Lottie sat on the grass of the beautiful estate with her legs tucked under her and her dress spread out around her while Amy sketched her. A peace has settled over them, they're friends again. "Lottie , when are you and Laurie going back to your grandfather?" Lottie plays with the grass gripping it between her fingers and scrunching her hand "Very soon." Amy sighs "you've said that a dozen times in the past month." Lottie doesn't take her eyes off of the grass between her right hand " Short answers save trouble." Amy goes back to her drawing " He expects you, so why don't you do it?" Lottie just sighs she is getting fed up with the questions as to why she has not left but of course she can not tell Amy why. Lottie doesn't want to leave her she doesn't want to go and miss seeing her perfectly tanned face or her gorgeous brown eyes she doesn't want to miss Amy's company or miss the faces she makes when she is working on her art, she doesn't want to leave because she is so terrified of the thought that when she goes Amy will marry Fred Vaughn and she will be forgotten. "Natural depravity, I suppose." Amy starts shading in her drawing "Natural indolence, you mean." Lottie looked up from her hand as she let go of the grass " I'll only plague him if I go, so I might as well stay and plague you a little longer." Lottie jumps up and play fights with her, making her laugh, Amy grabs her, and holds her as Lottie laughs " You can bare it. In fact, I think it agrees with you." Amy let's go of her and goes back to drawing but sighs looking at Lottie " What are you doing?" Lottie smiles at her "Looking at you." "No I mean what do you intend. To do." Lottie giggled " Oh you mean with life?" "Yes." "I've been writing an opera, I'd be the central figure." Amy cut her off "That's a waste of time." Lottie sighed "what would you have me do?" "Go back and work for your grandfather and make something of yourself." Lottie stands up and looks at her as Amy looks back at her "Here" Lottie comes around to look at the sketch and sees another sketch beside it from years ago, young and full of happinesses. She picks it up and traces her hand over it " When did you do this one?" Amy smiles at her "it was the day at the beach, when I met Fred for the first time." The mention of Fred changed the air. Lottie is the first to speak " When is he back?" "A week or two he is on business in London." Lottie gets very nervous all of a sudden, and her words rush out " Don't marry him." "Why?" "You know why..... please tell me you know why please tell me you feel the same way Amy god I didn't want to tell you like this but I couldn't help from the day I walked into your house and met you for the first time my heart never stopped its fast and loud thumping I thought it might come through my chest, Amy you have no idea what you have done to me i..I feel so nervous around you and the butterflies in my stomach won't go away and haven't since the minute you said hello to me and I I thought that it was just a silly childish thing but it's never gone away and I don't want it to go away any more I just want you I want to love you truly oh god Amy I love you and have for such a long time please Amy ." Lottie takes her hand but Amy pulls it away harshly making Lottie tear up. "No Lottie , that's mean, it's just mean of you....." "Why?" " I can't it's not right and you telling me this now is mean when you know I am happy with him when I am ready to get married to him it is mean of you because the only thing I can do is push you away and it is hard it is so very hard when I have spent my whole life loving you." Amy left leaving Lottie crying to herself yes Amy had confessed she loves her but Lottie had lost her and she had wished now that she hadn't told her to not marry him it simply slipped out and she just couldn't stop.

Lottie walked back to where she was staring with Laurie and knocked on the door "Lottie what is wrong?" "She hates me Laurie she hates me and there is nothing I can do about it I told her not to marry him Laurie I told her not to marry him and how I loved her god why did I why did I tell her not to marry him how..... how could I be so stupid how could I be so very stupid, I love her Laurie I love her so much and she uhhh I can't believe I'm so stupid!" Lottie fell into her brothers arms crying harder repeating the word stupid over and over again. It broke Laurie's heart to see her like this to see her so heartbroken to see no spark in her eyes she looked very much broken. Lottie was very much broken.

A Merchants Tale
Legends rise. Country’s fall. Empires wage war. But what supports these great powers, allowing them to function as a single organism. Is it the common man, Farmers and Millers forming the backbone of the land? The Soldiers and Guards keeping public order? The Wives and Widows supporting from the side-lines? The Nobles from their seats of power? Or the elusive Sorcerers who wield power untold? And what maggots crawl in this great creature, all trying to get a piece of its slowly decaying flesh. The gangs of the Underworld hidden in the shadows? The Bandits and Deserters hiding at the edges, ready to pounce on any weakness? Witches and Warlocks working their dark art? Or other Nations clawing at their neighbour’s, salivating over the riches they stand to gain from another’s demise. There is one group that belongs to neither group. They thrive on others misfortune and bring with them salvation and destruction in equal measure. They can raise a kingdom up or tear it down screaming and kicking. These are the merchants, the lifeblood of kingdoms, because what is the one thing above all else men crave. Is it Love? Power? Destruction? All these things can be acquired with one simple thing. Wealth. Wealth is the true power behind the world. Wealth can buy army’s, strangle kingdoms, and turn even the most devout man from his faith. Merchants come in many forms, shapes and sized, some gaudy, bleeding the people for all their worth, some tricky, preferring to make contracts and debts to trap men. And some desperate, doing all they can to sell even the most worthless of junk. This is a story of one merchant who goes against all a merchant stands for. He works not for profit but for some unseen goal, a prophesy aeons old. He comes and goes like a ghost, bringing with him hope and victory. All pray for his arrival to spare them from despair. But what about when he doesn’t show? What about the people he doesn’t save? For this man is no angel, no saint sent to save the masses. His goal was never to deliver hope. It merely isn’t time for their destruction yet. For nothing is eternal. And all things must end. But what comes after? Quick disclaimer in response to the review I got, this is my first story and somewhat of an experiment for me, hopefully my writing will get better the more I practice. Thanks for any helpful advice :)
