《Cupid's Arrow ✔》Chapter 14

The weekend was over. Meaning school time. During the weekends, we can take our time in getting out of bed, and then comes Monday, along with Monday comes school.
Now, I was back to schedule. Get up, go to school, meet friends, sit for physics class, eat lunch, back home and then work, which was what I was currently doing.
Nothing happened in school today. Beside Ryan and Laura's argument, Alec and Leah stealing glances at each other and, of course, not to forget Ashley and Jason holding hands and all the lovey dovey stuffs. Jason had finally built up his courage to ask her out. Ashley was on cloud 9 when she gave me this news. Whenever I asked her how he propose, she would say it's our thing and I'm not going to tell you before walking away.
The guys have been eating Jason's head, blabbing about how he is so whipped and all. Jason would glare at them or just flip them off. He started becoming more active person in our group. He started interacting with all of us– mostly me, Leah and Laura. But we don't mind as long as he's talking.
It's been weeks since Chase became my neighbour. I learnt more about him in these past days as we spend time together. We would have normal conversations, but sometimes those conversations would turn into an argument.
Today was Thursday, just like another day. Aoron and I had to submit the math project, which we had completed days ago. The teacher liked our project and I'm guessing, I might get good grades in math. I've always liked doing Math work. It keeps me interested.
It was time for work. Chase has been working with me and he was good at it. It's kind of fun to see him at work. Most of the girls from our school usually hang out here, claiming that they need something to eat, but it's obvious that they mainly came to flirt with him. Which he, unfortunately from my side, flirts back. It pisses me off. I like him and he let the girls get all over him. The sight isn't pretty good, but I try my best to ignore it. The key word being 'try'.
Since Chase and I live next door, we decided to carpool as it's more convenient.
"I like this song. Don't change," Chase warned me. I rolled my eyes as I let him continue listening to whatever song he is listening to. While going home, I'll make sure I have the control over the radio.
"Fine." I grumbled under my breath.
We reached in no time and began working. Me as cashier and Chase as a waiter, serving people and making them coffee.
"How may I help you?" I asked the next person in the line, but didn't glance up from the computer in front of me.
"How about you come to my place and help me?" An amusing voice said. Not again.
I looked up and chuckled, "How about I call the manager and kick you out?" I asked, smirking at him while leaning against the counter. Since no one was behind him, I knew I could have a talk with him. He'll entertain me for a while.
"Feisty. I like it," he repeated the same words he said when we first met. I chuckled and shook my head.
"Let me guess. One banana milkshake and one chocolate milkshake?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. He grinned and shook his head.
"This time one banana milkshake and one strawberry milkshake," he said glancing at one of the booth where his fling was sitting.

"New one?" I asked while typing his order.
"Yup," he popped 'p' at the end. Players. He leaned against the counter. "What's your favorite milkshake?" He asked, looking towards his right and then back at me. He did this a few times, before focusing his glance on me.
"What makes you think, I'll tell you when I don't even know your name?" I asked and placed a hand on my hips. He just smiled at me.
"Figured," he smirked. "Well, my name is Emmett," he said. "Now can you tell me?"
I shook my head. "Nope," I said and took the money that he already placed on the counter, knowing how much it cost.
"Can I ask you something?" He suddenly asked, leaning closer. I backed away a little, thinking what's going on in his head.
"Yeah. What is it?" I asked, weirdly.
"Why is the guy to my right and your left staring draggers at me? Do you have a boyfriend?" He asked in a low voice so only I could hear. But it was no use, since no one was there near us.
I looked to my left and saw Chase throwing draggers at Emmett's head. His eyes then snapped back to me. It didn't soften. In fact, it became more hard and cold. I flinched back. He turned around and went away. I turned back and looked at Emmett, who was already standing there straight, arms crossed over his chest, an eyebrow raised and smirk on his face.
"No. He is not my boyfriend," I said and shook my head as a frown took over my face.
He sighed, "I think, he's just jealous that you're talking to me. It happens all the time. Wipe that frown off your face, it doesn't look good on you." He was about to turn around, but stopped and spoke. "Just so you know, I'll see you soon, Chloe. With another girl, possibly," he added and winked at me. I rolled my eyes when he said my name. Obviously, I had a name tag on. This guy can't get over with his ways. It won't be long before he ends up all black and blue because of his fling.
From the corner of my eyes, I saw Chase still glaring Emmett. He walks over to me and I pretended that I didn't see him coming this way.
He ran his hand through his hair and said, "What did he want from you? I could clearly hear his voice from where I was standing?"
I leaned on the counter. "He was just asking me about my favorite milkshake," I said, cutting the part of his new girl. He did ask me about my favorite one. Chase scoffed at my response.
"He can't possibly be asking you about it, when he already came with some girl here," he said, looking in the direction where they were sitting. Emmett was holding her hand and giving her a seductive smile.
Typical Emmett.
"He did. It's not the first time we met. It's fine." I waved my hand as I dismissed the further conversation.
But Chase had different things in mind. "He was flirting with you. Can't you see it?" he exasperated.
"Chase, it's nothing like that. He wasn't flirting with me. We were only talking. Same as last time." I tried to reason out.
"Last time? What do mean last time?" He asked. Didn't I just tell him?
"Yeah. Last time," I said, again. I straightened myself and asked a question of my own. "Are you...are you jealous?" I narrowed my eyes, waiting for him to answer.

