《Captured By The King》Twenty-seven • Moon

"I think I ate so much," I giggled while telling Dimitrius. I must admit, all those burgers, fries, sundaes, sodas, and nuggets, they were better than any salad, steak, or foods that I have ever tried.
First, the ocean. Second, McDonald's. What's probably next? The night seemed so young that I felt like it's everlasting by Dimitrius' side.
None of us bothered to check the time. We were like a regular couple, enjoying the dark night sky. What surprised me was Dimitrius' hand holding mine as we walked out of the restaurant.
His hands felt so soft yet his grasp was tight. Slowly, his thumb caressed my knuckles as if asking for permission. I opened my hands and in a swift motion, our fingers were intertwined.
Lucky for him, my vervain ring was placed on my other hand but his index finger also had a ring that caught my attention. Since it was dark, I couldn't see much of it but it looked vaguely familiar.
I brought our hands up close to my chest as I took a closer look at his ring. It was a beautiful gold ring that had an engravement, "My King." It was the same ring that held my memories from when I was born.
"Felicity, you have to run as fast as you can. Do you understand me?" Dimitri said.
"What's happening? Where's momma? I can't run Dimitri, I'm s-scared!" I started crying and I put my hands on my ears because of the thunders.
"No, Feli, you're brave, remember? You have to run to the castle, you'll be a princess!" He told me but I did not believe him. Princesses weren't real, they only existed in fairytales like momma and papa told me.
"But where will you go, Dimitri?" I asked him but he just hugged me tightly. The storm kept on pouring rain on us.
"I love you, Felicity but I'm sorry that I have to do this."
Dimitri said something that I did not understand, "obliviscaris omnia."
I blinked and then, I screamed because a stranger was in front of me. "Let me go!" I told him but he carried me. Oh no, where is he taking me?
Everything I saw was black and I couldn't remember anything. When I opened my eyes, I saw someone. She was beautiful. Her eyes were green, her hair was black and her skin looked so pretty.

"Who are you?" I whispered because I was so scared.
"I am Mary, Princess Felicity," she said. Why did she call me a princess?
"No no no, I'm not Felicity! I am -" But I could not remember anything. Who am I? What happened?
"Princess Felicity Lowell."
"Felicity!" Someone screamed while shaking my body. When I looked up, I saw a worried Dimitrius. How did those memories come back?
"Are you okay?" He asked me. His eyes searched mine, waiting for my answer. When I got my memories before, it wasn't anything that felt like this.
I felt so nauseous and drained. As if I just ran a mile without breathing. Why did it feel something like that? I felt so attached to him. When I was five at that time and he told me to run, my feet couldn't. All I felt was a connection between the two of us.
The mate bond.
It made me remember the emotions I had. That even as I looked at him like my own brother, I loved him deeply. Sure, I was five and I did not understand anything but I knew what I felt. I was too young to know what it was. Later on, I called it love.
After what felt like hours of agonizing confusion. I didn't realize that we were walking towards a forest while Dimitrius still held my hand. He must have understood what happened to me since he did not utter a single word.
When we reached a clearing, I sat on one of the logs and watched as Dimitrius walked towards a tree. "What are you doing?" I asked him but he just looked at me with his eyes flickering from blue to red.
"You have to run!" He screamed in a deeper voice than usual. What was happening?
"What's happening, Dimitrius?" I tried to ask calmly but my voice sounded in a shaky whisper. He was slowly scaring me and I could not hide that fact.
My eyes darted to the moon and that's when I realized. It was a full moon. The phase where all supernatural creatures lose control of themselves. The night when humans hide behind their doors and close their eyes until the sun shines.
Tonight is the night when I should be nowhere near Dimitrius. Should I knew, would I choose to run away from him? I already know my answer but he does not.

