《Setter Ace of Shiratorizawa》13: Three On Three

It was Tuesday and practice just ended, so the girls were cleaning up the gym and getting ready to go back to the rooms.
"KAZZZZZ!" Goshiki yelled, running into the girls gym so fast he was a blur. He stopped right in front of her, panting as she gave him a worried and surprised look.
"Um, are you okay Goshiki?"
"Y-yes I'm fine," He laughed awkwardly. "Uh, I wanted to ask you to come practice with me! I need a setter since Shirabu and Semi don't wanna do any more today."
"Of course I'll practice with you Goshiki! Just give me a minute to clean up the balls and then we can go over to your gym, yeah?" Kazane suggested, to which Goshiki nodded.
"I'll help you!" The two went around the gym, cleaning up the loose balls. Hana, Kimura and Azusa watched them with contempt, but didn't comment as they left the gym.
It didn't take long for the two aces to finish cleaning, then they headed over to the gym. "So it's just gonna be you and me?" Kazane questioned. Goshiki nodded, blushing a bit as he rubbed the back of his neck. Luckily she didn't notice.
"Thank you for helping me out, Kaz." He smiled, and the dark haired female just waved it off.
"That's the fifth time you've said thank you, I told you it's fine Goshiki." Kazane smiled brightly at him. "I'd never turn down a friend!"
"Glad to hear it!" He smiled back, but at the word friend he kind of deflated. It was true, he had a crush on Kazane since the first time they had met. She was just, how should he put it? Fiery but kind, a loud mouth but also loyal to a fault. He admired her for that, and wanted to keep their friendship strong and not break it by confessing.
Besides, he would never go after one of his bro's crushes, even if he had one himself. The bro code rang strong in him.

Arriving at the gym, everything was set up. They were, in fact, the only people there. "Alright let's get started. What tosses would you like to work on?" Kazane asked Goshiki, who shrugged.
"I wanna be good at hitting everything that comes my way, so make it range a bit please, if you're comfortable with that." He explained, so she nodded.
"Sure thing!" They went to their positions, and Kazane hit the ball at him. He passed it back to her, then getting under the ball, the dark haired girl set it.
Goshiki did his approach, then spiked the ball down cross court. "Nice kill!" Kazane complimented.
"Thanks! That was a good toss!" He returned.
"I also have some feedback about your approach," Kazane started, so Goshiki nodded for her to continue. "You're going straight for the spike, not actually waiting for it. That won't hurt you much since you can jump and you're tall, but at some point it could get you in trouble."
"Um, I'm not sure what you mean..." Goshiki trailed off, biting his lip.
"Alright, so let me show you instead." Kazane went to the outside position along with Goshiki. "Instead of going straight in for the ball," She explained, "watch the ball. Most of the sets you guys do are pretty high and slow, so you have time. Make sure to get the ball at the optimal point of impact." Putting the ball in his hands, she smiled. "Get it now?"
"I think so.. So keep your eye on the ball, and strike at the optimal point." Goshiki repeated using his own words. "But, uh, how?"
"Timing." Kazane said. "It's all about timing. Just get used to seeing the ball before you move for it, yeah? That way you won't be early and won't have to pause in the middle of your approach."
"Oh, okay! That makes sense!" Goshiki's eyes widened, then he bowed. "Thank you for your advice!"

"It's no big deal. Come on, we have more practicing to do." She grinned widely at him as she ruffled his hair playfully.
"Oh heyyyyy, what's going on in here??" Tendō's voice came out of nowhere, causing the two to turn towards it. The redhead was standing at the gym entrance with Ushiwaka, Semi, and Yamagata.
"Oh, hey guys!" Kazane waved. "We're just practicing a bit before dinner."
"Riiiiiight." Tendō narrowed his eyes at their position. Kazane and Goshiki were standing close to each other, the male had a ball in his hands and she was leaning against the cart.
"Mind of we join you?" Ushiwaka asked, causing all eyes present to widen. "We have enough for three on three if you guys are willing." He glanced at the three he had come with, who shrugged.
"Sure, that sounds like fun."
"Hell yeah!"
~•~
"Um, this is not fair. In the least." Kazane grumbled as she stood with Goshiki and Yamagata. Across the net was Semi, Tendō and Ushiwaka.
"Ahhh come on, we should do it while we can get away with it." Tendō grinned.
"I promise I will not let you down, Kaz!" Goshiki swore, causing the girl to let out a laugh.
"Alright then, counting on you Goshiki," Kazane smiled, then glanced at the other male. "You too, Yamagata."
"You got it." The libero nodded. So after getting set up, it started off as Goshiki's serve.
"Get a nice one for us!" Kazane called back to him as she stood at the net. Taking a deep breath, Goshiki threw the ball up and jumped, hitting it over the net.
"I got it!" Tendō said, passing the ball to Semi as Goshiki joined Kazane at the net.
"Ushiwaka!" Semi tossed the ball at their ace, who watched the ball before going to get it.
"Right side!" Kazane yelled. "Goshiki, let him have the straight."
"Alright." He nodded, and the two jumped to block as Ushiwaka was about to hit. He went exactly where they wanted him to, straight to Yamagata.
"It's up!" He exclaimed, the ball high enough to give both Goshiki and Kazane time to get to their positions.
"It's up to you!" Kazane gave the future ace a high toss. Remembering her advice, he saw the ball, gaging when he should get there.
Just as it hit its peak, Goshiki met it and shot it down line. However, Ushiwaka was there and received it with beautiful accuracy. "Dammit!" Goshiki cried as he landed.
Kazane had barely left the ground when Semi set Tendō a quick, to which he slammed it down before Yamagata could reach it. "Awww maaaan!" She whined as Tendō and Semi high fived.
"Nice receive Ushiwaka! That was a sight to be seen~" The redhead complimented, to which he nodded back.
"That's only one point, you haven't won yet!" Kazane declared as the three on their team went to defense.
"You keep telling yourself that." Semi smirked as Kazane growled in annoyance.
"Ooh I like that noise, you should come by my room later and you can do it all you want~" Tendō flirted, only for Semi to smack him.
"Stop it."
"Aww come on, I was only teasing! Ow!" Semi hit him again, and then the game resumed.
In the end, Ushiwaka, Semi and Tendō won, but it was a fairly close game at 21-25. "We should do this again sometime!" Tendō cheered as they all made their way back to the place they were inhabiting for that week.
"Yeah, I'd like that." Kazane agreed, smiling. "And maybe next time we can switch up the players."
"You know it, sister!" The two laughed as the rest just watched and walked in silence, not letting their wierdness infect them.
Coming to the building, Kazane parted with the boys to head to the girl's room. They watched her go, a smile on every one of their faces.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
