《King's Corp》Chapter 19

It's moments like this where everything feels just too surreal. Jungkook wouldn't have dreamt of it in the past but to have Kim Taehyung, one of the most powerful men in the world to now be visiting his sick mother with him in hospital is...odd, to say the least.
"This is the room," Jungkook whispers as he points to a door. He slowly pulls open the door and steps in before looking back to see his boss.
"I can wait outside if you feel uncomfortable," the ravenette says, inspecting the boy's expression.
Jungkook shakes his head and smiles a little. "No, y-you can come."
Taehyung nods and carefully enters the room. He exhales a ragged breath at the strong smell of disinfectant that greets him along with the freezing air that brushes past his skin. He pulls his coat closer to his body and decides to stand at the corner of the room, opting to watch the small boy as he trots over to his mother.
"Momma," Jungkook calls out to the unconscious woman, smiling a little. "This is my boss, Mr Kim Taehyung."
Taehyung, not knowing what to do, awkwardly waves to the sleeping woman. Jungkook chuckles. "He brought me here because I was so worried about you. He can be really nice sometimes, right?" the younger says, smiling cheekily.
Taehyung scoffs playfully, "I'm nice all the time, Bun."
Jungkook looks down at his mother, still smiling before he brushes her hair aside. "Yeah, he is," he whispers.
Taehyung takes a seat on one of the chairs and he silently watches Jungkook as he aids to his mother. The small boy pulls her blanket up and then leans down to place a kiss on her cheek. "Get well soon, Momma."
Taehyung looks down at his fingers as he finds himself smiling, although the small curve of his lips tremble as his mind reels back to a painful memory.
"MAMA!" Taehyung screams out as he drops to his knees next to his mother's hospital bed. "Mama co-come back," he hiccups, gripping onto the blanket that covers his mother's face.
"T-Tae, we have to go now- w-we," Namjoon cries out as he tries to pull his brother back.
"H-Hyung," the younger boy sobs. "N-No, I don't want to le-leave! Please mama, come back."
The doctor sighs sympathetically and places a hand on the boy's shoulder. "I-I'm sorry for your loss kid, I really am. But I'm afraid you can't be in here longer, you must leave..."
Taehyung flays his arms as his brother gently pulls him back. He screams, trying to break free from the grip holding him back. He grips onto the door and continues to sob, trying to stall his departure. He doesn't want to leave.
"P-Please Tae," Namjoon cries as he tries to pull his brother out from the door-way. "W-We have to g-go."
"WHY?!" Taehyung grabs onto the door frame and stares at his mother's covered corpse. His eyes shake along with his voice as he speaks, "WHY DID YOU HAVE TO KILL YOURSELF?"
Taehyung startles back to reality at the sound of a high-pitched squeal. "Hyung," Seonjin screams as he runs to his brother, wide eyed. "Who's that?"
Taehyung looks down at the small finger being pointed to him and waves at the smaller boy standing behind Jungkook.
Seonjin gasps. "Hyung," he whispers loudly to Jungkook. "There's a scary man sitting over there!"
Taehyung raises his brows. "Scary?"

Jungkook flushes a bright red and pushes his brother away from him. "S-Seonjin! Where are your manners! T-This is my boss. Please be polite and introduce yourself." He says while awkwardly laughing.
Seonjin frowns and then peeks over at the dark eyed man staring down at him. "Hi. My name is-is Seonjin and...and I like ice cream."
Taehyung smiles down at the younger. "Really? What type of ice cream do you like?"
The tiny boy brightens up at the question. "O-Oh, I like...um strawberry and...and vanilla and chocolate!"
"Oh, and what about mint choc chip? Your brother seems to love that flavour so what about you?"
Seonjin makes a face. "Blegh, I-I hate it! Hyung eats a lot and a lot and a lot of it but it is not yummy."
Taehyung chuckles before he smirks up at Jungkook. "See Bun, even your baby brother has good taste. What happened to you?"
