"Oh ho ho! It's off monster hunting we go!" Mabel sang.
"Shooting Star, it's been half an hour, give it a break already!" Bill snapped.
The group were walking through the forest. Wendy and the Pine twins used their tracking skills, and they eventually arrived at a spot, where an abandoned church stood. The group slowly entered, scanning the wrecked area, before they noticed the huge pit in the back of the room.
They approached it, and looked down wearily. Wendy turned her gaze to the edge, where a couple of dry scales and brown fur littered near her feet.
"It carried Gompers down there," Wendy insisted, gesturing to the hole. "I'm sure of it."
Dipper nodded, beckoned everyone closer to him. "I'll transport us down, so everyone stand close to me."
Everyone obliged, but Bill hesitated. Will rolled his eyes, and pulled his brother closer. The blond's eyes widened, when he was yanked forward, and his head ended up bumping against Dipper's chest. Bill flared bright red, and Will stifled a laugh.
Dipper closed his eyes, and then a light encased them. There was a soft humming sound, and when the brightness ceased, the group looked at their surroundings. They were trapped in what looked like a mine, with wild vegetation growing around, and geysers sprouting from the earth.
"Woah, this place looks so cool," Mabel awed.
Bill nodded in agreement, then he heard soft panting. He turned to the male brunette, who was catching his breath. "You okay, Pine Tree?"
"I'm fine," He insisted. "It's just...harder to use my magic these days."
With nothing else to say on the matter, Dipper looked down the tunnel, and pulled out his sword. It immediately emitted a glow, and he moved forward.
"Come on, we don't have time to waste," He said, to the group.
With that, they immediately followed him into the tunnel. It was pretty dark, with only Dipper's sword, and the flame Stan ignited in his palm to guide them. They abruptly stopped, when Dipper's light revealed a sharped tooth creature standing before them.
Everyone screamed in surprise, but then they discovered that the beast was trapped in some amber coloured substance.
"It's sap," Will breathed.
Dipper looked closely at the imprisoned creature, and his eyes lit up in recognition. "Guys, this is a T-rex. What is it doing here?"
"You should ask them the same question," Stan said, suddenly.
The group turned, and saw the Day Guardian had increased the brightness of his flame. It was then revealed, that they were surrounded by sap encased dinosaurs. They marvelled at the sight, both with amazement and fear.
"Wait, is this how they survived all these years?" Dipper breathed. He shined his light on one of the sap molds, which had a giant hole in it. "The monster that took Gompers was probably a dinosaur that escaped!"
"Holy Axolotl, forget the cornicorn , this will drive the tourists wild," Stan grinned. "I can bring them down here, and turn it into some kind of theme park. Jurassic...Sap Hole."

"Let's not celebrate, yet," Dipper told him, bluntly. "Who knows what's down here. We should keep moving."
Everyone agreed, and moved forward. They passed many trapped dinosaurs, each more intimidating than the rest.
Will frowned. "I really hope Gompers is okay."
Bill nodded, uncharacteristically quiet. Will regarded him in concern, and tried to move closer, but the blond flinched away from him. That hurt more than Will liked to admit.
After a deep breath, Will forced a smile. "No need to be nervous--"
"I'm not," Bill replied, sharply.
Will sighed. "Sorry..."
There was silence between them once more. Meanwhile, Stan was looking around greedily, like he had dollar signs in his eyes.
"This place could be a gold mine! I'll put velvety type ropes here, a ticket booth here. Ha!" The Day Guardian grinned in Bill's direction. "Blondie, we should have left that goat outside sooner!"
Will stopped in his tracks, and turned to the old man. "What?"
"Fez!" Bill snapped.
"My bad," Stan said, gingerly.
Will spun towards his brother. "I thought the dinosaur came inside the shack."
Bill rubbed the back of his neck. "About that..."
"You lied to me!"
"Hold on, Fez lied, not me," Bill said, defensively.
"But you decided not to tell the truth!" Will yelled. "And thanks to you, Gompers could be dead!"
"I didn't ask to take care of that goat!" The blond remarked. "Seriously, what was up with that?"
"I thought you needed a distraction, because you been acting weird lately," His brother said.
Bill crossed his arms stubbornly. "What do you mean? I wasn't acting weird."
Will gritted his teeth, and shouted. "Yes, you are! All of a sudden, you're acting like I'm some kind of monster. What the hell, we're supposed to be brothers!"
The blue haired boy surged forward, and Bill backed away. Quickly, Wendy tried to get in between them.
"Guys, please just chill," Wendy insisted.
"No, Wendy," Will protested, glaring at the blond. "I want to know what his deal is. Seriously, don't you trust me anymore, Bill?"
There was a long unbearable silence, and Bill refused to meet his brother's gaze. Then, he spoke in a soft voice. "No...I don't think I can. I'm sorry."
Will stared, turning a shade paler. The fact that Bill admitted it, sent a pain in his chest, and not just from the bruised ribs. Will trembled, his eyes rimmed with tears.
Mabel quickly intervened. "C'mon, let's not fight, we're supposed to be finding Gompers. And Will, it was only a mistake on Bill's part, like when I left the doggy door open."
Dipper bit his lip, then blurted. "Mabel, there's something you need to know."
"What is it, Dipping Sauce?" She asked.
Stan regarded his nephew suspiciously. "Kid, what are you doing?"
"Telling her the truth," Dipper said. He looked at Mabel, and said hesitantly. "You didn't leave the doggy door open...Stan and I did."

