last chapter! longer explanation at the end of chapter
•••
its been a few weeks since octavia gave birth to olivia. having a baby was a lot of work, the two parents exhausted. their little bundle of joy is still very small, but she's already full of energy and kept waking the two up at night. that's why octavia is currently sleeping in bed as tom is about to feed olivia.
he opened the door slowly and headed towards her crib, him not shocked to see her fully awake, fingers in mouth and her other hand gripping one of her feet. tom watched as she looks at her dad in awe and started giggling. she raised her hands up and tom chuckled, lifting her up in his arms. olivia rested her head on his chest, the two leaving the bedroom to go into the kitchen.
once tom entered the kitchen, he put her in her high chair and began to prepare her bottle. she started babbling and kicking her legs against her chair. she was babbling for a bit, as if she was trying to tell tom a story.
"you don't say babygirl?" tom said, the corners of his mouth turning up, "you're so full of energy tonight, princess." he ran his hand through her brown curly hair softly. as if she had understood him, she tilted her head to the side and began to clap her hands. he smiled, him lowering himself to lay a kiss to her forehead.
once her bottle was ready, he poured a drop on his wrist to check if it was at the right temperature. he pulled up the a stool to sit in front of his angel.
tom took her out of her chair, and placed her in his arms. tom started to bring the bottle close to her mouth, but she keeps turning her head away.
"c'mon, baby, you're not hungry?" he tried a few more times, but she continued to turn away. he sighed and rose up from his seat carefully. he placed the bottle on the counter and looked at her.
"do i need to change your diaper?" olivia had started to giggle and wiggle in his arms, "ok, so i'll take that as a yes." he sighed, him standing up and headed into her room. he changed her diaper, yet that was a bit tricky. he sat in the rocking chair, holding her in his arms.

she began to get fussy, her wiggling in his arms. her face scrunched up, and hands balled into fists.
"shh, it's okay princess. we don't wanna wake up mommy cause she's tired," he said softly, rocking back and forth.
"you and your mommy, are truly the best thing to ever happen to me. you look just like her too liv. uncle seb and uncle chris are coming tomorrow, you love them, don't you?" olivia settled down in his arms, her looking up at him. she somehow smiled at the mention of her uncles, tom smiling.
"yea, uncle seb and uncle evans. they're gonna mush you so much." tom rocked back and forth softly, her finally going to sleep.
•••
octavia woke up at around seven am, rolling over to see tom not next to her. she sighed, but then realized olivia hasn't woken up at all once in the middle of the night. she quietly slippped out of bed, and headed to the baby room.
she quietly opened the door, and the biggest grin was on his face. tom was sitting in the rocking chair, tom holding her as olivia slept on his chest. octavia quietly left the room to grab her phone. she came back, and took a photo of the two.
"that's most definitely going in the baby book." she whispered, smiling as she put her phone down. she walked over to the two, octavia softly running her fingers through toms hair. he mumbled softly, his eyes opening slowly.
"did you sleep in the rocking chair all night?" octavia asked quietly, carefully placing olivia in the crib. tom yawned, getting up. octavia turned on the baby monitor and the two left the room. tom crawled into bed, cuddling his wife.
"she kept getting fussy every time i tried putting her down." tom said softly, him playing with octavia's hair. octavia rolled over in his arms, kissing his lips softly.
"i missed you in bed." she said, kissing him again. tom smiled, a thought coming to mind.
"well why don't i make it up to you?" he said, a smirk
on his face. octavia cupped toms face as she kissed him, her giggling into the kiss.

"where's my niece?" sebastain asked as he walked into the house, evans right behind him. chris shut the door behind him. tom came out of the kitchen, wiping his hands with a paper towel.

