《✔️Ambrosia (Edward Cullen) BOOK ONE》7 - "Walking in the rain"

The weekend in Miss Everett's home for children was incredibly uncomfortable, Max and Teddy put on cooking duty as a bid for them to regain their lost friendship. It only managed to result in a large amount of swearing and a few broken plates. That was why, despite the rain and sadness of the weather, Ambrosia Emerald Hatton ventures out on Sunday for an early evening stroll.
Rain pattered down softly on top her, splashing against the vivid yellow colour of her raincoat, stiff due to its almost-plastic nature. This coat was a leap from her comfort zone, it turned her into a human traffic cone but she couldn't help but love the positivity it gave her. Raindrops rolled across it charmingly and she smiled despite herself, feet avoiding puddles though she had to look down to do so. Looking down was how she realised that she wasn't alone on the street, another pair of shoes entered her vision and with a jolt, she realised that she recognised them.
Trailing her eyes upwards, she was shocked to meet the angelically handsome face of Edward Cullen. He smiled at her softly but his eyebrows were crinkled into a frown. Ambrosia should not have been so surprised to run into another human being, it wasn't that late yet and she was in the middle of town. The boy was dressed elegantly as ever, a large black umbrella over his perfectly styled hair, a thick waterproof coat on his toned body and gloves on his hands. In his free hand, he carried a parcel carefully, likely the reason he was in town on this miserable day.
"Ambrosia" he greeted, his voice hinted that he was surprised to see her, she couldn't blame him, her heart lurched at the sight of him and the raindrops seemed to move in slow motion. Softly, he stepped forward, the umbrella covering her as well, she barely noticed.

"Hi" her voice was a squeak as she looked down, cheeks flaming and Edward marvelled in the sight, she was so stunning at that moment, cheeks flaming behind golden brown hair, green eyes cast downward, smile perking at her lips with splashing rain as a backdrop.
"Are you okay? You're soaking, you must be freezing" he was concerned, she could tell from his voice and the thought did strange things to her thumping heart. They were in close proximity now and she could feel sparks flying off of him. Her jeans were plastered to her legs from the angle of the pouring rain and her flyaway hair was glued to her, drenched.
"I'm okay... I just... needed to get away for a while," she spoke softly, like a nervous animal and he knew that she was scared from the thumping of her heart but Ambrosia was slowly calming around him. He understood what she meant, it didn't take a genius to decipher that there would be tension in the orphanage today. Both Teddy and Max were suspended for three days for their brawling.
"Did you walk all this way?" she was as surprised as him to notice how far she had walked but she nodded slowly, her awkwardness causing a smile to split on his cheeks naturally. "Did you want to grab a drink?" he nodded to the cafe on his right, it was empty as a result of the horrific weather and she nodded, uncomfortable at the thought but frozen and in need of some warmth for a little while. The Cullen boy held the door open awkwardly for her as a result of the things he was holding. Ambrosia softly took the parcel from under his arm as she entered, his golden eyes watching her warmly as she did so. Her actions allowed him to quickly shake off and close the umbrella without the worry of dropping it.

Ambrosia walked nervously toward the counter, pulling a small beaded purse from her pocket as she did so, her hood dropping to reveal her hair. Her fingers fidgeted with the purse as she looked over the boards above her, afraid that the lady behind the counter would ask her what she wanted before she decided. Ambrosia jumped slightly when Edward rejoined her side.
"Hot chocolate?" he wondered, and she was grateful that somebody had decided for her, she nodded. Ambrosia didn't much appreciate flavoured drinks, she preferred them how they originally came. Edward ordered before she had a chance to think and handed over a crisp note that made her jump, quickly counting out the coins in her purse. When he turned, holding two takeaway cups, she frowned at him and he smiled. "Should we sit?"
"Okay" she followed him to a cosy corner and they sat opposite one another at the table, her hand was sweating slightly around the coins that she held and she quickly grabbed his hand, blushing when she realised what she had done but following through. Flipping Edwards gloved hand over, Ambrosia dropped a neat stack of coins into it before retracting her hand.
"This one's on me" he promised, placing it neatly on the table. "You can get the next one" he smiled and her heart leapt at the thought that there would be a next time. "How come you didn't drive?" a sigh escaped her lips at that.
"My car broke" she informed him sadly. "Max is taking it to the reservation, he knows some people down there who could fix it." she shrugged but she had little hope for the blue bug.
"Oh" Edward frowned "How are you getting to school?"
"Well, while Teddy and Max are off, I can squeeze in with the girls" she responded just as quickly, twisting the hot chocolate cup in her hands.
"Nonsense" he replied and she looked up at him in shock "I can take you if you'd like"
"You wouldn't mind?" she wanted to protest but Ambrosia knew that eventually one of them would have to find a new ride, seeing at Pheobe's car was only a four-seater.
"Of course not" he smiled and she couldn't help but return it. "I will be there at eight?" he wondered and she nodded happily, at least she wouldn't be late anymore. The two of them sipped their hot chocolates together in silence, the male never moving his from the table but she didn't notice, watching the rain patter down passed the window. When the time came, Edward happily drove Ambrosia home with the promise that he would see her bright and early the next morning.
