You kept walking and saw several other lights starting to flicker in the distance

Y/n: I guess that's when things start to turn sour...

Chara: "ENTRY NUMBER 5: I've done it. Using the blueprints, I've extracted from the human SOULs, I believe this is what gives their SOULs the strength to persist after death. The will to keep living... The resolve to change fate. Let's call this power...

Y/n: "Determination..."

Chara: Yes...

You continue walking and found a vending machine right next to a door. You try to open the door to no avail, the place doesn't have enough power to open this door, so you buy some chips instead

Chara: Hey, Y/n, can you read what's in this paper here?

There's a note on the ground... You can't make it all out.

Y/n: "Elevator... Lost power... Enter the center door..."

Chara: Is that all you could read?

Y/n: Yeah, sorry...

You look at the door again and see another TV with something written on it

Y/n: "POWER ROOM"

Chara: That makes sense, but it's locked...

Y/n: Let's unlock it then, let's power the power room!

You see a giant door with dark red details on it, but you noticed it didn't have energy too

Chara: There's another hall to the left, let's check there, maybe there's the exit or something...

You both walk towards the left hallway and found more information about the SOULs

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 6: ASGORE asked everyone outside the city for monsters that had "fallen down". Their bodies came in today. They're still comatose... And soon, they'll all turn into dust. But what happens if I inject determination into them? If their SOULS persists after they perish, then... Freedom might be closer than we all thought."

Chara: That's...

Y/n: Creepy...

Chara: Yeah... And... Wait... Is that a morgue?

She points to three operating tables with sinks next to it

You got closer and saw another TV

Chara: okay then... Oh... "ENTRY NUMBER 9: Things aren't going well. None of the bodies have turned into dust, so I can't get the SOULs. I told the families that I would give them the dust back for the funerals. People are starting to ask me what's happening. What do I do?"

Y/n: What did you do Alphys?

You rest your hand in one of the operating tables and your hand almost stuck to it

You go to the nearest sink to wash your hands. You turned on the sink. But what started to come out was not water, it was some kind of white slime. You try to reach it but it starts to glitch out. You look at the thing and it multiplies, now three... Things draw near... It looks like... Some amalgam of monsters, you try to push it away, but it glitches again and makes an "ERROR" sound

Chara: It sounded... Technological?

Y/n: THE PHONE!

You take out your cell phone. You can hear voices through the receiver...!

Things: COME JOIN THE FUN!

They approach you and start to stick to you like goo

Y/n: NO WAY!

Things: That's a shame...

It doesn't seem to care anymore, they slide out of the place leaving a gooey Y/n and a red key in the sink, you took it and places in you keychain

Y/n: What are those...?

Chara: Maybe those who fallen down?

Y/n: What have they become...?

You and Chara talk while you both enter the room right next to the sinks

Chara: What happened to them?

Y/n: I don't know...

You step into another note on the ground

Y/n: "drain... dropped it..."

Chara: What?

Y/n: That's all I could read...

Chara starts to observe a red slot in the wall that looked like a red eye

Chara: That key you took...

You insert the key, it fits perfectly into the slot!

Chara: Maybe that door opened?

Y/n: Which one?

Chara: The one with red ornaments into it?

Y/n: Let's check it

You start to dash towards the door and you look at the one next to the vending machine, it has one glowing red spot now, but there are three others that aren't as shiny, so you start to walk towards the red door which opens it as soon as you walk into it

Chara: Look, another entry!

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 12...

Chara: Where are the other ones?

Y/n: " Nothing is happening. I don't know what to do. I'll just keep injecting everything with "determination". I want this to work"

Chara: The best way to solve a problem...

Y/n: THROW MORE MONEY INTO IT!

Chara: I won't ask where you got that from

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 13: one of the bodies opened its eyes."

Chara: Can we leave now...? PLEASE?

Y/n: Yes, but... We have to turn the power on...

You walk towards the next room and saw a lot of beds on it, you look at all of them and noticed that under the sheets of one of the beds has something, you check it, and there is a yellow key in it, you take it and out in your keychain, after it, you lay in one of the beds to rest a while, you face the walls and close your eyes, after some seconds, you feel the sheets being pulled to cover you

Y/n: Thanks, Chara, but I don't plan on sleeping here

Chara: Y/n... It wasn't me...