Jungkook scowls and turns to his brother. "Anyways Seonjin, where's Bri-"
"Oh, Jungkook," Jungkook looks towards the door to see a familiar blonde-haired woman.
"Bri! Hey, I feel like I haven't seen you in ages," the boy says while walking up to the girl and hugging her.
She smiles. "Yeah, we didn't catch you this morning because you left early for work."
Jungkook nods, "oh, yeah. And -uh- talking about work. This...this is my boss. Mr Kim Taehyung," he says while gesturing towards the man behind them.
Brianna turns around and widens her eyes. "Oh...you're the CEO of King's Corps. Nice to meet you, sir" she says with a shy smile.
Taehyung nods expressionlessly, causing the girl to shift uncomfortably on her feet.
"So, you and Jungkook seem pretty close? How long have you known each other?" Taehyung asks after a moment, tone sounding uninterested but eyes stating otherwise.
The girl smiles over at Jungkook, "Me and Kook? Well yeah, we've known each other for a bit now, a few years maybe? I'm his mother's caretaker so I see him often."
Taehyung gives her a tight-lipped smile and Brianna awkwardly smiles back. Jungkook frowns at the tense atmosphere and clears his throat in an attempt to subdue it.
"Oh and I was actually going to call you but since you're here, it works out..." Brianna starts while turning back around to face the brunette. "Is it okay if I take the night of today...I...I kinda have something important to do."
Jungkook tilts his head and widens his eyes when he notices the girl's red cheeks. "You're going on a date aren't you?!"
The blonde blushes harder and ducks her head to hide her scarlet shaded cheeks. "It's not exactly a date...I mean... well..."
Jungkook giggles. "Well, whatever you say. And yeah, of course you can go. I wouldn't want to hold you back from meeting your secret lover," he wiggles his brows teasingly.
She slaps the boy's arm, "Shut up, you're annoying."
Jungkook laughs and waves at the girl. "Well, I'll catch you later then. Have fun."
Taehyung, his features now a lot more relaxed, lifts his hand up to bid the girl goodbye as she leaves the room. "Have fun with your boyfriend."
The girl looks back and at the two men and blushes, "he's not..uh..b-bye," she says hurriedly before leaving.
"Nice gal," Taehyung says with a nod a few moments after her departure.
Jungkook frowns, "you looked like you wanted to bite her head off when you first spoke to her."

Taehyung looks at Jungkook and smirks. "Now why would I ever want to do that," he chuckles while brushing away a strand of hair from Jungkook's face.
Jungkook smiles and then looks over at his brother. "Seonnie, hyung's going to take care of you tonight okay?"
Seonnie nods distractedly as he plays with his small toy car. Jungkook looks over at his mother and sighs while running a hand through his hair. "Um, it's getting pretty late so you can go now, Mr Kim. Thank you so much for doing this, really. "
Taehyung watches as Jungkook furrows his eyebrows while worriedly staring at the sleeping woman. The ravenette flicks his wrist up and looks down at his watch. 7:30 pm.
"Come on, Seonnie," he suddenly says, gaining the attention of both Seonjin and Jungkook. "Let's go have some fun."
Jungkook looks up at his boss, taken aback. "Sir, what are you doing?"
Taehyung walks over to the child and picks him up before turning back to face Jungkook with a small smile. "Stay with your mum for a bit, Bun. I'll take care of him."
"But..." the brunette starts, looking worried.
Taehyung shakes his head, continuing to smile reassuringly. "Trust me, I'm great with kids."
~
"Rockabye baby...fuck I forgot the lyrics- shit I can't swea- uhhh.."
Seonjin lifts his head from Taehyung's shoulder and blinks at him. "Hyung, why are you putting me to sleep?"
Taehyung awkwardly scratches his nape. "Urm...is that not what I'm supposed to do?"
The small boy shakes his head. "No. I don't like sleeping."
Taehyung sighs. "Okay -umm-, what do you like instead of sleeping then?"
