"i'm pregnant." madelyn slipped.
"i'm sorry." she whispered with tears in her eyes, turning around and headed for the hospital doors.
alex ran after her, running in front of her.
"hey, we'll figure it out. it'll be okay."
"no, it won't. we're both interns, we can't raise a baby."
"people do it all the time."
"people who have stable, well paying jobs and have the time to raise one."
"we can do this, madelyn. trust me."
"but that's the thing, alex, i can't. not after today. i can't."
"just please don't do anything stupid. promise."
madelyn nodded, wiping the tears falling down her face.
"okay. i promise."

"meredith? i'm home." madelyn said, closing the door behind her.
"hey madelyn. great to have you back."
madelyn let out a small laugh.
"thanks. great to be back. hey mer, i have to tell you something."
"you're scaring me, madelyn. what happened?"
madelyn guided meredith to the living room, sitting her down on the couch.
"i'm pregnant."
"oh, my god! you're kidding!" meredith squealed.
"i'm not. i found out yesterday. izzie and alex are the only ones that know."
"izzie? how come she knew before me?"
"she was the one that made me take the test."
"how far along are you?"
"i'm two weeks."
"i'm happy for you, madelyn."
madelyn smiled softly,
"thanks mer. i appreciate it. now, i'm going to head to bed, i'm exhausted."
"okay. goodnight mads."
"night mer."
💙💙💙
"i'll go this morning mer. don't worry."
"are you sure? i don't wanna leave you to do it alone."
"you got enough on your plate already. i got it. plus, i haven't seen her in a while."
"thanks mads. i love you."
"love you too. now, go to work. i'll see you later."
"see ya."
madelyn watched as her sister grabbed her bag and walked out the door. madelyn sighed when her phone started to go off. she looked to see the call was-yet again-from alex.

madelyn declined the call. it had been a few weeks since madelyn told alex she was pregnant, and he wouldn't leave her alone.
she had moved back into her home after the break up, which she still wasn't over. it didn't help that he kept calling her every minute of the day.
madelyn checked the time, seeing it was time to leave. she got up the the kitchen chair she was sitting in, grabbing her own bag and headed out the door.

"the lawyer has been managing her estate with a limited power of attorney, but your mother's alzheimer's is advancing. so, while she is still lucid enough to consent, she needs to sign everything over to you." the nurse explained.
"me?" madelyn repeated.she looked over to her mother before looking back at the nurse.
"look, i haven't slept in 48 hours. i have surgery and i'm missing rounds for this. are you sure there isn't anybody here, or the attorney? i mean, do i really have to handle this?" madelyn complained.
"we're talking about her estate, finances, medical care. you really want to leave her life in someone else's hands? she's your mother."
madelyn groaned, putting her head in her hands.
💙💙💙
"i wish i could hold a heart." george envied as him, madelyn, and christina watched burke preform a surgery while meredith held the heart.
"a monkey could hold a heart." christina shot back.
"what crawled up your ass this morning?" madelyn joked.
"you're mad burke didn't ask you." george taunted.
"george, i need more ice and chips." izzie said, walking into the gallery.
"who else did you invite?" george asked.
"we said the list was jocks only, surgery, trauma, plastics. who else?" christina scolded.
"just some people from peds."
"you invited the preschoolers to meredith's house. next thing you'll say that you invited the shrinks."
"hey, my house too." madelyn interjected.

"she invited mental defects. this party is d.o.a."said christina.
"meredith thinks this is going to be a small, meet-your-boyfriend cocktail thing. did you clear this with her?"
"no, but i cleared it with madelyn." said izzie.
"that is true. this party's gonna be epic!" madelyn cheered.
"you have to clear it with meredith, izzie." george whined.
"i will. promise." said izzie.
"madelyn, any insight as to what meredith is gonna say?" george asked.
"yeah, she'll probably not be too happy about it. but that doesn't matter, you got me guys and i'm totally down for a party. i'll deal with meredith."
"the both of you own the house." george reminded.
"sure, sure, but i'm the one that went to the meeting this morning. she ain't got nothing on me."
"meeting, what meeting?" george asked.
"nothing. none of your business. go back to watching your surgery." madelyn defended.
"why are you wasting the only weekend your boyfriend is in town on a big party? is he bad in bed?" christina asked izzie.
izzie let out a scoff,
"no. i just want him to meet some of my friends."
"right. 60 geeks in scrubs are your friends. bad sex, sucks for you." christina teased, leaving the gallery because of a page.
madelyn tensed as alex walked into the gallery.
"i heard there's a party tonight." he said.
"a party?" christina said, stopping in the doorway.
"uh, news to me." izzie lied.
"no party." george added.
"you wouldn't be invited, anyway." madelyn mumbled, alex heard her but chose to ignore it.
"we losing her or what?" alex asked as the monitors in the o.r. started to beep rapidly.
everyone shifted uncomfortably as the patient started to flatline. burke took out the paddles and quickly started to shock the heart.
the room relaxed as the heart started to beat again. burke nodded in satisfaction and madelyn left the gallery to go meet meredith downstairs.
she waited outside the scrub room, and threw her arms around her sister when she walked out.
"great job down there mer!"
"uh, yeah. thanks." meredith mumbled, smiling half heartedly.
"is everything okay?" madelyn asked, worried.
"yeah, i just, i think, i might have, i don't know. everything is probably fine. you know what, yeah. everything's fine. i'll catch up with you, all right?" meredith said, walking away from madelyn.
madelyn stood there for a second, confused what meredith was talking about when she said everything was fine.
madelyn was about to leave when meredith came walking back into the room.
"i think i screwed up, madelyn. i popped a glove."
"you what?"
"i popped a glove. my fingernail cut straight through. i was standing there, and for a second, when i was holding the heart, i nodded off. i may have squeezed the heart a little. i popped a glove."
"my god, meredith."
"what if i punctured her heart?"
"you would have known when she reperfused. the woman's heart is beating on its own. you're in the clear." madelyn reassured.
"so, i shouldn't tell burke?"
"why, just to get in more trouble? you are fine."
"i am fine."
the moment ended when madelyn's phone started to ring. she looked at the screen to see that it was her o.b. calling.
"i'm sorry, mer. i gotta take this. it's the o.b."
"it's fine. take it." meredith smiles, walking away from madelyn.
madelyn answered the phone, holding it to her ear.
"hello."
"hi, is this madelyn grey?"
"this is she."
"great. this is your o.b. i've got some news for you."
"good or bad?"
"both."
