Damien and Ivan always loved doing their annual road trips around America. Always so much to see and do when they weren't arguing playfully over stupid topics on the long roads. Atlas, Ivan's wishes had been answered, the map showed their next town to stop in for the night. Damien had gone on about it for weeks, citing it as one of the biggest party towns which was strange for in actuality a rather small place. Santa Carla didn't look that big on the map.
Ivan took a sip from his iced tea courtesy of a quick stop and toilet break. It was warm, beach warm but without a beach to stop at, at least now, they made due with the windows rolled right down and the sunglasses sitting atop their wild hair dos of red and bleach blond.
“Over there! Over there! We're close Iv!” Damien drummed his palms on the car dashboard. Ivan saw the sign coming, promise of the beachy party place the had been looking into.
His smile crinkled to his eyes and he de aided to tease his ecstatic brother. “Why yes Dami, if my eyes serve me right that huge welcome billboard does say we are in Santa Carla.”
“Oh shut up!”
“Make me.”
“If I do, there won't be a welcome sign anymore.”

Finding a parking space was relatively easy as was finding a decent yet on the cheaper side hotel for the night. Two basic beds and a little TV along with a ditched room service menu. No, tonight the two had planned to see it all... after a little rest. The sun was still high as Damien decided to head out after a quick nap, bringing back snacks and showering the day of sweat off his back and hair.
Ivan awoke soon after, yawning and crawling out of bed. Tired limbs stretched pleasantly and his muscles twitched. “Damien?” He asked, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand. When there was no response, Ivan had a look around. The bed was messy but no one was in it and there was a plastic bag on the little bed side table. One Ivan didn't remember being there and he was quickly clued in when he heard the distinct click from the bathroom.
Must have gone out earlier, his brain decided before getting up and getting dressed for the day- night by the dark windows.
Oh well, there goes the day... Ivan thought.
Ivan threw on his bleached jeans and shuffled into his favourite shirt.
Damien was quick to resurface as soon as Ivan gave the heads up about going out. Clad in his embroidered jeans and colour block shirt.
“Took you long enough, thought you were gonna sleep the whole day away.” Damien smiled and picked up the bag from earlier. The plastic rustling as he grabbed a snack and through it towards Ivan. “Eat up, got some snacks.”
“Hope you got soda.”
“Duh.” Damien held up his own can. Guilty. At least they had some sugar and energy to actually be able to take in the sights.
They were promised a whole lot. Party town central, black market everything if you knew where to look, dodgy tattoo and pair ring parlours and a whole bunch of carnival activities along with anxiety inducing but fun rides that they would definitely be going on.

What the two weren't expecting was to meet a gang of feral assholes. Attractive, charming and oddly charismatic assholes. The brunette who reminded Damien of one of his mothers old romance novels looked about as intimidating as they came and little did he know, Ivan had gotten the same vibe, just from the icy blonde who had interrupted them.
“Got a light, boys?” Cigarette hung loosely from his lips as he asked.
Ivan, a part time smoker couldn't help but fall over himself to offer his own. It was a jazzed out skull lighter with glitter he flicked open and held the flame out. The icy blonde leaned in, steel blue staying on his own as the flame met the tip. Puffs of silver clouds curled from his stubble lined lips.
“Thanks.”
“Yeah thanks handsome.” The curly blonde purred causing the taller blonde to laugh at him, “Oh man. Oh man.”
“Marko, shut up.” David said, eyes piercing his with a less than pleased look in his face. It was strange to see, more so when The taller blonde giggled and placed a hand on the curly haired boy's shoulder.
“Hey why don't we skedaddle and get our rocks off elsewhere?” He suggested, a wink landing Damien's direction. Damien reacted with an awkward smile but he could tell the blond was just playing with him.
“But the fun’s here dude!”
The two left promptly, smirking at the two and it was a little uneasy
“Sorry about them, they can be a little too friendly at times.”
“No bother.” Ivan tucked his lighter away back into his pocket.
The ended up staying around for a little longer, being comfortable in their presence even if no one was talking. It was a strange feeling altogether, a contentedness that the siblings felt throughout and one that the two vampires had felt grow the longer they stuck around.
There was no question about it. They were intrigued by the locals and by the looks the pairs had been sending each other, it was clear something was going on.
“Been around here long?” Dwayne asked.
Damien sensed that he was talking to him, seeing as he had been eyeing him when he asked. His voice was pleasant, gruff and matched his mysterious vibe.
“Just for the day or so.”
“Uh yeah, it was one of those hidden gems we decided to check out among other stops.”
“Stops?” David asked, flicking the ash off to the side with his finger.
“Road trip- sort of. We like travelling but don't really have the time so it's usually when we both get time off work.”
David hummed, there was a look of fascination over his icy features and it was then he knew how to get more time with the little red head who caught his attention. Well that and from what he was getting from Dwayne, he knew the brunette had taken a liking- even if just a small one towards the icy blonde.
“Would you like a tour?” David asked, begging the question of what there was to see.
Lot's by the time they had accepted and went along. It was one of the best places they could have went to with not just a whole bunch of fun rides and games, but the bars, diners and cool nooks and crannies. Santa Carla was proving to be an even cooler hotspot to visit more so with the locals that seemed more than happy to entertain them.
By the time the four ended up at the entrance of the boardwalk, they were beginning to feel the inevitable separation. Ivan who had ended up under David's arm, looked towards the giant clock above and his smile dropped just a little. It was close to 2pm, far later than they usually stayed up, at least in the other stops before hand.