Seonjin shrugs. "I like ice cream and... and sometimes dogs."
Taehyung chuckles, "sometimes?"
Seonjin nods, eyes big. "You know, big dogs go woof really loudly. Once a big dog say woof to me and I got scared and cry. Only for 5 seconds though because Hyung said big boys don't cry. Seonnie is 5 now so he is a big boy."
Taehyung blinks. "Ahh, ok. Um, when I was 6, my mum bought me a pet goldfish and I accidentally stepped on it. It died. I also cried."
Seonjin blinks. "for how long?"
Taehyung looks down at the boy and laughs before patting his head. "I dunno. Probably a few hours. Anyways, wanna go get ice cream?"
The small boy lights up. "YES! Seonnie love ice cream a lot a lot a lot!"
~
Jungkook's eyes widen upon seeing his mother's eyes flicker open. "Momma!" He whispers.
She blinks and stares at the wall across from her bed. "Momma, it's me. Kookie," he cries out desperately.
The woman doesn't respond and she continues to blankly stare at the wall, not even realising the other presence in the room. Jungkook gulps and slowly grabs onto his mother's hands, staring at her as his eyes well up with tears. She turns her head at the contact and looks down at him, her expression not changing as she stares at her son like staring at a stranger.
Jungkook exhales a shaky breath and drops his head onto the bed. "I'm Kookie. Your son." He whispers into the blanket.
She doesn't respond. And it's at that very moment that Jungkook comes to the heartbreaking realisation that she probably never will.
He looks up and forces a smile onto his tear-filled face. "You taught me this word momma. Luh-luh-love." He articulates, voice trembling as he speaks."C-Can you s-say it?"
His hopeful eyes dim when there's only a silent stare as a response. He gulps down the lump forming in his throat and reaches his hand up to cup his mother's face. "I-It's okay, Momma. You've s-said it a lot before so its o-okay if you don't s-say it anymore."
A small sob breaks past his lips and he brings his mother's hand towards his own face. "I...I.." he pauses before smiling at her nostalgically.
"Kookie loves you."
~
"You can go back now, I can walk myself out, really," Taehyung says while staring at the boy who looks down at his feet.
Jungkook shakes his head as they both exit through the double doors of the hospital entrance. Taehyung clicks his tongue when they step outside upon seeing the pouring rain.
"It's raining," the ravenette says, feeling grateful for the small shelter above their heads.
Jungkook finally looks up from his feet to stare at his surroundings. A small smile flits onto his face upon seeing the starlit scenery blurred by the fierce downpour. He's always found rain calming, how the sound of splattering water drops hum a soft melody that has the power to placate even a heavy heart.
He sniffles and looks up at Taehyung, smiling softly. "I want to thank you again, sir. I...I really needed this."
Taehyung frowns upon seeing the younger's red-rimmed eyes. "You cried."
Jungkook chuckles gently while rubbing at his eyes, "I always cry."
Taehyung continues to worriedly stare at the younger for a moment before he sighs and pulls the boy into an embrace. "I know this is hard, Bun. It's always hard to see those who we love being sick or in pain. But you need to remember that your mother is still here right now, here with you. You don't have to grieve over past memories when you can make new ones to cherish." He pats the boy's fluffy hair in a soothing manner as they continue to share their warmth within the tight hug.
Jungkook pulls his head back slightly and looks up at his bosses face, feeling awed by his wise words and lulled by his soothing smile. Standing there with the older's arms wrapped around him, he feels something so foreign, so alien to what he's used to feeling. A feeling of safety, of comfort. A feeling so intense that it feels like his breath has been stolen and replaced by only the heat of the darked-eyed man looking down at him.
Jungkook doesn't exactly know what compels him to do it, for his head was racing and his mind was screaming and chaos was the puppet-master of his being; He doesn't really know what took over him when he stood on his tippie toes and let his lips crash onto Taehyung's. He doesn't know why he did it, what compelled him to do it, but all he knows is that kissing him, caressing his bosses lips with his own in such a tender exchange, being held in his warm arms, it all just feels... right. And nothing in his tainted head or his bruised heart can tell him otherwise.
