i began to speak as aksel and henry would ask me questions about myself, trying to get to know me better. occasionally alex would comment on something and make me laugh, but i wish he spoke more.
"yeah, new york is definitely a lot different than california, for sure. but i like it here, its feels like home, kinda." i said, taking a sip of my drink, looking over at alex who sat across from me, whose gaze i caught. we exchanged a soft smile, getting little butterflies in my stomach as we looked in each others eyes, "well these next few days are gonna be fucking epic. right aksel?" alex said with a smirk. "i cannot believe you actually just said epic in front of our guest." aksel replied which made us all burst into laughter.
i could tell that these next few days were gonna be possibly the best days of my life. i was planning to stay here in anaheim with ani for a week more, and i wasn't sure if the rest of her group would be staying too, but ill see.
"are you guys done? i kinda wanna nap before we all go and meet a bunch of people." ani said with a little laugh. we all nodded in agreement, and got up to leave. as we walked back, alex and i stayed a bit behind everyone else as we began to talk.
-alexs pov-
"so, do you watch the reddit crew, like brandon's videos?" i asked her as we walked back to the hotel. i wasn't sure how she met ani, but i was very happy that ani convinced her to go. "yeah, i do," she said, "i watch your guys' videos all the time, but mainly ani's because she's my best friend, y'know?" she told me with a smile. i looked over at her and returned the small smile.

"mhm, she talks about you to us sometimes. good things though, of course. she tells us you guys are really close." i said to her, and she nodded. "we are, she's been my best friend for a while but I've never met her in person. she's like my internet best friend." she continued to tell me. i loved to hear her talk, how she would explain things or the sound of her voice filling my ears to break the silence.
once we got back to the hotel, we went up the elevator and to our floor. "hey, uh y/n, are you rooming with anyone?" i asked, biting the inside of my lip nervously, i didn't want her to think i was being weird or anything. "I'm not, actually." she said, laughing it off. "i came here by myself." she finished, and locked her gaze with mine. "you know, if you wanted, I'm not rooming with anyone either. we could share a room together if like, you didn't wanna be alone." i continue to tell her, seeing her face light up with a sweet smile as i spoke to her.
she nodded, "that would be amazing, alex." i heard her say, as i smiled back to her. "alright, sounds great. my room is the one next to anis, and ill leave the door open so you can put all your stuff in." i said as we began to walk down the hall to our rooms. "okay, ill be there soon." she said as she walked into her room, and i continued walking to mine.
she seems like a great girl, and hopefully over the next few days i get to learn more about her. i don't know what aksel and henry think about her though, so I'm probably gonna have to ask them.

i got into my room and closed the door, trying to contain my smile as i got my stuff and put it back in my suitcase, and then made my way back to alex's room.
i knocked gently before i entered and opened the door, "hey, its just me." i told him, my voice soft as i spoke to him. i closed the door behind me and walked in. "oh, hey y/n, uh i just realized i only have one fucking bed," he said with a laugh, "so i can like, sleep on the sofa thing if you want." he told me. i immediately felt bad. "alex, I'm not gonna have you sleep on the couch in your own hotel room." i told him, a bit of a laugh slipping in my words as i spoke as i felt a smile tug at my lips. "i really appreciate you inviting me to stay, but you need to keep your own bed." i finished.
"no, y/n, wait!" alex said eagerly as i turned to walk out, feeling his grip on my hand pull me back to face him. "i don't want you sleeping alone, okay? this hotel is kinda sketchy," he began, "please, we can figure something out." he said.
-alexs pov
i really wanted her to stay.
i tried to convince her that the hotel were staying in isn't safe and that she should stay with me just incase.
"oh, so you think because I'm a woman that i won't be safe on my own?" i heard her say. "no, no, no! y/n, thats not what I'm saying at ALL." i told her. "alex, you're so gullible. i was just fucking with you." she said with that adorable laugh of hers following. "oh, jesus you fucking had me there." i told her with a sigh of relief, laughing along with her.
"so, what do you say?' i asked her once again, with a sense of hope in my words.
"of course ill stay here, alex. i don't wanna sleep alone, of course. you know, with the hotel being scary and all." she said, a small smirk tugging at her lips as she finished her sentence. a big smile grew on my face and i let my grip on her hand get a little tighter.
"thats amazing." i said, gazing into her eyes, almost getting lost in them as i had to snap myself out of it. "okay so, you can go ahead and put your stuff wherever, and ill just take the couch? or if you want-" i said before she cut me off.
"alex, ill just set my stuff down first and we can figure out who's sleeping where later tonight, okay?" i heard her say. i let that stupid smile of mine grow back on my face as i heard her words.
"you're too precious, y/n."

How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
