My friend called from the living room as I entered the house once arriving back from the shops.
I quickly made my way to her in a panic, almost walking directly into the door frame, "what?! Is everything alright?"
"No, look!" She pointed at the tv. She was watching the news and on screen an old man was talking.
I stood beside the grey sofa where she sat, scrunching my eyebrows as I watched with my arms crossed over my chest.
"Unrest, in the wake of recent events has left us vulnerable. Every day Americans feel it. While we love heroes who put their lives in the line to defend Earth, we also need a hero to defend this country. We need a real person who embodies America's greatest values. We need someone to inspire us again,"
"Haley, I don't- what's this about?" I asked, turning to look down at her.
"Shh! Just keep watching."
"Someone who can be a symbol for all of us." The man on tv continued, "So, on behalf of the Department of Defence and our Commander-in-Chief, it is with great honour that we announce here today that the United States of America had a new hero."
"Oh my god." I muttered under my breathe as I sighed almost as in defeat.
"Join me in welcoming your new Captain America."
As a white guy in a Captain America suit walked out and waved at everyone on tv clapping, Haley looked up at me with a sorry look in her eyes as I stared at the screen.
"Is that what the offer you got the other day was about?" Haley asked after what felt like hours of silence but was really like five minutes.
"I think so." I nodded slowly, still looking at the now paused screen and the man it was paused on. "I need to find Sam and Bucky."
"Is that really a good idea? I mean, Bucky's your ex and hasn't been responding to your texts." Hayley stood from the sofa, following behind me as I went upstairs to my room.
"Me and Bucky ended on good terms." I told her, with a stern voice and slightly furrowed brows.
"You and Bucky ended because your friends all died."
"Hayley!" I raised my voice, quickly turning around from my wardrobe to look at her.
"Sorry. Sorry, I know, okay, you and Bucky sort of ended on good terms." She apologised, genuinely, knowing that she crossed a line.
"Sam and Bucky are gonna be just as pissed as I am, if not more, and they'll want to stop it. We'd make the best team."
"Fine, I'll see if I can find out where they might be." Hayley said, going off to her computer to 'track' them down.

"Okay, I have a thing I need to do first though." I told her before leaving the house again.
She had been known for hacking and tracking people, it's how we met. She hacked into my phone one day and then I went a put her in her place about and then we ended up using her to help with Ultron.
She's been my best friend ever since.

"John Walker?" I asked as I leant my body against the doorway of the locker room.
He turned around. I could now see his face. "Yes, and you are?" He asked with wide eyes.
"Eris Odindottir. I got offered a job on 'your side'." I briefly explained, pushing my body off the doorframe.
"Ah, right. Goddess, Thor and Loki's sister. I'm sorry for your loss." He said, gesturing with his hands. "All of them."
"Even Steve?"
"Especially Steve." He responded with a quick nod.
My eyes stayed on him for a moment, with neither of us saying anything, before they moved onto the unzipped black bag beside him in which I could see the Captain America suit.
I pointed at it, "you know, that suit. You can put it on and save the day, but that's not Captain America. The suit never made Captain America, Steve did."
"Steve did a great job at looking after this city, the country."
"I know he did. So you can put that suit on but you'll always be John Walker in a costume." And with that, I turned on my heels and left John Walker in the locker room.
꧁꧂
Hey, Bucky. How are you?
Have you seen that shits picking up lately?
New Captain America?
I didn't expect a reply but I felt like I needed to message him. I had a feeling he was gonna be the least pleased about John Walker, he was basically Steve's brother. The two were inseparable, and during the war I know it was probably hard for the both of them to be apart.
"Eris!" My head shot up from my phone at the sound of Hayley's voice.
"Yeah?" I called back as she came speeding into the room.
"There's a smuggling going down in Munich! You know that group of people, the Flag Smashers,"
"Really?" I questioned in disbelief and curiosity.
"Yes! So get your suit on and get your ass to Munich!" Hayley practically shouted at me, looking down at me as I sat on the couch.
When I didn't move, because I was thinking it over, Hayley grabbed my hand with both of hers and began trying to pull me to my feet. Once she managed to get me standing up, she ushered me upstairs to my room.
"Get. Your. Suit. On!"
She shut the door behind her and I saw her shadow stay the other side of the door and I heard her back slide down. I smiled at the thought of her sat there, waiting for me to get changed.