Mabel's eyes widened. "What...?"
"We forgot to close it after we took Waddles for a walk," Dipper said. "We didn't mean--"
"You lost my pig!" Mabel shouted, enraged. "And you let me blame myself all these years!? What is wrong with you!?"
Stan moved forward. "Kid, just listen--"
"No, I'm never talking to you two again!" Mabel snapped, turning away from them.
"Mabel, we're sorry," Dipper insisted.
"Oh? Is someone talking to me, because I can't hear them!" She spat, refusing to look at him.
"Guys, maybe we should lower our voices, so the dinosaur won't hear us?" Wendy pointed out, but she was ignored.
Stan and Dipper were trying fruitlessly to gain Mabel's attention, while Will argued with Bill.
"So, that's it?" Will snapped, eyes glossed with tears. "You're just gonna forget all we went through, because of some stupid letter?"
Bill shook his head. "Will, it's not like that--"
"Then, what is it like!?" Will shouted. "For once, I wish you would just communicate with me!"
Bill was unresponsive, his eyes darting to his feet.
Meanwhile, Wendy watched as her friends fought. She racked her brain, trying to figure out a way to make them snap out of it, when a shadow covered her whole. The redhead slowly turned, and her eyes widened.
"Hey idiots...I found the monster."
Immediately, they stopped what they were doing, and followed her gaze. There was a drop in the astrosphere, as they faced a giant pterodactyl looming over them like a living nightmare.
"Everyone, stay perfectly still and keep quiet," Wendy told them, in a hush voice.
"Speak louder, I can't hear you!" Stan remarked, loudly.
The pterodactyl shrieked, revealing rows of sharp teeth. The group tensed with fear, and Stan blinked.
"Oops," Stan said, then lit both his hands on fire. "Oh well, time to roast this dino like--"
The dinosaur gurgled, like something was trapped in it's throat. Then out of nowhere, it coughed up a ball of sap at the Day Guardian. Stan cried out, when the substance covered his hands whole, and they were bind together.
"What in the hot Belgium waffles!?" Stan yelled.
While he tried to break free, Dipper and Wendy surged forward with their weapons raised. However, the pterodactyl coughed up more sap, which directly hit their weapons. The two stared and backed up, as their weaponry was trapped in a large pile of sap.
"How is it doing this!?" Dipper shouted.
Wendy didn't reply, too shocked. As she was distracted, a giant beak clamped around her torso, and she was lifted into the air. The group stared in horror, as Wendy was midway down the dinosaur's throat.
"I totally blame you guys for this!" She yelled at them, before she was swallowed whole.
After the monster devoured their friend, they didn't waste another moment. Dipper quickly pulled everyone near him, and used his powers. The pterodactyl roared, when a flash of light seared into it's eyes. A moment later, the group transported to the other side of the tunnel, where they faced a train track going over a large gorge.
Dipper almost fainted, and Bill quickly let the Guardian lean on him for support. The group sank to the ground behind a boulder, before the pterodactyl flew out of the tunnel and into the air.
Stan looked down at his hands, which emitted a soft glow through the sap. "Come on, melt already!" He urged, then sighed. "Is everyone okay? Mabel?"
Mabel huffed, and turned away.
"Mabel, you can hate us later," Dipper said. "Right now, we need to work as a team."
"That's gonna be pretty hard," Will remarked, glaring at Bill. "Because for a team, we'd need trust, and we seem to be lacking in that compartment."
Bill looked like he wanted to protest, but instead, he kept quiet.
"BAA!"
Will perked up, and turned around. At the end of the train track, they finally noticed a large nest. And peaking out from the nest, was Gompers the goat.
"Gompers!" Will cried, then without hesitation, he ran out onto the train tracks.
"Will, wait!" Bill told him, running after him.
The rest of the group were trailing behind. The train tracks rattled, as Will ran across on it. Then, finally, he reached the nest.
"Gompers!"
The goat looked up at him, then ran up to him, and jumped into the boy's arms. Will embraced the animal tightly.
"It's okay, you're safe now," He reassured.
Dipper, Mabel, and Stan entered the nest. They stared in fear, as they noticed the singular giant egg, and the human bones littered nearby.
Dipper quickly came up, and grabbed Will by the back of his sweater. "OK, you got your goat, now let's go," He said, then turned to the train tracks. "Bill, we're heading back!"
Bill stood in place, his legs shook violently. The blond glanced downwards, looking nauseous. "Just give me a minute..."
Then, there was a shriek.
Dipper looked up, and his heart raced, when he spotted the pterodactyl circling over. It roared, which struck fear in Gompers. The goat squirmed out of Will's arms, and ran across the track.
"Gompers, wait!"
Bill stared, as the goat ran towards him at top speed. And just when the pterodactyl swooped down and was about to grab the blond, the goat hit Bill square in the chest, and they both ended up falling off the track and plummeting into the gorge.
"Bill!" Dipper cried.
"We have to save them!" Will gasped.
Thud!
Soft growling was heard behind them, and they turned around. The pterodactyl stood there, jaw wide open.
"One question remains," Dipper started. "Who's gonna save us?"

It dropped into one of the Wells and all that could be done now was hope it was found in time, if at all. -- This was my very first large story. ;) I started writing it years ago. Was fun, was difficult, but in the end, it is a story I hope that will inspire. The prologue is in first person perspective and the rest of the story in 3d. Just a little heads-up :P It is a fantasy epic with a contemporary twist for the start. The first arc of the novel is set inside our modern world, but as the mysterious events around Calin intensifies, the hidden secrets in the world start to become more fantastical. The story follows Calin, a young orphan in search of answers. But, the answers he seeks will change his life and that of his friends forever, for the secrets that caused his situation have far greater ramifications than the small village of Lamb's Crest could have known. Remember to leave ratings and reviews. I'm quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the story. ;) Enjoy reading, Omri Hope