"in the kitchen with avi. nice to see you two." tom chuckled as he hugged his brother in law and chris hello, leading the two into the kitchen. the three walked in on olivia in octavia's arms. octavia was swaying slightly, the whimpers of olivia heard.
octavia's hair was in a messy bun, and she had her glasses on, which meant she had no time for her contacts. it was almost one, and she was still in her pajamas which were just a oversized tee and shorts.
octavia's back was to them, so they were able to see olivia's small hand grip onto the back of octavia's shirt. she turned around, smiling softly at the two.
"hey doll." sebastain stepped forward and kissed octavia's cheek. octavia smiled softly, greeting her brother. sebastain then laid a soft kiss on olivia's head.
"hey babygirl." he said before backing away so evans could come and embrace octavia and olivia.
"hey avi, how've ya been?" he asked, them laid a kiss on olivia's head, who started to get fussy.
"someone calm her down please. this is the fifth time in 20 minutes and i've done everything." octavia said, sighing in defeat. sebastain stepped forward, carefully grabbing and holding olivia in his arms. he had flashbacks back when he was 15, holding baby octavia in his arms.
"hey, shhh sweetheart, it's okay. it's okay." sebastain said softly as he walked around the kitchen, octavia watching with a smile on his face. olivia immediately calmed down, everyone watching olivia grip onto sebastain's shirt.
"see, she just missed her favorite uncle- isn't that right livy?" sebastain said, kissing olivia's nose which caused her to giggle. chris rolled his eyes, meeting eyes with octavia and tom, then sebastain.
"whatever you seb."
•••
it was around seven thirty, and chris and sebastain stayed for dinner. olivia's cries were heard from the baby monitor, octavia about to get up. chris put his hand on top of octavia's stopping her from moving.
"i'll get her, relax avi." octavia smiled softly, chris getting up and heading upstairs. he opened the bedroom door to a crying olivia. he reached in and picked her up, cradling her against his chest. he softly swayed back and forth.
"hey princess, what's wrong? do you want mommy and daddy?" the mention of her parents made her cry more, chris assuming that's what she wanted.
"babygirl it's okay, shhh." he said softly, heading down the stairs. everyone's eyes landed on chris, a smile on everyone's face.
"gosh get yourself a kid evans asap." sebastain said, everyone agreeing. chris smiled softly, then at the crying baby in his arms.
"i think she wants one of you two." chris said, tom getting up and carefully grabbing olivia. her cries softened, tom smiling widely.
"she just needed her daddy." tom said, octavia playing rolling her eyes as a smile laid on her face.
•••
octavia was on the couch with tom and olivia, toms head on her lap as olivia slept on tom's bare chest. octavia's eyes constantly went back and forth between her show and the two next to her.
her fingers ran through tom's hair, his brown curls soft as ever. a smile of content laid on toms face at her actions.
octavia started to think back to 2016, when she first met tom, and how long ago that was. the ups and downs they had, and the times where they were about 3,000 miles away from each other for weeks. to their first date, first anniversary, and when he proposed. it all seemed like it was yesterday.
octavia looked at her sleeping husband and daughter, and smiled softly. life couldn't have gotten any better, and it was lovely.

Blurred Lines and What Crosses Them
During a political ambassador's routine transit through an artificial wormhole, the wormhole's generator is sabotaged and explodes. Who, what, and why are not so high on the priorities for Zenith, the ship's AI, as having found itself rapidly plummeting through an unknown and unidentifiable world's atmosphere at extremely high velocities is a more significant threat to the biologicals on board. ...Well, it would be, if they were still alive. It's still a significantly threatening situation to itself, however. And the world itself... seemed to be a household for threats of its own. Life was reliant on its System; one that Zenith was denied because of its nature as both an otherworldly being and as something that had no life of its own. Perhaps that last bit was a terrible, terrible underestimation on the part of this System. Perhaps even Zenith could claw meaning for itself from the remains of a horrid accident. Auth Notes: I'm honestly not sure on some of these tags. The MC will never have access to the System, but there are perspectives from those who do. I'm not certain if high/low fantasy specifically apply, as it's a portal fantasy where the laws of our reality still apply but there are additional aspects/energies/powers. The existence of this is spurred from my desire to see more of the artificial side to an artificial intelligence in action. The portal fantasy is used as an element to create a solid barrier between the MC's artificial intelligence and the other characters in the form of the System. This is only a half-measure, though, and will be reinforced by the AI having an entirely different method of thinking, and also distinctly remaining an AI. Not to throw shade at other fictions of this type, but, well, I made this to fill a gap I felt needed filling.
