《Alpha Human》The Harmattan

The streets were painted black with left over obsidian. I watched the television as the news teams cleaned up the large amount of dust. The storm really did a number on this town. Many buildings were left destroyed as rubble. Holes filled with dust, which used to be roads. Still, it wasn't as disastrous as it would've been if Grant hadn't convinced me that it was the right thing to do. Being able to stop something so dangerous, and save the lives of a whole city made me feel invincible. Like I could finally do anything in this world.
The door squeaked open, and Grant's voice spoke through the door. "You've got a visitor" He said. I sat up from the bed I had been lying on.
Jacob was standing next to Grant. Glad to finally be able to see my family, I walked towards him, with a smile sprawled across my face. "Sam Johns, how have you been?" he asked.
I shrugged my shoulders. "As good as anyone in my position could be." I answered. It felt good to be able to see that he was okay, and well. I left him on shaky circumstances where I couldn't even truly say goodbye.
He looked down at the bloody bandages wrapped around my arm. "What happened to you" he said grabbing my arm softly. "Why are you all bloody?"
Grant stepped back. "I should leave you two alone." He said, "Sam. Make sure to explain everything to him" He added, then walked away.
Jacob made a displeasing face as if he were going to scorn me. "What is he talking about?" Jacob asked. "What do you need to explain?"
I took a few steps back for safety. "About that" I began. "I used my abilities to stop the storm that almost destroyed New York City" I said really quickly, so he couldn't hear me.

"You did what?!" he yelled. "Do you know how dangerous that is, running around like that. Why on earth would you do something like that, it could've put you in danger!"
"Because, no one else could do it" I said. "If I hadn't had done what I did, then New York City would've been wiped out, and we wouldn't even be alive."
"They have people for things like this. The army was coming, they had it under control. Just because you develop a few abilities, doesn't mean you have the right to go around pretending you're a hero. What if there were cameras there, and they reported you?"
"That wouldn't happen. Dr. Keeley gave me a disguise." I explained. "I'm smarter than you think. I can take care of myself" I argued.
"I don't care if you were the smartest person in the world. I swore on my brothers grave, that I'd protect you. If I let you go out into danger like that and not come back, I could never forgive myself" he said. "Promise me, that you will not do this again" he said.
I couldn't do that. The thrill I got while racing, and going against an opponent to test my skill was unbelievable. The rush of my adrenaline pumping up. I didn't want to let that go. I wouldn't let that go. "I'm sorry, but I can't do that. What right do you have to tell me what to do anyway? You may look like him, but you're not my father"
He crossed his arms, and walked closer to me. "I am your legal guardian, and you will do what I say regardless if I am your father or not. Right now I want you go, and wait for me in the car outside, is that understood?"
"It's my decision to make, and I'm going to stay."

Angrily he grabbed me, and shoved me in front of him. "Let's go and see what Dr. Keeley thinks about this."
"Fine." I said as if I had a decision to make. He followed close behind me down the hallway, until we had gotten to the living room.
When Dr. Keeley was in sight Jacob quickly jumped yelling at him. "Let me make this clear" he said to him. "Sam will not participate in any dangerous saving the world extracurricular activities, and he is coming home with me." He explained. "If you have a problem with that then you can speak to my lawyers, Bob, and Jeffery" He said holding up his fists. "They negotiate well" he added.
Grant nodded. "I completely understand, and agree" He said.
"What?" I said.
"Sam you need to go with your Uncle" he said.
"Finally, someone who makes sense" Jacob said, seeming relieved that he didn't have to punch anyone in the face today.
"Keeping Samuel safe is my intention as well."
"Let me make the decision for myself" I finally spoke up to Jacob. He turned towards me, revealing the red vein that had popped out of his forehead. "Give me one weekend, let me discover for myself what's right for me. If I happen to decide that I want my life to be controlled by my over protective uncle, then it shall be."
Judging by the look, Jacob gave me, I could've left that last part out. He looked like he was ready to crush both me, and Grant to death, but thankfully he didn't, "Fine, but just for one weekend" he finally said.
I sighed relieved. "Great" I said, "Now let's go before you change your mind" I said to him, while walking towards the door.
Jacob didn't follow me immediately. Instead he turned to Grant, and spoke. "There will be no contact between you and him anymore, am I clear?" he said to him.
"Crystal" Grant answered.
He walked towards the door. "Come on let's go" he said to me.
Before he waled out all of our phones dinged. hesitantly we all checked to view a broadcast that was being automatically streamed. A man appeared revealing his masked face. I put the volume up on my phone, then listened to him speak.
"Hello citizens of New York City, I am pleased to finally be able to introduce myself as The Harmattan" he called himself. His voice had shifted from many different pitches, proving that he wanted to keep his identity secret. He had a black mask on his face, covering up everything, but the broken lower right half of his face. "I see you've escaped my wrath thanks to the help of your little friend." He said holding up the mask that I had been wearing. I must have forgotten to pick it up after Grant dropped it. "I don't like the idea of some suddenly brave hero stopping my attacks. As you might've already found, I am quite quick tempered. No need to worry, I have another solution to thoroughly destroy your city. If the man who owns this suit does not show himself in front of Grand Central station in four hours, then I will destroy the entire city in one horrific 'natural' disaster." He said evilly. "The clock is ticking"
Jacob turned to me, and spoke. "You have to go" he said to me.
I sighed, "I know" I said.
"Should I take you there?" he asked.
"I think I can manage on my own, ten times faster than your car."
"It's no Maserati, but it takes me places" he said.
I smiled, then got ready to run. "I just want you to know, just in case I don't come back that your son is an asshole" I said.
He laughed, "I know"
