《His Trophy | Jerome Valeska》three

Rory had been told that she wasn't allowed to leave the penthouse apartment, that she would always have someone watching her and that there was no point in trying to escape. Jerome had at first been angry when Theo left, he became possessive and irritant. When he calmed down, he gave Rory some explication as to why she was there - she was his trophy. He'd reminded her about what had happened in Metropolis City and that what had happened there when she had refused him. He had said that she was the only thing that got him through Gotham Asylum, which she knew was sarcasm.
Rory knew what she could do to men like Jerome, the way that she could make them feel just by looking at them. It was a curse, she didn't know how it had happened, but one day she could suddenly sense people's sanity and those who were insane suddenly craved her attention. None of the men she'd encountered before Jerome had tried to hurt her, they seemed to think that she was this angel that could redeem their humanity. They barely touched her in fear that they would destroy her.
Jerome was the first psycho that didn't care about ruining her innocence; in fact, it was almost like his mission to try and make her insane. They first met at a circus show in Rory's (ex)boyfriend's hometown. She was travelling from France to see him after eight months apart, she'd never been to a circus before, and Jake had decided to give her the all-American experience. She loved every bit of it, the lights, the performances, the atmosphere, if she hadn't have met Jerome that night, the memory would have been one of her fondest.
But, unfortunately, she did. Rory bumped into him on the way to try and find the toilet. She'd gotten lost and was walking through the trailer park of the circus, trying to find her way back when she met him. He radiated insanity, but at the time, Rory didn't understand what her curse was and was immediately attracted to the fact that Jerome had a pale green aura that surrounded his body. They got talking, and by the end of the night, she had forgotten entirely about Jake and the date.

She came to the circus every night to talk to Jerome, to laugh with him and enjoy herself with a boy who glowed. But it got out of hand- she started feeling things that she shouldn't have felt for Jerome. When Jake began to catch on, he confronted Jerome and it ended up with Jerome killing Jake. Rory was immediately taken to Gotham to live with her step-father - James Gordon.
Jerome wasn't afraid to kiss, punch or cut Rory. The only thing he was afraid of was losing her, and when she left for Gotham, he felt like it was him who'd gotten stabbed in the heart. When the circus rolled around to Gotham, Jim decided to bring Lee and Rory, and although Rory was reluctant, she went anyway to try and get to know Lee better.
When Jim and Lee started to investigate the circus, Rory deiced to head home and leave them to it, as she was leaving the carnival she caught a glimpse of Jerome standing in his caravan doorway, the same pale green glow burned around him only this time it didn't look like a halo but hellfire.
The sound of a faint knock woke Rory from her deep thoughts and forced her back into the real world. She stood slowly, pulling down her cheerleading top and skirt, and opened the door. Two girls stood in the doorway, both of them older than her, probably in their mid-twenties. They were both gorgeous, one was entirely dressed in leather and had her dark hair pulled back tightly into a ponytail, the other had blond curls flowing around her face and dressed in a simple t-shirt and jeans combo. The blonde girl was holding clothes in her hand
"Hi!" the blonde one smiled, her eyes gleaming with mischief.

"Hi?" Rory replied with a cautious tone.
"My god, you're beautiful! I'm Barbra, this is Tabitha," the blonde girl smiled and walked into the room, Tabitha following behind.
Rory closed the door behind them: "I'm Rory," she stammered.
Barbra let out a small giggle: "Don't be scared, we won't hurt you, we're just here to give you some new clothes!" she beamed.
As Rory looked at the two, she could start to see their colours: Tabitha had a royal blue aura that seemed to cling to her, whereas Babra had a light pink mist that hung around her head like clouds at sunset.
"Wow," she exclaimed as the two colours burned around the two girls.
"What?" Tabitha asked as she watched Rory.
The lights faded as Rory focused on what the girls were saying. She twitched at Tabitha's question:
"Erm," Rory pinched the bridge her nose as she adjusted.
"It's- it's nothing," Rory mumbled and moved away from the door and towards the window.
"Oh, is this the whole insanity thing?" Barbra asked.
Rory's head snapped towards her with wide eyes: "How'd you-"
"Jerome told us about it, he said that if you can sense insanity on us, then we truly are insane," Barbra shrugged before sitting opposite Rory on the window seat.
"So can you sense it on me?" she looked at her like a child would look at their mother on their birthday, eager to gain attention.
Rory nodded: "I can sense both of you," she said, looking back to Tabitha.
"Yes! Greenwood owes me $20," Barbra squealed.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
