You wouldn't have been able to tell from looking at them, one had a scowl on their face the other with a frown, but these two were undeniably in their comfort zone if not in a happy place, despite it being 2am. Dean was carefree and relaxed, a little excited even. Castiel was calm and at ease, even though he was about to tell Dean something very personal and close to him.
The two sat cross-legged on Castiel's couch, fingers wrapped around glasses and slight smiles apparent on both faces. Slight being the key word. Castiel's was more from nerves than a genuine smile. Dean's was probably because he was drunk.
"Why do I have to go first?" He protested, looking over at Cas.
"You suggested it, it's only fair." He answered, but he was only half telling the truth. He didn't want Dean to back out of the deal just to laugh at Castiel's stupid problems. He couldn't trust this guy yet, every other time he'd met him he'd been a complete ass, Castiel was giving him a chance to redeem himself in a way.
Dean nodded and closed his eyes, his grip tightening on his drink, the heat fogging up the sides of the cold glass. "Well, I have a younger brother." He started and Castiel leant back into the couch, his head resting upon his arm.
"His name is Sam." He uttered as if it were a sacred word. "He's going to law school. He's leaving me Cas, he's leaving me in this god awful world alone and he's going to forget about me and everything I've done for him." Dean's voice started slurring again as he spilled all the words out, probably not thinking twice as he spoke each one, letting his feelings free-fall out. "He told me last night that he's leaving me and I went to a bar and had a 'few drinks', which turned out to be shots, which turned out to be more than a few and here I am telling you all of this, why am I telling you this? My brother is leaving me, I shouldn't be telling you this-"

"Hey." Castiel soothed, reaching out an arm to touch Dean's shaking hand. Dean stopped abruptly and his shoulders fell, his eyes watering up. "It's okay." He stared at Castiel with a grateful look then dropped his head, taking the glass from his hand and putting it on the coffee table in front of him. His head was still hung when he pulled his hand back and wiped under his eyes with the cuff of his sleeve.
"Your turn." He whispered almost inaudibly. Castiel took a deep breath and nodded slightly, preparing himself.
"I lost my job today, well yesterday-in the last 12 hours. I was binge watching a series..." He paused trying to collect himself. Dean looked up at Castiel with a confused expression.
"That's it?" He hmphed. "And to think I told you all of that-"
"That job was my life, you know how long it took me to find a job that would accept me for me? Hmm?" He spat, suddenly mad. It wasn't Dean's fault; he hadn't even told him the full story yet, but he was angry all the same and nothing could stop him from releasing all his pent up anger on him. Dean's eyes widened and he shrugged, hands up in innocence.
"6 months, Dean. 6 months, because we're living in a society where being gay is different, and not a good different a bad different. We're surrounded by ignorant homophobics that won't hire me because I like guys" -by this point Castiel had risen to his feet, pacing along the floorboards of his messy apartment, but right now that messy apartment was the only thing he had- "6 months of living in a friend's flat, paying a discounted rent with my parent's money. 6 months of declining invitations to go anywhere because I was broke and couldn't supply for myself. 6 months of that until I finally found a job that accepted me and now it's turning into a freaking real estate office and I'm back to square one."

He stopped pacing when Dean suddenly lept up and stumbled over beside him, both of their eyes widened with surprise.
"I'm sorry I said that. I understand-" He was cut off by both Castiel's ear-splitting shriek and his arm being thrown into Dean's chest as he pushed Dean against the wall. His arm was against Dean's throat holding him there, Cas's eyes dark with anger.
"Don't you dare!" He shouted, oblivious to the fact he was waking up neighbours. "Don't you dare, you prick! Don't you tell me you understand when you probably hit up every person you see with a short skirt and high enough heels!" He gritted his teeth closing his fist around a bundle of Dean's shirt. "You have no idea what it's like to be gay living in an un-accepting society. You have no idea!" He breathed out and loosened his grip on his clothes, backing away a few steps, shakily as if not quite believing he'd just done that.
Dean cleared his throat and straightened out his clothes before stumbling back over to the couch to sit down. Castiel was still standing there, his eyes staring at the place he'd pushed Dean against the wall, when he suddenly heard laughter. His head snapped to Dean and found him chuckling, his hands fumbling with his fingers.
"What!?" He snapped, appalled.
"Did you even consider that I actually do understand. I don't hit on you just for the fun of it you know. I'm bisexual." He spoke, his voice soft and not at all mad at what Castiel had just done.
"You... you what?"
"I'm bisexual. A few years back I was in the same position you're in. I really do understand Cas, I was tryna help. What did you think I was doing?" He questioned.
Castiel slumped and shuffled back over to the couch letting his exhausted body flop onto it. "I thought you were just being an ass." He mumbled into the cushion.
Dean smiled again, brushing hair out of Castiel's watery blue eyes. "I may have flirted a little out of hand, but tomorrow when I'm sober I'll prove I'm not just making this up. Take you out to dinner or something." He grinned widely which made Castiel doubt any of the words coming out of his mouth.
"You're drunk, you won't even remember this once you're back in your apartment." He uttered, sitting up and crossing his arms over his chest.
"I promise Castiel. I understand what you're going through and I'll make one night easier by buying you dinner."
"Tell you what." He spoke, a small smile growing on his tired face. "If you remember this tomorrow it's a date, if you can't remember this conversation we'll go back to living unknowingly as neighbours. Deal?" Castiel said, having faith that he would forget everything. He just wanted him to leave, he needed sleep. Dean was an asshole, there was no way he'd take him out to something as nice as dinner. A strip club would be the classiest place this guy had ever been to.
"Okay." Dean sighed. "Okay fine, but you really 'ought to stop making deals you think you can get out of." He grinned. Castiel shook his head, his smile never altering. This guy was drunk off his ass, he wouldn't remember anything in the morning. Castiel was confident about it.

A blue marble floated in the unending void. On that marble, billions went about their lives, unaware that somewhere else, something had changed. Some requirement was met, and suddenly, a new type of energy saturated the universe. A mother closed her car's door and lifted a bag of groceries in an arm before vanishing into nothingness. Across the world, a teenager disappeared mid-word from a conversation with friends. In eastern America, Captain Octavius J. Asher of the US Army vanished from a mountain trail with no witnesses. People all over the Earth disappeared simultaneously. Such a thing would normally cause mass panic across the globe were it not for the fact that there wasn't a single person left on the globe to panic. Congratulations! Your universe has joined the System. Note: I wanted to read another litrpg apocalypse novel but couldn't find one. Thus, I decided to write one. The MC will be strong for a human but insignificant on a cosmic scale. No destroying worlds with a spell on chapter 25 in this novel. He will face challenges and be forced to make hard decisions. This serial now on hiatus for the time being :( Please rate and review. Constructive criticism is welcome!