"I did not know, Felicity. I'm sorry!" He said while holding the tree tighter. His control was slowly slipping away and his inner beast started walking towards me. "You have to go away!" He commanded but I stood frozen, ready to fight.
"I'm not going anywhere, Dimitrius. You have to fight it," I told him and his eyes lingered somewhere else or rather, someone else.
Were we already in my territory? What was a little girl doing by herself in the middle of nowhere especially on a full moon? What scared me the most was Dimitrius' stare at her. He was not going to lose control over me. His hunger, his thirst, his beast, all of which will be released over the girl's helpless soul.
She looked so young and pure. Something looked familiar in her but I couldn't distinguish it. In a flash, Dimitrius was already standing behind her.
"Dimitrius, no!" I screamed and ran towards the girl to protect her and not let her die. She doesn't deserve any of what was about to happen.
"Felicity, run!" He screamed but as he opened his mouth and I saw his fangs, I ran faster until I was able to push the girl away from him. He pierced my skin with his fangs and it felt like the most painful thing that has ever happened to me.
Dimitrius took large gulps of my blood while his hands held my neck and my back. I could feel myself getting paler every second. "Please stop," I pleaded but he sank in deeper.
All I could see was the moon above us, shining like a bright diamond. Reaching its apex, that's when Dimitrius gave in to the last of his control. He held me tighter while he drank more of my blood.
I fought the urge to scream, cry, and close my eyes. He is my mate, he wouldn't do anything to potentially kill me, right? Yet here he was, draining my life like it did not matter to him.
"Dimitrius, it hurts, please," I whispered more but it was too late. I did not see stars in the sky before but now, it all clouded my visions.
All I wanted was to sleep and I did. Closing my eyes peacefully, the last thing I saw was the little girl that I saved. She recognized me because she mouthed something that I could not understand much.
Before I fell into unconsciousness, she said, "Dominic sent me here, Queen Felicity."
It was his plan, to subject me to an unbearable pain that was caused by my own mate. That was the reason why it pained me like hell. Nothing was more painful than being hurt by the person you trusted the most.
But Dominic didn't know me as much as Dimitrius did. Even after this tragic death that Dimitrius is about to give me, it wouldn't stop me from ending the prophecy. Not even death would stop my vengeance.
I am Queen Felicity Lowell. I don't back down. I don't bow down to any King. I fight on my own. If Dominic thought that this would be the end of me, he thought wrong.
As Dimitrius drained the last drop of my blood, he also took my last ounce of trust in him. I thought that we were in this fight together but I also thought wrong.
Has Dimitrius forgotten? That before this date even started, I had his blood in my system. His own blood that would turn me to what he is after I face death. When my eyes closed, I remembered one thing.
I died as a human and I will rise as a vampire.

Moonblood
Five moons rise over Evanir, each in her own cycle, and each moon is also a god, one of five sisters. Many gods create spirit attendants and companions, brought forth fully-formed. Long ago, the moons worked together to create a lineage that are, instead, humans transformed by the mingling of blood. They intended them to be long-lived and to draw their strength directly from the light of the moon who chose each individual. The five sisters had different goals in mind – one wanted it to be a blessing for scholars and artists, to give them more time and fewer physical distractions; another wanted them to have an animal form, different for each, to keep them more in tune with nature so they could serve as guardians of the wilderness. There are drawbacks to their children having human lives and personalities before being chosen: not all share the goals of their divine mothers, and some choose to put their gifts to darker uses. Those carrying the blood of one woman, fleeing the corruption in search of a quiet life, take a different path. -=-=-=-=- Moonblood isn't so much a novel as a series of adventures of varying length. They involve a core group of people, which does grow over time. They take place in a fairly low-magic world, but despite that, our core cast are directly connected to the moons and have various abilities, including limited shapeshifting to a single individual animal form. As with all my work, unless gender, orientation, or other aspects of sexuality are explicitly stated, I suggest not making assumptions. Probably most significant, I think, is a major trans character who appears about 80K words in - no spoilers, just a note for those who care about that one way or the other.
