《✔️Ambrosia (Edward Cullen) BOOK ONE》17 - "Interrogation Station"

Ambrosia was over the moon as she took a seat in her English Literature class, her Wuthering Heights character profiles clasped in her hand as she smiled at Bella. Everything was perfect in her life at that moment, she was elated and in just a few months, Ambrosia would come to realise just how dangerous her happiness was, but for now, she was beyond happy and nothing could tarnish that... Or so she thought. Bella Swan really knew how to put a damper on a good mood.
"So... Just friends? Huh?" the girl scoffed and it startled Ambrosia as she looked over at her with slightly wide eyes, she was not one of confrontation and Bella didn't seem like she was either. This moment was proving her wrong, Bella looked furious and Ambrosia knew why. Isabella had been trying to get the truth out of Freddie since the almost crash incident and it was clear to her that Ambrosia knew whatever secret was being hidden. Bella didn't like being left out of the equation and she almost felt as though she was more deserving of the truth, she strived for it where Ambrosia had just been told, the quiet girl in the corner.
Bella felt almost betrayed, she knew that she and Ambrosia had only exchanged a few words since meeting one another, had a handful of conversations but they were content with the silence and Bella had come to think of Ambrosia as a friend.
"We were just friends Bella, things change," she stated calmly, surprising the both of them. One thing Ambrosia knew for certain was that Bella wasn't going to get the truth out of her, no matter what she did. She was sworn to secrecy and Ambrosia prided herself on her loyalty.
"... I know you know Ambrosia"

"I have no idea what you're talking about" her voice was surprisingly convincing, it even succeeded in knocking Bella back a bit before the girl built her confidence back up. She was certain that Ambrosia knew the Cullen's secret.
"Oh come on, you know that there is something off about them... I think they're dangerous Rosia. Now I know you are smart. So you would've noticed something off about them too, you would've questioned them and from the way you are with Edward, I know he told you." she pestered "The fact that you are still with him... And refusing to talk means you know something, and you've accepted it. I can too"
"Bella, this really isn't any of your business, okay? The Cullens, they have their own reasons to be secretive, they don't have easy pasts, with being adopted. Did it ever occur to you that they don't want to talk about it?"
"You're an orphan too" Bella breathed, almost as though that was the answer she was looking for, the reason they had told her. Ambrosia had nothing to lose.
"I hardly see how that has anything to do with it"
"How did your parents die Ambrosia?" Bella wondered, her voice lacking any sensitivity, it was like her brain was trying to match up imaginary ideas in her head and Ambrosia was the piece of the puzzle that didn't quite fit.
"Bella!" the little orphan girl was appaled, nobody had ever asked her so outright and she hardly saw how her parent's deaths were relevant to anything they were discussing. Her parents had nothing to do with this. She understood that Bella was desperate, clinging to leads but she was doing it in the worst possible way... She was becoming obsessed.
"I need to know Ambrosia, you might be in danger. Going to La Push at the weekend told me a lot of things."

"Look, Bella, I don't know what is going on between you and Freddie, frankly I don't care, but I would rather you left me and my family out of your little disagreement, I don't know anything about whatever you're trying to find out. All I know is that they are quiet people, I don't think you can fault them for that" she turned away, not engaging with Isabella again throughout the lesson, even as her face filled with guilt. Ambrosia's happiness had harnessed into anger, how could Bella possibly think that her parents had anything to do with this?
Ambrosia and Isabella did not speak for the rest of the lesson, Rosalind glancing back a few times in concern but Ambrosia's face was unusually stony, Bella having guilt written across hers. When the bell finally rang after an immensely tense lesson, the shy girl was quick to leave, Bella following, tripping over her own feet down the corridor as Ambrosia fled toward the Cullens, all of which were waiting by the lockers to go to lunch together. Edward smiled when she approached but it turned to a frown when he saw her face.
Bella grabbed Ambrosia's forearm and she whipped around, seething.
"What?!" her voice was a harsh biting whisper, she despised people bringing up her parent's deaths, she didn't understand it herself. Bella's face showed her panic and Ambrosia simmered down slightly, taking Bella's hand. "I think you should just stop meddling Bella, some things are better off left unsaid" she informed and continued toward her new friends, Rosalie wrapping an arm around her when she was within distance, glaring at Isabella and Ambrosia couldn't help but feel guilty, Bella and Ambrosia were not that different, she didn't deserve this horrible treatment that she was experiencing.
"What happened?" Fred asked, moving close to his brother's mate, looking at her with intense eyes.
"Your friends at La Push have fed Bella some stories, she thinks my parents are involved." she scoffed, rolling her eyes in a very unnatural reaction from her. "She's close Freddie, if not already there." she looked meaningfully in his eyes and he swore under his breath. For some reason, he didn't seem to want Bella to know.
"It will be better when you tell her Fred" Edward promised and Rosalie looked like she was going to boil over, her anger bubbling and Ambrosia couldn't help but feel guilty again. Out of nowhere, a cold hand took hers and she looked up into the golden eyes of Jasper, pain rolling through them.
"This isn't your fault Rosia. This has been happening for a while." just from Jaspers words, she felt calmer, his gift definitely contributing to that, she was sure.
"Ambrosia" Edward caught her attention and she looked over at him, golden eyes meeting green and she blushed. His smile was infectious for her. "Do you want some food?" she nodded, that being her excuse to get away from the building conflict between Rosalie and Freddie.
