"you're leaving already?" your roommate natalie groaned.
you nodded as you struggled to zip your suitcase shut.
"you can only stay in edmonton so long nat." you explained.
"true."
you had been going to school at the university of alberta in edmonton. you loved edmonton, but it could get cold and boring after a while so you decided surprising your boyfriend jack would be a suitable winter vacation.
long distance with jack was painful. not because you didn't trust him, because you couldn't see his face everyday.
you had gotten in contact with p.k. subban who hooked you up with tickets for their next game against ottawa.
"bye nat! i gotta go." you yelled from your dorm door.
"aww carlie wait." she ran to the door and hugged you, "i'll see you soon carl." she said using your nickname.
ahh the new jersey air. it was a nice change from oh so familiar edmonton. the only thing that wasn't enjoyable was the 6 almost 7 hour flight you were just on to get here. absolutely awful.
you kept your mind focused. you were here to support and see jack. stay awake, stay in a good mood.
when you arrived at the prudential center, you walked to the help desk to claim your ticket. thankfully, p.k. had remembered and your ticket for the game and pass for the locker room area was sitting there for your retrieval.
box seats. this dude is way too much sometimes. a little note was left for you by p.k. himself.
the seats will hide you from jack. you can watch him without him knowing you're here for the ultimate reunion later.
subbanator
it was 3-3. overtime proved short and unsuccessful for either team. the game was going into a shootout.

"NEXT SHOOTER FOR NEW JERSEY, JACK HUGHES!" the announcer bellowed through the speakers.
you cheered as loud as possible along with the rest of the jersey fans. jack could seal the win right here. nerve racking.
you watched him skate in at mid speed curving from left to right until he got to his desired shooting position.
the whole arena erupted into cheers. you jumped up and down cheering as loud as possible. he won the game.
you grabbed everything you brought with you and hustled down to the dressing room excitedly. you showed the security guard your pass and id and he let you through.
you couldn't wait for jack to get out. even happier that he wouldn't be in a bad mood from a loss.
you saw a laughing jack waving bye towards the door of the locker room. he was walking straight for the exit door.
you ran towards him and tapped his shoulder. he turned around quickly with a look of fear almost until he saw you. you smiled at him.
he let out a delighted high pitch scream and enveloped you into a bear hug.
"what are you doing here carlie!?" he exclaimed, holding your shoulders.
"to see my jack jack." you smiled brightly.
he hugged you once more.
"i missed you so much." he whispered.
"so did i jack so did i." you whispered back leaning into his chest.
"aw look at the young love i brought together." p.k.'s raspy voice sounded through the dressing room.
"thank you p.k.!" both you and jack said synchronized.
"no problem lil jizzy." p.k. said smiling, "bye guys." he waved.
you both waved back at him.
"let's go home and get pizza and cuddle." jack whined.
"i'm so down for that."
jack kissed your cheek, grabbed you hand, and started to run.
"jack slow down!" you begged, threatening to fall.
"i want cuddles carlie!"

Almost a Good Person
A memory, a memory of a boy who wanted more than pain, of a girl who wanted more than death, and an Isle that should not exist. The Isle of Red is a small, unassuming, quiet place. It is just large enough for a college, a small town, and maybe even a few more unusual sorts of places. Of course, the townsfolk practically know each other as family. Flush-faced regulars can be found toasting just about anything in the Briar's Brew, then, a few streets away, the same haggle of older women stationed themselves on their perch as they did every day from one of the few balconies in Central Square. They fuss away now, spouting the usual gossip as they watch us all from on high. Then there is the College here on the Isle of Red. My college. It has been often described as an unusual place by a good deal of people on the mainland. If they only would visit -why I am sure they'll soon have a change of heart, they may even come to find it a quaint sort of place, odd but in the same way a tattered old quilt can be both odd looking and warm, and especially soft. We teach mostly the same sort of disciplines here, with fantastic and absolutely normal professors.I must conclude that I am quite smitten with myself. The stage is set with a level of perfection that would have astonished me in my youth. They are coming. Derek will follow her. He knows the weight of reality too intimately, but she will be his true north if only for a short time. A beacon in the storm to show him the stunning pastels and brightness the sun may yet refract through his thinner, sharper pieces. Theoline will lead as she always has- well not always, not yet. She holds onto questions feverishly tight, that one. Lights them up inside like a new type of fuel without the slightest worry of being burned. She knows... There is but a certain few who can look at a map and find nothing where I stand but the Atlantic Ocean. And still, there is earth beneath me, a noisy pub down the road from me, and several people clucking conspiratorially on a balcony above me. She knows... that the Isle of Red doesn't belong here. Neither, technically, do I. (Hello!
