《The Midnight Man》Chapter 14 - Hospital

"Sam, Sam, can you hear me?" A woman's voice called out to Sam.
Sam slowly opened his eyes. The sun shone brightly through the curtains as he looked around to figure out what was happening. Sam jolted up in his bed when he realised. He was in a hospital. On one side of his bed was a worried nurse and on the other was a doctor.
"How do you feel, Sam?" The nurse asked, examining Sam. She checked his eyes, ears, nose and his throat.
"Where's Colby?" Sam asked, trying to get out of bed. He nearly fell. The nurse caught him before he could hit the floor. The doctor helped the nurse get Sam back into bed. Sam looked like an Egyptian mummy.
"You need to rest, Sam." The doctor said sternly.
"Where's Colby?" Sam repeated, looking around.
The nurse exchanged a worried look with the doctor.
The nurse sat on a chair beside Sam's bed and took a deep breath. She couldn't tell Sam the truth right now. He needed time to heal before he knew his best friend and girlfriend were dead.
"We have many Colbys in this hospital. Do you know his last name?" She stalled.
"Colby Brock," Sam replied quickly.
The nurse picked up her clipboard with a list of all the other patients. She soon found Colby on the list.
"Well, he came here at 3:31 and he," The nurse paused for a second, "is still here." She said.
"Can I talk to him?" Sam asked.
"No, not yet. You need to rest. I'll leave you alone now." Said the nurse, getting out of her chair. She left the room and closed the door behind her, leaving Sam alone to get some rest. Sam waited a few minutes before she was gone then he let out a sigh of relief. Colby was alive! Or so Sam thought.

Sam smiled, taking in the fresh scent of lemon and anti-bacterial wipes. He was safe now. Sam took the blankets off and examined his bandages. The fire had burned him almost to a crisp, but he was going to be ok. Sam finally relaxed. It was all over now. Sam took a deep breath as he snuggled under his warm blankets and soon fell asleep.
Sam sat up gasping for breath. Sweat poured down his body as looked around the dark room. It was night now. Sam's breathing slowed as he realised it was just a bad dream. Suddenly, Sam saw something move in the corner of his eye. On the table was a small candle and behind it was a tall, dark shadow. Sam screamed at the top of his lungs as everything came flooding back. The memories of Colby burning, Katrina's blood all over his body, being locked in the cupboard and everything that had happened.
Sam cried as he curled up in a ball, alone on his bed. He was face to face with The Midnight Man, The thing that killed all of his friends and destroyed his life in just a few hours. Sam had so much anger inside of him. All he wanted was revenge. Sam was determined to defeat The Midnight Man once and for all. Now it was between Sam and The Midnight Man, no one else. But could a human defeat a demon? They were about to find out...