Taehyung is taken aback by the boy's sudden action and for a moment he stands still, trying to process if his mind is altering reality or if reality is really Jungkook's soft lips moving against his own. He comes to his senses fast enough though, not wanting to miss a second of the younger's affection. He places his hand on the boy's jaw, cupping it, and kisses him back with ease, letting their lips dance into heated ecstasy.
And just like that they kiss. Kiss as the stars twinkle in the sky, as the wind whistles a fine tune and as the rain crashes onto the ground around them. Every detail is simply just a blurred background to their picture perfect embrace.
And that's exactly what it is. Picture perfect.
~
"Mr Kim," the blonde smiles, entering the office room. The black haired man seated on the chair looks up at her before gesturing for her to take a seat.
"How was your day?" she asks while straightening out her skirt.
The man sighs before leaning over the desk. "This is no time for pleasantries, Ms Kimberely, I called you in here today regarding a concern I have."
The woman frowns. "Oh? Is this about the system information I sent over last night?"
"No, not quite," Taehyung says while he rubs his lower lip with his finger. "It's actually regarding your treatment towards a certain employee."
The blonde freezes before she chuckles awkwardly. "W-Who do you mean?"
Taehyung smirks tauntingly. "Oh, you don't know?"
She laughs slightly and looks down at her lap. "N-No, of course not. I never treated anyone badly here."
"When did I say you treated someone badly?"
She looks up, surprised. "W-Well, it was implied."
"It was? Hmm, well I guess so," his tone is eerily light hearted as he speaks. It is this very ease to his voice that the woman finds unnerving. From her years knowing the man, she finds Kim Taehyung to be like a gentle sea. Deceivingly calm...yet the threat lies beneath deep waters.
"I know of your ill-treatment towards Jungkook, Ms Kimberely."
She widens her eyes. "W-What, I have never."
Taehyung sighs and leans back on his chair while rubbing his temples. "Sabotaging his work documents? Calling him names? Do you think I was blind to all that? You should know that I like to keep a close eye on all my employees."
"U-Uh, t-that's not true. Jungkook exaggerated all of it. I didn't say anything to him," she stutters out nervously.
Taehyung chuckles humourlessly. "What makes you think Jungkook told me those things?"
The woman widens her eyes even further and gulps before ducking her head. She sighs, "S-Sir, I-I...I'm sorry. I said and did some things to him that I shouldn't have. I-I apologise for that."
Taehyung looks up at her with a raised brow as he twirls a pen around his fingers. "I shouldn't be the one you apologise to, Ms Kimberely. But regardless of an apology, I've already made a decision. I don't want such behaviour in my workplace, it's simply childish. And your recent slack towards your work just gives me further reason to do this."
Taehyung picks up a document and slides it over to her. "You're fired, Ms Kim. Please pack your work place and leave by tomorrow."
A silences ensues for a moment as the woman stares down at the file in disbelief. "M-Mr Kim... y-you can't do this to me. I-I..."
"Leave, Ms Kim," the man says, finality in his tone.
She shakes her head before dropping her head into her hands. "W-Why? I-I worked f-for you for so many year and now y-you want to kick me o-out over this? First you fired me from being your secretary and now you want me to stop w-working here completely?"
Taehyung exhales, looking aggravated as he leans back in his chair. "You know why you're not my secretary anymore."
"Because I liked you?! Because I caught feelings? Is that it? I worked hard for you, sir. And now you act like you don't even remember my name at times," she cries.
"Exactly Ms Kim. You caught feelings. You know that I can't have that. But after you stopped being my secretary, you barely tried at work. You let your skills go to waste over some silly feelings."
She wipes her eyes and chuckles, muttering, "Silly feelings." After a few moments she looks back up and takes a small breath. "Please sir. Give me one more chance. I...this job means a lot to me, I need it. I'll apologise to Jungkook and start working harder, I promise. J-Just...please."