"What!? No, of course not." He said, quickly. Too quickly, might I add.
"Then, why do you care?" I tilted my head. He paused for a moment, looking at me.
"I don't," he answered, clenching his jaws tight. With that he went back to his work, leaving me alone for the rest of the time. He didn't even glance in my direction.
When half an hour was left, I saw him leaving. Wait leaving! If he'll leave then, how am I suppose to go home?
I rushed behind him. "Chase, wait up!" He stopped and turned around, looking all irritated. I stopped in front of him. "Are you leaving?"
"Yes."
"How am I suppose to go home then? You are my ride," I said, maybe he forgot.
"So? I have to go."
He didn't let me reply. He swings his bag over his shoulder and walks out. I stood there, dumbfounded. He really just left me here? I felt a pang of hurt in my chest.
I looked down at the ground and turned and went to complete my work before it was time to go.
I was walking my way home when suddenly it started raining. At first, it was only few droplets, but then it started raining heavily. I was completely soaked as I ran to find a place with shelter to protect myself. But it was no use, I was already drenched.
I grabbed my phone from my bag and called Ashley.
"Hey," she said, sounding cheerful.
"H-hey," I said, shivering from cold.
"Chloe, what's wrong? Are you alright?" She asked, alarmed.
"Yeah. I mean no, I'm not f-fine. C-can you p-pick m-me up. If you are f-free?" I asked, through my chattering teeth.
"Of course, I'm coming. Just tell me where you are?" She said. I could hear some shuffling movement from her line as I gave her my current address and she quickly hung up.
I shiver from cold when I saw her car come up. She gestured me to get in and I quickly climbed inside. Giving me a concern look, she quickly turned on the heater.
"Are you alright?"
"Fi-fine," I answered.
"What happened, Chloe? Why are you alone at this time? It's already 8:30. As far as I know, your work gets over by 7." She asked in concern. I smiled at her worried face.
"I don't want to talk about it. Can you just take me home?" I mumbled. I felt better that I was in the car. It's too cold outside.
"Yeah sure. Let's go." We speed up to my house. No one said anything on the way. I don't know what was going in her head, but I was worried about Chase's behavior. He just left without me. I blame him for my current condition. If I get sick, I'm going kill him. I sighed and closed my eyes.
We reached my house by 8:45. I was walking slowly when I left from work. Then it started raining and I don't know for how long I waited for Ashley to come and pick me up. She stays far from where I work. I don't blame her. I was glad she could come though. I told her that and she just replied with 'what are friends for'. I smiled and went inside.
As I stepped inside, my head started pounding. I heard voices coming from the living room. I slowly made my way inside. Once I was at the entrance, I saw my parents, Chase's parents and Chase sitting there, all wearing worried expression.
"Mom?" I called. She snapped her head towards me. Everyone's eyes turned to me.
"Chloe, oh my god! What happened?" Mom asked as rushed over to me.
"Nothing, I'm fine. It's just the rain–" Before I could complete my sentence, dizziness hit me. I blinked a couple of times to clear my vision, but failed. Black spots invaded my eyesight as I closed my eyes, giving in to the darkness.
"Chloe?" Was the last thing I heard my Dad say, before everything went blank.
**
I woke up with something cold on my forehead. I opened my eyes, blinking a few times to clear my blurry sight.
I saw someone sitting next to me on the bed. I turned my head to see Chase sleeping with his hands crossed and the wall supporting his head. I looked outside the window and the moon was shining bright. What is he doing here?
Then everything that happened came to my mind. I looked at Chase and smiled. I know it was his mistake, but I'm glad he is here, sitting next to me and taking care of me.
I lifted my hand and brushed his hair and smiled at how soft his hair is. Due to my sudden movement, Chase snapped his eyes open and looked around until his eyes landed on me. He lifted his hand and took my hand in his, squeezing it.
"I'm sorry, Chloe. It's my fault that you're sick. I shouldn't have left you there like this. I was so scared when your mother called and told me that you weren't home yet. I was so worried when you weren't even answering my calls. Damn, it was my fault. How can I be so careless? It's because of that stupid guy that I was jealous of. I'm not trying to blame my mistake on him, but I was angry and I didn't know what to do. I'm really sorry, Chloe," he said, looking at me with a pain expression.
"Hey, it's alright. It wasn't your fault. Don't blame yourself. But there's something I'm not sure about?" I asked him. He smiled at me first, but then he narrowed his eyes at me, doubtfully.
"That is?" He asked, looking unsure.
"Why were you jealous?" I asked. From what he said, I only heard when he said he was jealous. Why would he be jealous unless..unless he likes me? Maybe?
"I don't know," he blushed. Oh my god! He blushed. He scratched the back of his neck, looking anywhere, but me.
I wanted to ask him what he meant, but I know better than to push my luck.
Go with the flow, I heard a little voice in my head say.
I smiled at him. He was still blushing. "Okay. Were you with me the whole time I blanked out?"
"Yeah. I was blaming myself." He said, still not looking at me.
"That means you didn't get any sleep," I said and scooted away to make some space for Chase. "You must be tired."
He saw the space I made for him. Debating with himself, he finally sighed and came next to me. He laid down beside me and turned to his right so he was facing me. I copied his movement and turned to my left to face him.
"Goodnight," Chase smiled.
"Goodnight," I smiled back.
My eyelids started feeling heavy and before I could go completely unconscious, I felt his arm wrap around my waist and pull me close. I sighed happily before falling asleep.
Who knew the bad boy is actually all sweet. Chase was a player, a badboy, sometimes even a jerk. When I first saw him in New York, I thought he was a complete stupid, arrogant jerk. Even after Emma tried to defend him, I refuse to believe her. But she was right. Chase is sweet. I'm glad I could see his real personality, other than his jerk personality.
With that I fell asleep next to him. I was happy and no one can take that from me. Little did I know that the worst was yet to come.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
