meilani walked to the back of john b's to find jj sitting on the back porch. "hey stranger" she smiled. jj jumped at her voice and quickly wiped his eyes. he looked up at her and it was visible that he had gotten hit. "jj wh-" she started. "don't say anything. i'm okay." she knew he wasn't though.

she watched him intently as he got up off of the porch and walked past her. she turned to face him and could now clearly see his busted lip and swollen cheek. she said nothing but instead reached out to touch his face. jj swatted her arm away, "lani i'm fine" he laughed with no emotion. meilani didn't know what to say. she just stood in silence staring at him. "quit the staring meilani, i'm fine. my old man got a bit touchy, nothing new." jjs father had been beating him for years. everytime it was brought to the sheriff's station, they either ignored it or had no real evidence to move jj away from his dad. meilani tried countless times to get her dad to help but there was simply nothing he could do either unless he caught mr. maybank in the act.

as soon as the rest of the pogues arrived, attention grew to jj and his face. "jj what's going on? what happened this time?" kiara asks, concern in her voice. jj stays silent. "oh jj please quit it with the tough guy act and tell us what happened, we know you-" john b starts but quickly gets cut off by jj catching him by the collar. "we know you're what, john b?" jj spits in his face. john doesn't flinch. "we know you're hurting. it's nothing to be embarrassed about." jj stares him right in the eyes. he lets him go after a few seconds and storms off. meilani goes to follow him but pope puts a hand on her shoulder, "do you really think that's a good idea?"

for the next few days, jjs a-wall. the group go about their day to day life waiting for him to show up. "look i'm gonna go by his house one last time" meilani says. the group pull up and wait for meilani outside. she knocks but to no surprise there's no answer. she lets herself in and looks around the house to see if she can find him. as she's about to give up she hears noises coming from jjs room. she opens the door quietly. as soon as she does, she regrets it instantly. jj looks up. meilani stands there shocked. jjs hooking up with another girl from the kooks.

"go guys, now." meilani sounds shaky but no one questions her they just drive off. kiara looks out the back window to see jj half naked with a well-off girl standing on his porch. "you're kidding, right?" kiara booms. "what, what is it?" john b asks. meilani stays dead silent while pope stares at her. "jj....uhm.." kiara stumbles on her words. "jj was hooking up with a kook!!" meilani shouts. the rest of the ride is silent.

no one hears from meilani for a couple hours.

"mei, i know you're in there, you're dad told me" kiara calls from the porch. meilani appears fully dressed and ready. "you're okay?" sarah asks. "yeah? why wouldn't i be?" meilani asks, seeming like a completely different person than before. "so you're ready for this kegger then?" the girls ask. "so ready."

the girls arrive at the kegger and are met by john b and pope. meilani looks around and spots everyone in their own groups. "wanna drink?" a voice says from behind meilani. she turns around and is met by rafe. "i would love one" she smiles. the two grab their drinks and head off to sit on a log.

after a few drinks, meilani is drunk. it doesn't take much to get a girl who's 5'4, tiny and hasn't eaten at all that day to get drunk. "lani" a voice says. she looks up and sees jj. "oh hey" she slurs. "mind if i borrow you for a second?" "i'm all good ac-actually he-here with raaafe". rafe steadies meilani and looks at jj and shrugs. "mei, please" he begs, but she doesn't budge. "fuck off jj, i'm gonna gooo fuck rafe nowww like you did tha-tt kook slut" she hiccups. she stands up, immediately falling into rafes arms. he steadies her again and the pair begin walking away. "hey rafe! don't do anything stupid alright, she's drunk asshole."

the next morning meilani wakes up in tannyhill. she recognises the bedroom immediately. she looks over to find rafe sleeping on his couch. meilani lets out a sigh, thank god. she begins to get up and try and get ready. rafe wakes up to find meilani getting changed. "morning sunshine, how're you feeling" he says, his voice husky. "major headache, but i'm all good" she smiles, "thanks for taking care of me, you didn't have to do that." "of course lani, i wanted you to be as safe as possible and i mean i think my bed counts as something" he laughs causing the girl to giggle. "do you remember anything?" he asks. "i know jj tried to talk to me but that's all" "you said you were gonna fuck me." meilanis eyes widen, "i'm so sorry" she apologises. "no don't worry about it, wouldn't be the first time" he smirks, she laughs.

rafe walks her home, "goodbye haywood" "goodbye cameron, thank you for everything."
