The girl is sitting in the car with her best friend by the steering wheel. She knows what is going to happen. Two minutes from now she will be in the water. Her lungs will be screaming for air. She tries to stop the crying girl beside her. No sound leave her mouth as she tries to speak, her body is paralyzed.

One more minute. Tears are streaming down both of the girls' faces. Her best friend reaches for her hand. "Everything is fine, we will be okay. Together forever. Right?" The only thing the girl can do is nod.
Together forever.
They can see the bridge a head of them. Soon they will be in the water.
Thirty seconds.
The girl is gasping for air already.
Three.
Two.
One.
The best friend makes a sudden left turn and the car is now in the river. Water starts floding through the doors. Fast. It is already reaching their shoulders. Soon they car is filled.
Her lungs are burning. Her vision gets darker. She can no longer see.
I jerk awake when somebody is shaking my shoulders.
"" Blain breathes " "
"I'm fine. I'm fine, it was just a nightmare." I say. It sounds more like I am trying to convince myself than anyone else.
He wraps his arms around me into a tight hug. And as he does that I break, crumble to pieces. Tears run down my face. He coos comforting words in my ear as I cry against his chest.
I don't know how he does it. The way he calms me the way no one else ever could.
"Thank you." I whisper when I calm down.

Currently on hiatus, in part because I'm unsatisfied with how the story was starting to develop, and even though I had ideas how to run it, I still made mistakes far too big to correct them. Secondly I'm currently stressed about university, and sincerely, I don't see myself keeping this project. He shall fight gods, demons, dragons and monsters and even mortals who surpass those. But to do so he shall receive, though only after he proved himself worthy, a power beyond imagination. This power will not be handed freely to him, and he'll have to work hard to develop it. He shall receive the X-Men System. A magic system designed to enhance Lyon and give him the mutations from the X-Men serie. He shall start from scratch, with powers that will seem less than a mere human, and develop them with effort, to surpass the gods. While there will be plenty of borderline cliche heroics from our MC and friends, bear in mind that this is still a crappy and f***ed up world. If you do not apprecieate the characters you've grown attatched to being eaten by the denizens of the dungeons or the equally malevoulant mankind above, then i suggest perhaps continue scrolling down the list of novels and give this a pass. There is an innate leveling system in a sense and a handful of innate skills that can be obtained, but beyond that there is not much to do with any form of game features. Certainly no bluescreens for this one.

When I woke up after dying, I eventually realised that I was now the third daughter of this multi-millionaire end-game boss in a spin-off of a sequel of my favourite novel. Does this make any sense to you? Because it doesn't to me. But I guess I might as well make the most of it now. Just gotta stay away from some of the more unstable main characters and cut all ties with my 'family' to avoid certain death. [Volume 2] - Currently Airing It had not been a good idea to interfere with the characters of the original novel. Had I known it was going to cause a butterfly effect, I would have stayed in my lane and minded my business. Although, between the suspicious attacks I seem to constantly find myself in the center of, and my 'family' who is the living definition of the expression 'rich pricks', I’m not entirely sure my current predicament would have been avoidable. But maybe it isn't to be avoided; maybe I should embrace this opportunity that has been given to me and become the hero of this story? At least it's certain that I can't do worse than the original protagonist in terms of moral ambiguity; with immortality already in my pocket, and no other useful skills to account for. However, if I were to follow this path, I would have a lot to lose, including an upcoming promotion and my growing relationship with my crush. With power, glory and whatever else on one side, and my wellbeing and happiness on the other, even in this magical wuxia world, the choice is easy to make.