Taehyung rubs his temples before looking up. "No, I can't-"
"Please," she cries, looking up at him desperately.
Taehyung stares at her for a second, contemplating. "Fine. You can continue to work here, but I'm demoting you."
She looks up with hopeful eyes. "T-That's okay si-"
"An intern. You can work as an intern and work your way up again or as I asked earlier, you can leave."
She's stares at him for a moment before looking back down at her lap.
"I'll do it," she whispers.
Taehyung raises his brows.
"I'll work as an intern. As long as it means I can stay here."
~
"Here, sir." Jungkook smiles as he places down the man's coffee on his desk.
Taehyung tiredly looks up from his computer and smirks upon seeing the beverage. "Didn't ask for one."
"I heard you say you were tired this morning. You had a meeting so I couldn't give it to you earlier."
Taehyung sighs and picks up the coffee, cradling the warm cup between his palms. "Yeah, I am tired. Talking to people drains my energy."
Jungkook smiles softly, letting his faded dimple peek from the corner of his cheek. "Then should I stop talking, sir?"
Taehyung looks up at the boy and chuckles. He grabs the younger's wrist and pulls him down onto his lap before digging his nose into the crevice of his neck. "Not you, bun," he says, voice muffled. Taehyung relaxes at the soothing scent of vanilla that comes from the younger and he pecks the boy's neck.
Jungkook blushes slightly but then frowns. "-Um- do you...do you do this with a lot of your employees, sir?"
Taehyung pushes his head back and looks at the boy, taken aback by the question. "What?" He laughs. "What makes you think that?"
Jungkook pauses and looks away. "O-Oh, nothing."

Decompose!
Dear diary. When you read stories about some people missing and returning after years of absence claiming they were living in another world, your first reaction is to scoff and dismiss a story as a tall tale, right? I know I did. All the time. Until it happened to me and I no longer did. That day was today. Some god of thunder smote me. If it were Chris Hemsworth, I wouldn't mind but it was some barbaric Hitite god that abaondned Earth some four millennia ago. Yes, what can I say? I love the seventh art. I have more hours watching movies than any other activity, including sleep. What? Do you think I'm exaggerating? Maybe I am. I'll really miss hollywood the most. And my biggest regret is that I never got to visit the holy city of cinema. I did not come to another world to be a hero even though there was hints that they hoped I'd save it. I did not come with overpowered abilities able to, dunno, leap tall castles in a single bound, faster than a speeding crossbow bolt, be more powerful than a eight-horse carriage, the bounds. No. After the asshole god that murdered me brought me to his world, he gave me some boons from his discount bin and "The Power of my Soul (tm)". Forgive my french, I hope you understand I am rather upset at dying. And he somehow decided that my power is to recycle stuff. How awesome is that? Not much at first, I must admit. At least I got all my camping stuff and equipment with me. There's no lycra in the other world. I'll make it someday, but that day is not today. So here I am. In another world, in the middle of nowhere. I'm no heroine. As the song goes, I'm your basic average girl. And I'm assumed to be here to save the world. But almost everything can stop me, because I'm not named Kim. Wish me luck, diary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This novel is going have the following features: slow-paced slice-of-life No GameLit / LitRPG elements. Movie references. Sandra likes the seventh art. Journal / diary style crafting (includes chemistry, engineering and metallurgy) low magic technological advancement (for Sandra, at least. She is not against sharing though) personal relations clash of perception between the modern and ancient customs. bits of tension, fighting, and plot here and there. I won't repeat myself though. Once she crafts a good batch of soap, for example, she'll just note, "I crafted soap again." Once it is estabilished how she obtains compound X, compound X2 that is obtainable from the same process will also just be mentioned. I'll try to be as realistic as I can with the crafting, chemistry, and technology. Cover: Public Domain Image by StockSnap from Pixabay. No attribution required but we do it anyway.
