《Jade *COMPLETED*》Chapter 9

Jade POV
"So what do you exactly want to know?" I asked as I tried to sit patiently without flipping out again.
It has been over five hours since my family and the pack found out about me being a mermaid. Of course when I arrived at the beach I immediately dived in and swam for the Moon Pool. I stayed there for a few hours to cool down.
I returned back home to be met with an immediate hug from Jake. I was quite surprised by this and that he kept apologising, when in reality it should be me apologising to him. I was then led into the house and sat down on the couch with Jake on my left and Paul on my right.
"Everything," Embry said with a complete look of fascination shining in his warm brown eyes. Aww, he looks like a child on Christmas. "How did you become a mermaid?"
"On an island near Gold Coast," I answered. "It was after my swimming practice when me and my friend went on a boat trip, which led to the fuel running out so we peddled to the island. Of course there was no internet connection there whatsoever, so we had to walk up to high ground. Somewhere in the middle of the of the jungle, my friend Cleo fell into a cave, which led to me and the other girls going after her. We got stuck in the cave and basically around midnight, I'm guessing now cause my phone run out of battery, the Moon made the pool in the cave become like a jacuzzi which led to us becoming into mermaids after touching any liquid after ten seconds. Oh, and we have powers."
Once I finished, I took a deep breath and waited for the outbursts or practically anything, but to my surprise, nothing happened. I looked around and saw the looks of astonishment and wonder.

"So, there are more of you?" Jared asked making me nod. "How many more?"
"Well there is me," I said in a duh tone, "there is Rikki Chadwick, Emma Gilbert and Cleo Sertori. We also met a former mermaid from the 50s. She and her friends were mermaids but they gave it all up for normal lives."
"You can give your tail and powers up?" Sam asked making me nod. "How?"
"The Moon Pool," I replied. "It was the Moon that gave us this ability, and it is the Moon that can take it away."
"Is that why you were acting so weird during the full Moon a few nights ago?" Emily asked making me nod.
"If any of us look at a full Moon, then it's like us getting possessed. We will do everything that the Moon commands. And because I saw the a full Moon a few nights ago, it led me to finding a similar Moon Pool on an island, which gave me a new ability."
"Can we see your powers?" Paul asked with his deep voice next to me. I nodded and twisted my hand, pointing it at the glass full of water on the table, making it turn into a jelly-like substance. "Wow!"
"I can do a lot more, but not here," I said making everyone nod. "Any more questions?"
"Can you change with any liquid touching you?" Jared asked. I nodded in response.
"But not blood," I replied. "There are also a few liquids that a friend of mine tested out on me, and some didn't turn me."
Silence overtook the place as I waited for anything to happen, for someone to say something. When I remembered something. "Is there a reason why you call yourselves a pack?"

I saw everyone tense while looking at Paul. I turned to look at him and he sighed. "Do you remember the Quileute legends?" I nodded in response. "Well they are all true. Me, your brother, Jared, Embry, Sam and the Clearwater's can shapeshift into wolves."
I took in the information. I already had a feeling that they could cause I overheard their conversation about imprints, which led me to researching a lot of things. "Can you show me?"
Everyone nodded eagerly and took my outside. I watched in wonder as they all started shaking with anger and soon larger than bears, were a pack of wolves. Sam was a giant black wolf, Jared was a giant brown wolf, Embry was a giant grey wolf, Jake was a russet wolf with similar height to Sam's wolf, and Paul was a stunning silver wolf.
"Wow!" I said as I stepped closer to Paul's wolf carefully. He lowered himself down as I came closer. I slowly reached out and run my hand through his fur. "You're beautiful. All of you."
I heard Dad and Emily chuckle behind me. "Come Jade. Let's give them some privacy."
I nodded at his words, before kissing Paul's wolf snout. I then turned around and went back inside.
What a day.

Many Minded
Synopsis: Issa Pyxis, Spacer orphan and illegal heretic, graduated from living on the streets to running with a gang years ago, but now it looks like that’s all going to change. Her inheritance, more specifically who—or what—she is, is catching up with her, and on a planet with the Emperor’s inquisitors slinking around in every shadow, nowhere is safe and no one can be trusted. What will she do? A cyberpunk story about identity, loneliness, covert infiltration, evil dystopias, and much more! Features: - Cyborgs and cyberpunk galore - This is indented to be somewhat “rational” and “hard” Sci-Fi story - Original Fiction however parts of my worldbuilding are inspired by other Sci-Fi stories (duh) Rationale: The future is cool, AIs are kickass, and questions about consciousness are simultaneously existential and yet unanswered. To me, this story is a vehicle for exploring these topics, and also, I wanted to write a story where the protagonist was unafraid of themselves and where their self is more like a git-repo than a meat computer. Disclaimer: This story primarily takes place in what we’d describe as a “cyberpunk dystopia” with some extra technocracy, autocracy, and religious fervor thrown into the mix, so there will be some “grittiness” in this story. Caveat emptor. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character and other characters in my story can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way they view the world isn’t always objective truth (if such a thing even exists) nor do their views and opinions necessarily reflect the views of me, the author.
