Patton was in the back room organizing things before the end of the day when a familiar, darkly dressed young man walked into the cafe. The bell rang, making Roman distractedly note that there was a customer approaching as he attempted to finish up the last touch of decoration to a small cake they'd been asked to bake.
True to their word, "Patton & Prince's Coffee Shop" had become "Patton & Prince's Bakery and Coffee Cafe". They sold baked goods such as cookies, cupcakes, and even did commissioned cakes on occasion. They'd gotten even more steady business from their customers' adoration of the magnificent taste as well as their enthusiasm for the artistry of decoration. Both of the owners were incredibly happy they had decided to expand.
Roman absentmindedly greeted the person without looking up as he completed the last rose. "Hi, sorry for the delay," he said as he spun the cake on it's decoration platter to check it for any flaws a final time. "It's near closing, so I was finishing this commission-"
When he looked up, his breath caught in his throat. He smiled, looking surprised and breathless. "Virgil! Hi!" he exclaimed, moving swiftly to put away the frosting tube and wash his hands. Despite he and Logan showing up fairly regularly now, he was always flustered when the man he was crushing on appeared on the other side of the counter. "Good to see you back again!"
"That's really beautiful by the way," the darkly dressed man said with a small smile and a nod toward the cake he'd just been decorating.
Roman flushed at the compliment as he ran his fingers through his hair nervously. "Oh! T-Thank you," he managed with a shaky smile as he grabbed a notepad. "So, what would you like today? Usual hot chocolate?"
He shook his head, earning a surprised look from the barista. "Really? A double chocolate cookie?" he questioned, trying to guess what he'd like to order this late in the day and so close to closing. Receiving another head shake, his eyes widened. "Don't tell me Virgil Black actually might want to order a coffee?"

"I was thinking more along the lines of you dinner," he responded smoothly. Roman's eyes widened so much he was worried they'd pop out of his skull as he dropped his pen in shock. "As well as your number, if you would be interested."
His jaw was hanging open as he looked at his crush who was asking him to dinner. He checked the clock on the wall, seeing it read five minutes to closing. "I'd- I'd love to! Um, let me just go check with Patton to make sure there's nothing left he needs my help with," he rushed out, cheeks red as he hurried towards the back room. Virgil smiled affectionately as he watched him go, happy to know his interest was returned.
When the barista burst into the back room with a crazed look in his eyes and a bright red face, Patton didn't know what to think. "Roman? Is everything alright?" he asked, voice laced with concern.
"Virgil Black... he just asked me out to dinner. TONIGHT," he explained, earning a happy gasp from the other man. "Like, he's literally out there, right now, waiting for closing because he wants to take me to dinner. I'm gonna pass out."
"Oh my gosh! Roman! This is so exciting! GO!" his best friend giggled, shoving him back toward the store. "I've got things covered today, you cannot pass this up! Now go!"
He stumbled back into the shop, recovering with a blush on his face as Virgil looked back toward him. "Uh, yeah! He said he's all good for today, so I'm free to go with you," he managed as he shakily untied his apron and hung it up.
"Fantastic, I know a place a few blocks down," the darkly dressed young man said with a smile as he came around the counter to follow him to and out the door. "I hope you'll enjoy it."

Patton watched them walk away with a wide smile and a happy sigh. He knew just how badly he'd fallen for Virgil and the fact that he'd asked him out just made him want to smile. As they disappeared from sight, he began cleaning up the shop, wiping down the tables and sweeping before moving behind the counter to wipe it down as well. He had his back turned when the bell rang. He realized he'd forgotten to flip their sign, turning around with a gasp.
"Oh, sorry! We're not open-"
His sentence stopped short upon seeing who was approaching him. "I'm aware of your business hours, though I hoped you wouldn't mind," Logan said with a small smile. The baker thought he might be sick from all the butterflies that smile caused.
"Nope! I don't mind at all!" he said, smiling brightly. "Would like anything?"
"A hot chocolate with two straws would be nice," the necktie wearing man replied.
Patton moved to prepare the drink, grabbing a cup before stopping. He looked confused, opening and closing his mouth over and over again. "Who's the second straw for?" he questioned, hoping he wasn't about to say he was picking this up to go share it with a significant other.
"I was hoping it would be you," Logan said, rubbing the back of his neck as his cheeks turned pink. Patton stumbled from the shock, barely managing to save the hot chocolate as his whole face flushed red. Upon getting no reaction, the man amended his statement. "If you'd like to, which it's perfectly reasonable for you not to."
"I'd be thrilled to!" he exclaimed as he grabbed two straws, hands shaking slightly as he moved around the counter to join him at a table.
Setting the drink in between them and slipping Logan's straw in first, he watched him take a sip of it and sigh. "I've never had a better hot chocolate than when you make it," he commented as he slipped in his straw.
Patton blushed, smiling as he leaned into take a sip at the same time, accidentally bumping the tips of their noses together. Their eyes met, and a smile spread across Logan's face. The sight made the baker let a out a small giggle. The two of them continued to chat over the hot chocolate for about twenty minutes before the necktie wearing man admitted that he should be getting home.
"That was extraordinarily pleasant," he said with a smile. "If I could have your number, perhaps we can arrange to do something else similar sometime?"
He nodded quickly jotting down his number on a napkin. Logan smiled and tucked it away into his pocket and tried to hand him a bill for the hot chocolate, but Patton refused. "No, please, it was on the house, and after hours anyway," he insisted with a smile.
"If you insist, then consider this a tip for your effort and time," he said smoothly, dropping the bill into the tip jar by the counter before he could protest. "I hope to see you again soon then, Patton."
With a wave, he walked to the door and left with the baker smiling and waving as he went. Once he'd vanished from sight, Patton let out a squeal and giddily spun around a little. He couldn't wait to tell Roman about what had happened.