You shot your eyes open and jump out of the bed as fast as you can

Y/n: WE HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE!

You dash up the room and find another of the entries

Chara: WAIT! let's read, we have to understand this!

Y/n: Fine... "ENTRY NUMBER 14: Everyone that had fallen down... Has woken up. They're all walking around and talking like nothing is wrong. I thought they were goners...?"

Chara: Okay, so she found out how to bring monsters back to life, hooray!

Y/n: So... What are those amalgams?

Chara: Oh... Well..

Y/n: Yeah...

You enter the door next to the entry log, you see a long corridor to the left and the right, and another entry log

Chara: "ENTRY NUMBER 15: Seems like this research was a dead end... But at least we got a happy ending out of it...? I sent the SOULs back to Asgore, returned the vessel to his garden... And I called all of the families and told them everyone's alive. I'll send everyone back tomorrow :)"

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 16: no No NO NO NO NO"

Chara: I don't think that's good...

Y/n: No...

You said entering the door next to it and seeing a bathtub with something wiggling in it

Chara: Oh no...

You slowly walk to it, VERY SLOWLY, and the thing started to wiggle even faster until you opened the curtains and found... A green key laying in the bathtub

Chara: WHAT. WAS. THAT?

You just shrug and pick up the key, putting it into your keychain. After that, you run out of the place so fast that you entered another room without noticing, you could barely see anything too, it was too foggy, but you found another entry log

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 11: now that Mettaton's made it big, he never talks to me anymore... Except to ask when I'm going to finish his body. But I'm afraid if I finish his body, he won't need me anymore... Then we'll never be friends ever again... Not to mention, every time I work on it, I just get really sweaty..."

It leans its dropping, amorphous body on you... You pet the Amalgamate. It starts to generate a Stage I Happiness Froth. You pet decisively. The amalgamate seems to be satisfied by all this, you pet it again and walk away

Y/n: Guess they ain't bad, just lost

You kept walking and found a weird shape machine, it looked like a goat skull, it had an empty pit below it but had a door right next to it, so you decided to check it before checking the machine. Entering the door you found another note, next to a TV

Y/n: "Under... sheets..."

Chara: The key you found it

You put the key into its place and it instantly starts to glow, next to the TV there is another entry log

Chara: "ENTRY NUMBER 4: I've been researching humans to see if I can find any info about their SOULS. I ended up snooping around the castle... And found these weird tapes. I don't feel like Asgore's watched them... I don't think he should"

You check the tapes, none of them had any video, only sound. The first one, Toriel was about to be a mom, the second one seemed like a kid was talking to its friend, could be Asriel and Chara. The third one was the same kids talking about a pie accident that made Asgore sick. The fourth one seemed like Asriel was afraid of a plan that he and Chara had, he said he went get the flowers. And the last one, Chara was barely conscious, Asriel, and Asgore were talking to her, encouraging her to wake up, but in the end, Asriel said about getting more six souls...

Chara: I... I...

Y/n: I get it... We don't need to talk about it now...

You kept walking and found a save point when you touch it, it formed another one of the amalgams, it looked like a shyrine, Aaron, and another monster, so you hum a familiar tune. It's body shakes... After it, you flex your arm, and its muscles started to shake... But soon after it, you just let it be. It seems to remember something. It said to you it felt this before and it melted away

Y/n: Okay...

You walked near the machine and read it

Y/n: "DT EXTRACTION MACHINE. STATUS: INACTIVE"

You look at the machine and felt an uneasy presence below it but you shook it off. After it, you went left to the other room and found several refrigerators and more entry logs

Chara: "ENTRY NUMBER 19: The families keep calling me to ask when everyone is coming home. What am I supposed to say? I don't even answer the phone anymore"

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 20: Asgore left me five messages today. Four are about everyone being angry, one about this cute teacup he found that looks like me. Thanks, Asgore."

You see one of the refrigerators shaking, but when you open it, it's empty

Y/n: Huh...

Chara: "ENTRY NUMBER 21: I spend all my time at the garbage dump now. It's my element"

Y/n: That's why...

