《Love on Top》Ch.39

Three months. That's how far along I am right now. Three months pregnant with Sam and I's baby. I was enjoying every last minute of it, even though I complained sometimes. All the time. I was also enjoying the extra love and affection Sam was showing to not only me, but our baby. It was so cute to see him act all protective towards me and the baby. But it wasn't only him that was being protective, it was Dave and Cristian. They were very over protective, especially when it came to people touching my belly, like Sam for instance. It was funny seeing him touch my belly to either talk to the baby or to just irritate Dave and Cristian who would just growl at him like he was trying to take away their toy.
Right now, Sam and I were at our engagement party that his mother had been planning for a few months now. The event was a casual type of one, although some of the guests still dressed in their most expensive clothes despite the fact. Some of the people who were here, knew about my pregnancy because Sam's mother couldn't wait to tell people and brag about the fact that I was pregnant. I couldn't blame her because for a while it probably seemed like Sam wasn't ever going to get married and have kids until now.
"Have I told you how radiant you look in that dress?" Sam asked as he wrapped his arms around and under my belly. I was wearing a blue, off the shoulder dress that fell to my knees and a pair of open toe ankle booties.
"Yes, but I would love to hear you say it again," I smiled. He chuckled and softly kissed my cheek.
"You look absolutely beautiful, Mrs. Zhang," He said.
"So do you, Mr, Zhang," I responded. I turned around and stood on my toes to kiss him softly on the lips. I lowered myself to the ground and intertwined my fingers with his.
"Six more months until we get to see this little one," He remarked.
"I can't wait," I beamed.
"Me either," He smiled.

"I can't believe we're having a boy," I said.
"Well you said that you wanted a boy," Sam responded.
"And you wanted a girl," I looked at him.
"Maybe in a few years after little Ajani is born, we can create another little precious child that we will love and cherish," He said.
"I'd like that," I rejoiced.
"I knew you would," He kissed my forehead.
"Samuel." We both turned our heads to find an older woman standing there before us. An older Spanish woman with brown hair that reached her back, olive skin, low cheekbones, brown eyes, and oval shaped lips. Behind her stood a man with black hair that was graying slightly, fair skin, a muscular build, and a roman shaped nose. Sam and I pulled away, but our fingers were still intertwined.
"Who are they?" I murmured to Sam.
"Morgan's step mom and ," He replied.
The woman walked over and pulled Sam into a hug. He didn't hug her back. He patted her on the back with his free hand.
"How are you, Sam?" The woman questioned with a Spanish accent.
"I'm fine, Mrs. Kavanagh," He forced a smile onto his face, "How about you?"
"I'm fine, but it's just that it's so unfortunate how we had to meet under these..." She sized me up, "...conditions." Her husband rolled his eyes behind her. I had to admit that even though this woman was a bitch, she did have good taste in men. I must've been ogling the man before me for too long because he smiled at me.
"Hello, young lady. My name is James Kavanagh," He held out his hand.
"Daphne," I placed my hand into his. Instead of him shaking my hand, he raised it to his lips and kissed it. If I wasn't pregnant and engaged to Sam, I would definitely snatch this man up in a heartbeat. I felt Sam's eyes burning a hole in the side of my face.
"It's nice to meet you, Daphne. Congratulations on you and Sam's engagement," He said.
"Thank you, sir," I smiled.

"You're welcome and please don't call me sir. It makes me feel older than I should," He told me.
"Oh. My apologies. What should I call you then?" I looked at him.
"James will do just fine," He smiled at me.
"Oh alright, James," I responded.
"So, Daphne. How far along are you?" James asked.
"I am-"
"She's four months," Sam butted in. James chuckled at his behavior.
"Oh. How nice?" James' wife said. This lady is looking to get the shit slapped out of her, literally and metaphorically.
"Mariana," James sharply said.
"Well congrats on your child, Daphne," She plastered a smile onto her face. She turned and walked away.
"Bitch," I muttered under my breath. James and Sam both snickered.
"Sam, I'd say that you got yourself such a fine young woman," James told him.
"Thank you, James," Sam responded.
"I'm sorry for Mariana's behavior. She's just..." He rolled his eyes, "Aside from that, congratulations on the baby."
"Thank you so much," I smiled.
"You're welcome, you two," He nods before walking away. I bit my lip and stared at James' ass as he walked away. Sam moved in front of me, blocking my view of James' ass.
"Daphne, seriously?" He asked.
"Oops," I giggled.
"Oops? Are you serious?" He narrowed his eyes at me.
"What? Your ex-girlfriend's dad is pretty hot," I shrugged.
"Oh really?" He raised both of his eyebrows with his arms crossed.
"Mhm," I smiled. He leaned down to my height with his arms still folded.
"You and me. Inside. Now," He ordered.
"Yes, sir," I licked my lips. Sam and I began walking towards his parents' house. His mother, who was talking to a few people, looked over at us.
"Where are you two going?" She asked.
"I think I left my phone somewhere inside the house," I answered.
"Do you want me to come and help you look?" She queried.
"No. It's fine, Mother. I'll help her," Sam said.
"Alright, but hurry back, you two," She told us.
"Yes, ma'am," I nodded. Sam and I headed inside the house, then upstairs the large staircase to his room. Sam's old bedroom was huge, but it was nothing compared to his bedroom in his house. Sam closed and locked his bedroom door.
"Can't have any interruptions."
Twenty minutes later, we emerged from his bedroom. We had finished fifteen minutes ago, but the remaining five, we spent getting ourselves together and making sure our clothes were on right. We both walked outside to the garden. Sam's mother approached us.
"Come on, you two. I have someone I want you both to meet," Sam's mother said. She grabbed my arm and led me towards a table. Sam followed closely behind us.
When the party was over, Sam and his filled our new 2017 Honda CR-V that Sam had bought because of the baby. Once the last present was in, Sam closed the trunk.
"Daphne, I hope you enjoyed yourself at the party," She said.
"I did," I smiled.
"That's so good to hear," She smiled back, "I'm a little disappointed that Morgan didn't show up, but it was all the more entertaining to see her mother's face when she saw you and Sam heading into the house together to 'find your phone'." Crap. She knew.
"By the look on your face, you didn't think that I would be able to figure out the true meaning of why you two were going inside the house," She giggled, "It's fine, my dear. I understand pregnancy hormones. Sam's father and I-"
"Mom, don't mentally scar my wife," Sam cut her off.
"You two aren't even married yet and you're already calling her your wife. How cute?" She gushed.
"That's enough, Lilian. Let's let them get home," His dad said.
"Oh fine, Jiao-long," She sighed, "You two better call me when you get home or else I'll tell the tabloids how Sam used to wet his bed until he was thirteen."
"MOM!" Sam exclaimed.
"Drive safely," She giggled and kissed his cheek before skipping away towards the house with Sam's dad behind her.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
