you always felt that you were never enough for your family and that's one of the reasons you had kept your relationship with jamie a secret from them for a whole year.
"please amara, i really want to meet them."jamie begged for what felt like the hundredth time.
"j, i don't know. my parents are so strict and everything. i'm just scared." you admitted to him.
jamie put his hands on your waist and looked into your eyes, "i will still love you even if they hate you. nothing could change that."
you sighed and hesitantly nodded.
"okay." you whispered.
jamie smiled and kissed your lips.
a few weeks later, when the stars season ended, you both were trying your best to tidy up the house. your parents and all your siblings were coming to stay.
"i just realized how much i hate cleaning." you groaned and jamie agreed with you quickly.
the house was as clean as you could get it when you heard a ring of the doorbell.
you jogged you open the door.
"hi guys." you smiled.
you quickly saw the dislike on your parents face when jamie walked in behind you with a smile, but you shook it off.
"come in." you said and the whole family filed through the door.
your mother and father spoke in quiet croatian to each other and you bit the inside of your cheek before guiding them all the guest bedrooms.
"who is that amara?" your mother asked, "who is the man?"
"that's my boyfriend, jamie." you said quietly.
they shook their heads and began to whisper to each other again.
later that night, you all sat down for dinner.
"so jamie, what do you do for a living?" your father asked.

"i play professional hockey." he said.
you looked down at your plate.
your mother and father's faces went straight.
"amara, you must come home to croatia." your mom announced.
"what? no." you said and shook your head, "absolutely not. dallas is my home now."
"no, you must come home." your father stated.
"no." you said simply, "croatia is not where i belong anymore."
"we cannot allow you to stay here with a man that does not have a stable enough job."
you bit your lip and shook your head, "unbelievable." you breathed out.
your family was one of the most prestigious ones in croatia. they were in the top ten richest families in croatia.
"it's a shame that you're trying to rip your daughter away from something she loves because it's not the path that you desire." jamie said.
you placed a hand on his thigh, "you don't need to do this babe."
"yes i do." he said.
you sighed and gripped onto his thigh.
"you should be happy that your daughter has found a place that she loves. i love amara very much and i hope i treat her like the queen she is. i just think it's amazing that you guys can't be proud of her like i am. she has a beautiful soul and you can't see past her boyfriend who loves her more than anyone could imagine. it's sad." jamie finished and shook his head.
"what do you have to say amara?" your father asked.
"he said it all. i'm not leaving jamie or dallas." you stated strongly.
"we are done with you amara. you have embarrassed our family." your father said and stood up.
"all of my siblings like him. you two are the issue." you said and chuckled dryly, "just leave."

your parents left the house and brought your siblings with them.
you put your head on the dining table and then looked up at your boyfriend.
"thank you jamie." you whispered and held his face in your hands.
"for what?" he asked.
"for standing up for me. i appreciate it."
"i love you so much baby and what they were saying was not right. i couldn't just sit there" jamie said and kissed your lips.
"i was going to tell my parents the news as well if it went good but it didn't so i'll tell you because i think you'll like it." you smiled.
"oh yeah? what is it?" jamie asked.
"i'm pregnant." you said.
jamie gasped loudly and stood up, "are you serious?" he asked.
you nodded with a giggle at his excitement.
he dropped down to his knees and kissed your stomach, "hi baby." he smiled.
nine months later, your baby boy was born, milan amias benn and you couldn't be happier where your life was.
dallas wasn't your home, but jamie and milan were.

The Wandering Scholar
Zhou Mingzie, A young Chinese American is suddenly brought into a mythical land, similar to China in many ways, but is most definitely not. This new world appears to contain cultivation elements like the Wuxia and Xanxia stories he read throughout highschool, but he can also gain Levels and Skills, I mean Paths and Techniques. Sure he is Chinese, but he grew up in America, so he doesn't want to ascend to the heavens and fight spirit beasts, does he? But Mom wants him to embrace his heritage more...jk...unless? [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Inspired heavily by The Wandering Inn and Beware of the Chicken, as well as cultivation novels in general, this story hopes to take a Westernish approach to the standard Cultivation approach, being more subtle and changing how it approaches the standard tropes of the genre, without abandoning them entirely.