You walk away, towards a door, and one of the refrigerators turn into an amalgam... It's so cold... You told a bad pun about snow. Her expression starts to shift

Amalgamate: Hahaha... I... Remember...

You tell another bad pun, her expression changes more

Amalgamate: haha... Thank... You...

You told another bad pun. She's completely calmed down. She smiles and vanishes, leaving a blue key where she was. You took the key and entered the door, on it, you found another paper that all you could read was "Curtain..." So you put the green key in its place. After it, you walk back to the bedroom remembering that you missed one room. After reaching it, you noticed that it was a corridor full of mirrors and golden flowers, and more entry logs

Chara: "ENTRY NUMBER 7: We'll need a vessel to wield the monster SOULs when the time comes. After all, a monster cannot absorb the SOULs of the other monsters. Just as a human cannot absorb a human SOUL... So then... What about something that's neither human nor monster?"

Y/n: Wait...

Chara: Yes...

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 10: experiments on the vessel are a failure. It doesn't seem to be any different from the control cases. Whatever. They're a hassle to work with anyway. The seeds just stick to you, and it won't let go..."

Reaper Bird seems to remember something.. It seems placed... It shrinks itself out of existence. You slowly walk towards the door and find a note on the ground, all you could read was "Cold" so you place the key on its place and walk away, you walk back to the door and noticed that all the lights in it were now shining. You enter the door and looked like another elevator, but it didn't have power as well, so you kept walking, you found a couple of screens, but they were turned off, so you kept walking until you noticed a door. You entered it and found an empty room with a lonely machine at the end of it, the machine had a little heart in the middle. You turn it on and all the amalgams start to come towards you, until...

Alphys: Hey! Stop!!!

Alphys comes running to your rescue

Alphys: I got you guys some food, okay!?

All the amalgams run happily out of the room

Alphys: Sorry about that... They kinda get sassy when they don't get fed on time. I think they smelled the potato chips you had, and...

Y/n: Yeah, I forgot to eat it...

Alphys: Anyway! The power went out, and I've been trying to turn it back on! But it seems like you were one step ahead of me.

Y/n: At least we can leave this place now

Alphys: This was probably a big inconvenience for you... B-but I appreciate that you came here to back me up! As I said, I was afraid I might... Not come back... But that's not because of these guys or anything! I was just worried I would be too afraid... To tell the truth... That I might run away, or do something... Cowardly... Uh... I... I suppose I own you an explanation

Y/n: Okay...

Alphys: As you probably know, Asgore asked me to study the nature of SOULs. During my research, I isolated a power I called "determination". I injected it into dying monsters so their SOULs would last after death. But the experiment failed. You see, unlike humans', monsters' bodies don't have enough... Physical matter to take those concentrations of "determination". Their bodies started to melt, and lost what physicality they had. Pretty soon, all of the test subjects had melted together into... Those. Seeing them like this, I knew... I couldn't tell their families about it. I couldn't tell anyone about it. No matter how much everyone was asking me. And I was too afraid to do any more work, knowing... Everything I'd done so far had been such a horrific failure... But now. Now, I've changed my mind about all this. I'm going to tell everyone what I've done... It's going to be hard. Being honest... Believing in myself... I'm sure there will be times where I'll struggle. I'm sure there will be times where I screw up again. But knowing, deep down that I have friends to fall back on... I know it'll be a lot easier to start on my own. Thank you.

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 8: I've chosen a candidate, I haven't told Asgore yet, because I want to surprise him with it... In the center of his garden, there's something special. The first golden flower, that grew before all the others. The flower from the outside world. It appeared just before the Queen left. I wonder... What happens when something without a SOUL gains the will to live?"

Y/n: As...riel...

Y/n: "ENTRY NUMBER 18: The flower's gone."

You kept slowly inching your way towards the elevator when you fell weakly into the center of it you close your eyes because you almost couldn't handle that feeling, it felt like you almost had lost your will to live, but you held on to it when suddenly, the elevator starts going up on its own. After a while, you hear a crash sound and look up to see the doors of the elevator shut down with vines when you suddenly pass out on the ground.
