Ambrosia Emerald Hatton felt pain rocket through her head from her left temple across to her right, causing an aching sensation behind her eyes and her hand reached up to touch it, a groan escaping from her slightly parted lips. Upon her head she could feel a gauze plaster taped, covering half of her forehead, her hair was scraped back out of the way, tied up neatly and she felt the need to cry just from the sensation that rushed through her, of course, she didn't allow tears to spill just yet.
"Ambrosia?" she knew that voice well, it was Edward, her brain failed to understand what was happening at that moment and as an instinct, her eyes flew open, regretting it instantly as they watered from the sudden bright light. Blinking rapidly, shapes became actual objects and her green gaze met that of Edward Cullen in all his shining glory. She was tucked up in a bed comfortably and everything was foreign to her for a moment, she didn't know how she had ended up where she was now but her eyes pricked with hot tears from disorientation. "Hey, It's okay" he promised, instinctively moving to sit on the bed beside her.
Ambrosia tucked her face into his chest, inhaling his scent but her body rocked softly in leftover shock as his cold fingers caressed her back, the other running through her hair. His chin was resting atop her head and although the entire closeness should feel awkward for them, it felt just right.
"Listen to me" his voice was soft, not pestering and she looked upward at him like a lost puppy "It's okay, let me get a doctor. It will be alright" he promised, his hand ghosting across the flesh of her cheek gently before he stood and left, her small nod affirming what he wanted. In the silence that came with being alone, Ambrosia noticed that it was still bright outside the window, a welcome relief to her. She was silently questioning why none of her family was there but who was there? Really? Of course, she was certain Miss Everett would be along as soon as she possibly could but aside from that, her foster siblings were stuck at school still and she was alone in the world other than those few people.

When Edward returned not ten minutes later, Ambrosia had pulled her knees up and rested her chin on top of them comfortably, she was trying to calm her own nerves, that much was evident. Though she need not have worried seeing as though she had the best doctor in town. Carlisle Cullen entered the small medical room shortly after his adoptive son, ready to meet his son's mate in her conscious state.
Ambrosia watched him with her sparkling green eyes but didn't move an inch, it was clear she knew who he was and the good doctor could see why his son was so attracted to this particular human. Her features were practically angelic, eyes mesmerizing.
"Hello Ambrosia" he smiled softly, he couldn't help but gentle his voice as she looked at him so shyly, like a broken animal. Edward perched himself on the end of the bed, even though it was only his father, it was clear that he was on the defence, it was only to be expected seeing as his mate had had her life threatened not even half an hour earlier. "I'm doctor Cullen, we're just going to look you over and make sure everything is okay? Is that alright?" she nodded and slung her legs over the edge of the bed so she sat beside Edward who smiled at her, locking his fingers with hers in a comforting gesture. "Look here for me" he shone a light in her eyes and moved it, his face becoming one of slight concern. "Do you feel any nausea Ambrosia?" she thought before shaking her head honestly.
"No"
"Good" he smiled "Can you stand up for me?" he wondered and she did so in an instant, though her legs buckled like jelly beneath her the second they were holding weight and the good doctor grabbed her before she fell, as though she weighed nothing, carefully guiding her back onto the bed, doctor Cullen looked over his notes sheet once more. "Here's what we'll do, we'll keep you here for a few more hours, okay? And see that you are okay, if you feel better by tonight, you will be able to go home, if not you can spend the night. Is that alright Miss Hatton? We wouldn't want anything bad to happen, you've had quite the spill." she nodded, at no liberty to deny the doctor.

"Thank you, Doctor Cullen" Ambrosia smiled sweetly, she knew that this was a man that could be trusted, just from his gentle nature and his small, soft smile. He exchanged a glance with Edward before taking his leave.
"Please call me Carlisle, I am off to make a call with Miss Everett now, is that okay? She, unfortunately, has her hands full at the moment but will visit as soon as possible and will come to sign your release forms when you feel a bit better. Try and get some rest."
"Thank you" she repeated, watching him leave.
"How do you feel Rosia?" Edward questioned sincerely and her heart fluttered at the sound of her shortened name on his tongue.
"I don't remember what happened, it's all such a blur... Is Bella okay?" she wondered, suddenly remembering the other brunette at the scene, feeling horrible that she hadn't questioned it before that moment.
"She's okay" he returned though his jaw was stiff. "Don't worry, maybe you should go to sleep?" he wondered.
"Read to me?" she questioned like a child and he couldn't help but beam as he nodded, pulling the Great Gatsby from her bag, it was a book she could never get bored of. Ambrosia snuggled into his chest as he read to her, slowly falling into calm sleep within his arms. Edward was beyond angry, but you wouldn't be able to tell that from his face or voice. Fredrick was in a lot of trouble with the entire family, having almost allowed the death of Ambrosia by pushing Edward out of the way and selfishly prioritising Bella. Edward was there, prepared to save his mate and his efforts were proved futile by his very own twin brother.
Ever since Bella Swan had rolled into town in her orange truck, things had been changing for Fredrick. He had a genuine attraction for Bella, one he knew he couldn't act on at risk of angering his family. Bella was different from Ambrosia, she festered slightly off of gossip and she had potentially lots to lose from knowing them. Fredrick was bad with humans, he always had been and they all knew that if Bellas blood had spilt in that parking lot instead of Ambrosia's, Isabella Swan would be dead and the Cullens would be outed to the entire population of Forks Washington.