Damien who had been walking arm against arm with Dwayne refused to mention the time, leaving Ivan to bring it up.
“It's been a great night but we should probably be heading back to our hotel now.” He said, causing the four to pause... as if they even knew where they were going.
“You sure you can't stay out a little longer?” David asked, arm lingering around his shoulders as he addressed the growing cloud hanging above. None of them wanted to leave but seeing as Dwayne was having problems with approaching the subject, it left David to improvise. Perhaps a trip to the cave was in order, who knows how many people beforehand were impressed by the hidden treasure. Although. David but his tongue lightly when he knew just what his brothers would be thinking if they did and he was adamant that these two were not meals, they were... something. There was something that led them to them.
“Well maybe, just another hour? Won't kill us.” Ivan shrugged, sharing a glance at Damien who nodded, excited at the prospect of staying out a little later than planned but that was what trips were for. This wasn't the everyday life they had back in Chicago. This was much more exciting.
“No it won't.” David gave a satisfied smirk and before the two knew it they were headed towards a set of motorbikes, rather sick looking motorbikes at that. Of course they should have known at least by what David had been wearing let alone the curly haired blondie from earlier that they were bikers.
“Want to go for a ride? Santa Carla's pretty at this time of night.” David asked, already knowing from Ivan's closeness, that he wouldn't turn it down. Pulling away from the red head, he mounted the metal monstrosity.
“You have ridden before haven't you?” He asked, stabilizing the bike.
Ivan looked a little apprehensive but nodded, “Yeah I have once or twice but he hasn't.” Ivan pointed towards Damien in a little teasing jab. It was appreciated despite the playful middle finger he received. Ivan knew his brother king enough to know he didn't like admitting things he thought was embarrassing.
“That's fine, just put your foot here." Dwayne gestured before Damien could explain. He held his arm out, acting as something to hold onto.
Damien had been a little reluctant to get on behind Dwayne but when David mentioned they were going to their place, it lessened his reluctance. Ivan needed help on the back, almost falling off and his cheeks were lit with embarrassment. If David was amused, he didn't say anything.
Dwayne on the other hand, took delight in bringing Damien's arms around his bare waist. “Hold on tight.” He said, a rare smirk on his handsome features. His skin was cool, but pleasant as Damien made sure to keep a tight grip and most certainly not think about how tight the abs and muscles underneath smooth skin felt.
He had it bad. Real bad.
It was- it was something as they raced past street lights and screams soon turned into excited yells. The boys hadn't exactly been too gentle with breaking in their passengers, manoeuvring skilful turns and riding through a glaze of thick fog.
The ground was rocky, shaking the bike ever so slightly and every so often. It didn't exactly make them feel brave or safe.
“Are you crazy!” Ivan yelled, they could hardly see a foot in front of them and he was seconds away from trembling but he didn't dare- or rather his body had the opposite reaction, frozen behind David.
“You'll see.”
“See what?! My imminent death.”
“Trust me.”
“If you get me killed-"
“No I won't. We're just outside of our hangout spot.”
“How do you know?”
“I eat carrots.” David responded, the slight hint of sarcasm breaking his hesitancies. The bike skidded to a stop- by the mesh gate littered with warning signs. David has originally planned on taking his usual parking spot but he figured Ivan would really not like that.
After, they settled in, seeping naturally into their strange space as the music added to the exciting atmosphere. Anything could happen and whilst the two had never really tended to go off with strangers especially on a first meet basis but even though they were still technically strangers- it didn't feel that way.
“I didn't take you for the sentimental type, David.” Ivan laughed dropping onto the blonde's lap after he complimented his dancing skills. “Judging books by covers again, Ivan?” The music changed and the two shared a cigarette.
Dwayne had taken to finding out more about the two, well mainly Damien who talked enough for the both of them. Learning little about Dwayne didn't deter him from finding out about the man.
Somehow by the end of their hangout, there were promises exchanged in the form of a meet up in the later hours. The two were buzzing from all sorts as they were dropped off just outside the hotel. David had taken his time, fingers tapping the handlebar as Ivan climbed off carefully. Hair was messed up from the wind but it still suited him.
“So that was fun. I mean I had fun, did you?” Ivan stumbled, emotions climbing over his ability to speak properly. He immediately ran a hand through his wild hair, a habit of his whenever he felt a little awkward and nervous.
“Yeah, I did. Looking forward to tomorrow.”
Damien on the other hand had warmed up completely to Dwayne- despite the taller brunette being more of a show don't tell type person.
“Have a good sleep.” Dwayne waved a finger gun at him, sitting stationary on his monster of a bike. The guests would hate them that was for sure but it was worth it.
“Yeah, you too- maybe next time I can show you how to do a proper ollie.”
Dwayne snorted, eyes lightening up at the playful statement. It had become a norm since Damien figured out how to get Dwayne to talk a little more. His voice was pleasant and velvety, something Damien found himself drawn to.
“You can try.”
Damien had always had a hard time keeping his vocal filter at bay and before he could think about it, he retorted, “Then it's a date!”
0.2 seconds later he had realized just he the had said. He had just messed up his chance with tall, dark and handsome. “Shit- not like a da-"
Damien was cut off by a finger to his lips. His brother Ivan was gawking at him, very likely screaming internally, “What did you say!” He prepared to trip over himself to down play his giddy slip up.
“It's a date. I like you.”

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment. The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
