tokoyami was hiding in the bushes of the park

he didn't want to be seen

the other kids said he was scary to look at and so was his new quirk

"they're just being meanies," darkshadow said to reassure the 4-year-old

"but what if I am? I don't want to be scary" tokoyami cried as tears dropped onto the floor

his family were getting the picnic-ready so they let tokoyami go off to play until they were done

so they didn't notice tokoyami was crying his eyes out

nor did they notice another 4 years old being picked on

"eww you look yucky" tokoyami heard from his bush

poking his head out he saw a 5 other kids

1 being bullied by the other 4

"Why do you have so many eyes?" one asked

"you look freaky!" another exclaimed

"what's under your mask?" another questioned

with that last question, the bully made their way to seek the answers themselves by force as they began pulling on his mask

"Please stop! leave me alone!" the poor boy pleaded to try to pull back his mask

"Why should we, your keeping secrets, you shouldn't do that" the child continued to pull

"Yeah, that's bad" one of the other children joined in

tokoyami was scared, but that was under the sudden feeling of rage filling his body

"hey! leave him alone" tokoyami shouted as he exited the bush, dark shadow at his side ready to fight

his shouting caught all the attention of the children

"Why should we birdy?" the bullies leader asked as he let go of the boys mask

"yeah! he needs to do as we say" another bully exclaimed

"no he doesn't, your not in charge of him, so leave him alone and go away you meanies!" tokoyami continued to shout

"what will you do if we don't" asked one of the children, pushing tokoyami so he fell onto the floor

"then you'll answer to me!" darkshadow roared as he grew bigger, both by the growing negative emotion but also by the need of wanting to protect his host

this caused all the bullies to run away, screaming

"Ahhhhh, scary!"

once satisfied that they had left tokoyami went over to the crying victim

"are you ok?" tokoyami asked as he helped the boy to his feet

only when he stood up tokoyami found him to be much taller than himself

"I'm ok, are you?" the boy asked

"I'm good" tokoyami responded

this was where a conversation would end, but there was more to say

"thank you for saving me," the boy said

"your welcome, but why were they being mean to you?" tokoyami asked in worry, not remembering what had started the fight

"they were being mean because I look scary"

"really, but you look so cool" tokoyami admired

the boy by the look of his face never seemed to have been admired before

"uh, thank you, but your the cool one, you made run away" the boy blushed

"because I'm scary" tokoyami said sadly

"no, because your brave" the multi-armed boy admitted

now it was time for tokoyami to look shocked

"what's your name?" the child asked

"fumikage tokoyami, you?" tokoyami admitted as he held out his arm to shake

"my name's mezo shoji" the newly shoji answered as he shook his new friend's hand

uncle hawks was given the important responsibility of keeping a 2-year-old tokoyami safe while playing in the park

the little bird himself was something of a gift

he had the head of a raven along with a demonic shadow bird beast that he could control at will

he knew he would become an amazing hero when he grew up

but for now, he was a little bundle of joy he swore to protect

which turns out to be more a handful then he thought it would be

"ok little buddy, time for-" hawks said as he got their lunches out of his bag, apple slices and chicken sandwiches

he had looked away for one second and when he looked back the little bird was gone

"tokoyami?" he questioned as he looked at the ground to make sure he was defiantly not there

he was not

"tokoyami?!" he said more urgently as he looked around himself

still no sign of the baby bird

"tokoyami?! now is not the time to play hide and seek buddy" he cried as he went into the air sending some of his feathers to search for his little nephew

and that's when he saw him

the tiny child was following a family of ducks to a pond

hawks had just scooped the boy into his arms before he fell in

tokoyami looked to his uncle in confusion as the red-winged hero took a giant sigh of relief, holding the little raven close

hawks was ready to give the scolding of a lifetime

but looking at the sad guilty puppy dog eyes the child was giving him, hawks knew he didn't have it in his heart to do so

plus the fact that he was following the birds just made it even more adorable

"you win this round bud" hawks laughed as he ruffled the ravens fluffy feathers, earning a gleeful shriek from the baby

"now let's get back to our dinner"
