eyebrow shaper by any chance?"
"Uh, I do have an eyebrow shaper," Sloane said as she went through her cosmetics bag. "But no soap in this room, already used it."
"It's fine," Y/n quickly took her room key from the table. "I'll go get some from my room as fast as I can."
So she ran out of the room and took the elevator to her room so fast, that it felt as if time was of the essence. But after she opened the door to her room, she saw Five standing there, looking at himself in the mirror, and putting the final touches.
He had changed his suit into a more formal one, his hair was styled like usual, and was fixing his collar, trying to make it look the best, so much, that he didn't even notice Y/n coming into the room.
"Well, don't you look dapper?" Y/n chuckled walking over to him in her bathrobe.
When Five saw her, a smirk planted on his face. "That's the least I could do for Luther's wedding." He wrapped his hands around her waist, pulling her in closer. "And why aren't you dressed up?"
"Well, that's because I'm the maid of honor." Y/n proudly said to him. "And I have some duties."
"You are?" Five raised an eyebrow. "Well, I can see why." He looked down a bit, earning a playful punch to the arm from Y/n.
"Don't be late, we only have 45 minutes until the wedding." She was about to go the bathroom after getting out of Five's embrace, he pulled her back in by her arm. "Five! I have to go, Sloane's waiting for me."
"And I'm - your plus one - waiting for you as well." Five said to her in a low voice tone. "Will this be like our wedding where I don't see you until you walk out like a bride? Or do we meet somewhere else?"
Y/n put her hand on his chest and smiled. "You'll see me at the banquet hall." Before planting a kiss on his cheek. After she went to the bathroom and took that bar of soap, throwing everything to the ground, she scurried out of the room once again. "Okay, love you, bye!"

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Party Leveling
{A new notification has arrived.} In front of a few people, these hologram-looking messages appeared and changed their lives in entirely different forms. Things such as growing stronger, becoming smarter, feeling more agile, became possible within short periods of time from that point onwards. The one who regretted his weak healing abilities for years began to chase after the magic powers that could turn reason and sense upside down while keeping his goal, this duty to the wrongs he committed. The other one, who complained about his lack of strength, strove towards the path of an unbeatable champion to protect those he held dear. When the person who had everything found a path to desire for more, not fearing the consequences and the obstacles, he also began to walk onwards to a new life. And among them, the one who walked aimlessly but also never stepped down on the choices he made along the way, was the one who couldn’t be ignored nor disrespected by anyone. The “Player” system that they all obtained, and which granted them several abilities, knowledge and directions, was also the beginning of an entire new era in this world where monsters, magic and technology, were already common and wide-spread. There’s not a single hero, but after committing mistakes after mistakes, learning from the painful and thorny path that they take, and growing as people with the people that surround them, then someday... there will certainly be saviors. [Quick reminder that this novel is also being published in Webnovel(dot)com and ScribbleHub(dot)com]