I opened up both doors to my wardrobe, taking out a black bag that hung at the end of the railing. Laying the bag on my bed carefully, I slowly began to unzip it before stopping and considering it. I hadn't worn this thing since Thanos. I haven't gone out and fought any bad guys. I couldn't bring myself to do so.
Taking one deep breath, in and out, I finished unzipping the bag, revealing the black and purple, tight outfit. I took it out from the bag and held it up by the hanger. It was a black suit with purple accents. Along with it was some leather ,black, fingerless gloves.
Once I had the outfit on, I pulled out the black boots I had always paired with it and slipped them on, tying the laces in double knots. I then tied my brown, straight hair up in a ponytail and made sure to tighten it.
I took another look in the mirror and ,quickly, the scene of Loki's lifeless body dropping to the floor, Clint's look of guilt, Tony's last words and Steve laying old and dying in a bed, all replayed in my mind. War flashbacks.
꧁꧂
I flew overhead, with my large, bird like wings either side of me, seeing two trucks driving down a fairly empty road. That was definitely them. The Flag Smashers. A society of people who preferred life during the blip.
I squinted my eyes, focusing on something, or rather a group of people all fighting, on top of the trucks. Just above them was a helicopter, with none other than John Walker hopping out of it to 'save the day' and his pal Lemar Hoskins.
As I flew closer, I managed to whip one of the Flag Smashers off the truck and he ended up holding onto the side of it so as not to fall. Unfortunately, he pulled himself back up with one arm which I found rather unusual. As I observed the others a little longer, I took note that all of the Flag Smashers were extra strong, faster even. I also recognised two of the people in the fight as Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
Again, I flew closer to the trucks, attempting to knock people over. It appeared that Bucky nor Sam had noticed me, too caught up in the fight. Neither had John or Lemar, which I wasn't complaining about, I'd rather go unnoticed by them.
Just as I turned myself around to face the trucks again, I saw Bucky fall between them, using his metal arm to grip the side of the truck so as not to hit the road. Although, it was close as he was basically lying under it. I also noticed one of the Flag Smashers follow him, and attempt to kick his arm so he'd fall.
When Bucky's metal arm was scratching along the road, I swooped between the two trucks, one of the drivers trying to squash me between them but I was quick enough that I could knock the Flag Smasher off and get out safely.
I then landed on top of the truck that John Walker was on, making a loud thud as I did. John Walker looked up at me, after managing to push a guy back who had held a firm grip on his shoulders. Lemar Hoskins soon joined us, the three of us soon becoming surrounded by Flag Smashers. For a while the three of us fought together, trying to defeat the Flag Smashers but it seemed almost impossible as they were extremely strong and fast, and could jump very high, but not quite fully impossible.
As one of the Flag Smashers grabbed John Walker from behind, keeping a grip around his shoulders which stopped him from retrieving the shield, Lemar Hoskins was then also held down by two of them. I quickly picked up the shield, throwing it at the ones by Lemar, moving closer and the using my shadow manipulation to form a weapon before I hit the it other one off the truck.
The shield then came back to me, flying back to my hand. I held it with a strong grip with my weapon in the other hand. John Walker was struggling against the guy who held him but I managed to get a clear shot and I threw the shield once more, getting the guy behind Walker. John then caught the shield just as it began to make its way back to me, making me huff in defeat.
"Thank you." John Walker said, nodding to me before quickly turning to face a Flag Smasher who charged at him.
I continued hitting Flag Smashers back with my weapon which was a sort of bo-staff with a sharp blade on the end. "I didn't do it because of you!" I called over the struggle of fighting.
"Then why did you do it?" He asked.
In the corner of my eye, I saw Bucky and Sam go rolling fastly through a field of grass and flowers. "I did it for them."
I then made the bo-staff disappear, and my wings came out again, lifting me into the air and away from the trucks, leaving John Walker and Lemar Hoskins to fend for themselves. I followed after Bucky and Sam's rolling, entwined bodies down the field, landing on my flat feet not too far from them.

My name is Alyssa Gray, and by the time you finish reading this, I'll be dead. ________________________________ A few warnings and things to note: -I've put up the tramatising content tag due to a lot of mentions on death, dying, illness, and a mother who tends to be rather cruel. I know that I take a perspective that many will strongly disagree with, and I'm okay with that. Just be warned that this isn't lighthearted stuff. This is real, and death is real, and this part streaches beyond the fiction into reality. -I'm going to say a minor spoiler, but I don't want it to take you unaware because it is something to be aware of. At one point, my MC attempts suicide and fails. It's a very violent scene and I will put up the gore tag after writing this, and it's also just really depressing. If this will be triggering, you need to be aware of this before you read it. -This is a christian book. It may go against some of your beliefs. I hope that you can read and comment anyway even if some of it does not sit well with you. Credits for the cover go to the user 'Media in Sanity'. Your help and assitance has meant so much to me, God bless you in your writing and your endevours. A proud member of WriTE. I've promised to finish this fiction and update it at least once a month. My schedule is very irregular, and I'm working on that, but I'm going to do everything I can to make sure that this book stays out there. I'm not ending it until it's done.
