: he was the only person you know that is the closest example to perfection.
it was in second grade when you've started to have a brief but intense infatuation with jimin. you remembered every single detail clear as a crystal. you were a new student in wales high academy, small arms wrapped around your mother's legs as you softly cried through her jeans.
you were crying because you don't want to be in a new school, you were happy with your old one since you've been quite fond with your playmates and the surroundings there.
your new classmates are probably confused as to why you were crying at that moment. did you broke your favorite toy? did your puppy died? you weren't quite sure of what their thoughts was seeing you for the first time and you were crying. but one kid wasn't giving you a weird and displeased look. rather, he was paying no attention at all while he tried to distract a girl in front of him while picking at her pigtails. it didn't bothered you that much, since you were still preoccupied about having no friends to play at all in your new school. after your mother and teacher finally calmed you down, you told them that you want to sit at the very back of the room.
at first your mother was unsure to your request since she doesn't want you to feel out of place, but she agreed anyway. as a kid, you solemnly ask something from your parents, toys or not. that's why it shocked her a little bit.
moving on, you felt like crying again when no one was actually sitting with you during recess. so to feel less lonely, you decided to eat at the playground of your school. you placed your snack at the newly mowed grass, happily satisfied that the big tree protected you from being exposed to the heat.
you were just minding your own business as you munched down to your sandwich, drinking your cartoned milk then and there when you heard a sound.
it made your fragile body tense in fear. being a kid, you've heard the story of big foot. but since you were curious with almost every single thing in this world, you tried to follow the sound.
it was humming.
your small feet carried you to the back of the big old tree.
there, you found someone who is much interesting than big foot.

it was the boy from your classroom who didn't payed attention earlier. his eyes were closed and his back was resting at the old tree while his arms were folded at his stomach as he hummed silently to a random song. you didn't quite figured out what he was humming to the thin air but the rhythm was familiar to you as you listened intently.
"creeping is a bad thing, you know" he spoke out of nowhere; eyes still closed.
at the back of your mind, you wanted to get your things and run because of the embarrassment. but he's the first one to have ever talked to you today, that's why you decided to stay.
"sorry" you muttered lowly.
his eyes flicked open and you swear to all of the storybooks you have read that he's the most handsomest prince. you even haven't met a real prince face to face but at that moment, as he smiled warmly at you with the sun glowing his youthful face, you felt like a princess who have just been saved by her lovely prince.
"its okay..." he trailed off, still comfortably laying his back at the big old tree "wait, are you new here?"
of course he doesn't know that he has a new classmate; he wasn't paying attention earlier.
"yes, were classmates too" he nodded knowingly and patted a spot next to him.
at first you were hesitant to sit down near him. but you did, after you got your food and lunchbox where you left it.
you took the spot next to him but tried not to make skin ship since you two have just met.
"you want some?" you offered him another pair of sandwich since your mother packed you two. he happily obliged and the two of you were silent as you munched down to your own food.
as soon as the both of you were finished (you even let him drink from your water bottle since you already have a cartoned milk) you were already feeling kind of keen to the boy, even though you still don't know what his name is.
"uhm...didn't you brought your snack?" you asked him as he sat crossed legs right in front of you. he was still at the shady part of the tree, though.
"i forgot it at the classroom. too tired to even go back there since i've already made my way here" he answered truthfully.

"oh, you eat here everyday? don't you have friends?" you asked him again.
"yup, but i do have friends. i just don't want to hang out with them every recess time, i guess" he shrugged "besides, nature is a much more better company than those noisy bastards-"
"hey!" you exclaimed, making him jump a little from his position "that's a bad word. don't you ever say that again"
he chuckled lightly which made your young heart flutter. your most favorite thing in the world are bananas but now, it has been replaced by seeing the still unknown boy happy. the way his eyes crinkled delightedly just makes you feel so...alive.
"okay" a small smile was plastered at his face "i promise not to swear ever again, if you tell me your name"
you blushed at his sudden words. he wants to know my name. you squealed at the back of your mind since it would be too weird if you say it out loud. "i'm areum kim, what about you? what's your name?"
"jimin park, at your service ms. kim" he took out his right hand for you to accept and shake.
you did, and the first ever skin ship with jimin park was the most memorable thing that could ever happen to you. you both have small hands but his were much bigger than yours, considering the fact that he's a boy.
"you're my first friend here" after the handshake, even though you don't really want it to end, you slightly frowned as you admitted the loneliness you have felt deep inside to jimin. you lowered your head as a few strands of your hair blocked your face. you wanted to cry, but you tried your hardest to compost yourself since you don't want jimin to think that you're weak.
"don't be sad..." he pushed the strands of your hair away from your face and lightly tucked it at your right ear. he put his hand at your chin and made you look at him straight in the face "you're the first person whom i don't find annoying here." his hand left your chin to rest at his side
"person...?" your heart crushed "am i not your friend?"
"you're not my friend..." your hands formed in a tight ball, the tears trying to escape from your eyes.
"you're my best friend, areum" your lips etched a big smile but it suddenly turned into a slight frown as you playfully punched his shoulder "i hate you! you should've told me straight away i'm your best friend! i almost cried!"
"ow" he jokingly hissed in pain as he rubbed his shoulder, the part of it that you have just punched "that didn't even hurt" he laughed, throwing his head back
"because i'm a girl! boys are strong!" you rolled your eyes at him annoyingly as he clutched his stomach "stop laughing" you whined
"fine, fine..." he cleared his throat. you held your pinky finger up directly at his face as soon as he was relieved from laughing "promise me that i'm just your one and only best friend, okay?"
"i promise" he locked his pinky finger with yours and you felt your heart flutter again.
"best friends forever?" you asked, pinky fingers still locked with each other.
"only girls say that" he said, face twisting awfully in grimace "let's just lock our pinky fingers as a sign of friendship"
"best friendship" you didn't cared if such word was not in the dictionary, you were still a little kid. thankfully, jimin didn't either.
"right" just as he said that, the bell rang. the both of you groaned as you unlock your pinky fingers with each other as he helped you fix your things and throw the remnants and garbage of the snack the both of you just ate.
as you held tightly at your lunchbox' holder, you happily walked side by side with your new friend-best friend jimin straight to your classroom.
at that time you were still unaware with the growing affection you have felt for him. and you hated it, because now you're suffering so badly because of him. you regretted talking to him in the first place, you regretted eating at the playground, you regretted following the calming tone of humming from the back of the big old tree, you regretted the day you have met jimin. because if only you tried your best to pleading your parents not to transfer to wales high academy, you might've been not hopelessly in love with jimin. you might've not ruined the two of you shared for so long. you might've been not sulking in your bed every night, crying your heart out at the realization that he wouldn't love you just as much as you love him.
