"psst carlie." you felt someone poking you in the shoulder as you tried to sleep.
your eyes fluttered open and you jumped in fear. jack was hovering over you.
"oh my god jack. i forgot i was here." you said clutching your chest.
"sorry cutie." his eyes turned puppy-like, "can you help me make breakfast?"
"yeah. yeah i can do that." you sighed tiredly as you got up.
jack performed his best celly and ran into the kitchen.
you put on some sweats and jack's sweatshirt. you rubbed your eyes as you walked into the kitchen.
"i got all the ingredients. can we make homemade cinnamon rolls?" he pleaded.
"that sounds great right now." you agreed.
together, you and jack made the cinnamon rolls and put them in the oven.
"want to watch riverdale?" jack asked.
"you have so many good ideas." you said pulling jack to the couch.
you spent hours eating cinnamon rolls, watching netflix, and wrestling on the carpet.
"we should do something jack. i only have 2 more days here." you proposed.
jack frowned remembering that you were only in newark for 2 more days. his baby was leaving him.
"let's go on a ride through the city." jack suggested.
you nodded and ran into the bedroom to get dressed.
you put on some leggings and kept the same sweatshirt on. it was warm and it smelled like jack. win/win really.
jack took your hand, "let's go."
jack took you around the city, but instead of actually looking and being a proper tour guide, you guys blasted music and danced and singed in the car.
the music stopped as there was a incoming call from nico hischer.
"are you gonna answer that?" you asked.

"oh yeah." he accepted the call, "what's up nico?"
"we're do-"
jack shushed him aggressively.
"oh whoops. i'll text you later jack. love you bro."
"love you too man."
"what was that all about?" you furrowed you're eyebrows in confusion.
"just some personal matters with nico." jack countered.
you nodded skeptically as jack turned the music back on.
"why are we stopping at someone's house?" you asked.
"you'll see." he smiled.
he grabbed your hand and helped you get out of the car. he walked you into the house.
there was a large room that was filled with decorations.
"CARLIE!" all of the devils popped up from their hiding spots.
you giggled at all of them.
"what are you guys doing?"
"surprising you." p.k. subban said, "may i say i've surprised you twice now."
"who coordinated this?" you pondered.
everyone pointed at jack who blushed intensely. you kissed his cheek as everyone around the room 'ooooohh'ed.
the party began. you drank your favorite drink and walked around the room either greeting or meeting jack's teammates that were there.
"hey carlie, can i borrow you?" jack grabbed your arm gently.
"yeah. of course."
the both of you walked outside into the small garden outside of the carrick household. you glanced at all the flowers.
"connor is really in touch with his botanist side." you said laughing and turned around to see jack kneeling.
"whoa jacky? we can't get married now. we're only 18." you said with your hands up.
jack laughed hysterically.
"no not a marriage proposal." he finally calmed himself.
"until we can get married, this is a ring to show that i'll wait forever. i want to marry you when we're older. this is a promise." he said sincerely.
you held back tears, "i love you."
he slipped the ring onto your finger. on the inside you saw his name engraved into it.
"i love you too sugarplum."
you kissed as all the guests clapped in the background.

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.

Cary Simms: The Fairy Mushroom Forest
From a young age, Cary Simms knew that she wasn't like the other boys her age. She didn't know why or how that was, but it seemed apparent to the bullies of her school. They would often call her names, chase after her after school, and beat her up when they could catch her. Her only protection, besides escape, was in the words of the Good Book. But that was before she stumbled into the supposedly haunted house at the end of her street. When a mysterious ring and a drawing on the back wall of the post office opened up a whole new world for her, things quickly went from weird to scary. At a new school, in a new world, surrounded by people who had access to magic, all Cary could think of was how to escape the witches that had her trapped there. It was only having her best friend by her side that gave her any comfort at all. ***This is my first attempt at a middle grade book, and would appreciate feedback. Please note, this is a second draft, and might not represent the final product.***
