I sat up in bed and tried to gather my thoughts, tugging at my pj sleeves as they pooled at my elbows. But they kept sliding back down, so I gave up all together. Looking through my grimoire, I clasped my necklace delicately. All the drawings, scriptures of spells, enchantments and more passed by my eyes. Ophelia contacted me and told me that it'd be best to take the night off after what happened, and I agreed to it.
"...did ya see my super shoot...?" Grim murmured in his sleep.
"My arms kinda feel sore from Ace and Deuce holding me back, and I still can't sleep." I whispered. "Not to mention, Grim's sleep talking... maybe some fresh air will help me." I nodded, locking the book and putting it back in my bag. I tug on my sneakers, and crept out of my room.
—————————
Once I was outside on the staircase, I let myself wander as I stood in one place. My thoughts went back to Aunt Sam. It's been a while since I've been here. I miss her....Shawn and Elaine, too....I hope they're okay....without knowing, I let a few tears fall.
"I hope I can get back home soon..." I sighed, drying my eyes with my sleeves.
"Please, whoever's our there watching over me, look over Aunt Sam and my brother and sister in my place, until I get back. IF I can get back...' I close my eyes and let my senses take in the faint whisper of the wind.
I heard rustling, and a voice call out, "Who are you?"
My eyes opened and I freeze. "Is there an intruder..?" I whispered. I slowly turn around and my eyes land on....another person.
Pale skin as light as the moon, pointed ears, gleaming black hair, and vibrant green eyes. He looked so...ethereal....like a ghost....but what stood out the most from him were a pair of elongated black horns curving out and up above his head.
His presence, it seemed so alluring and so mysterious. I couldn't help but be hypnotized.... I turned to face him fully.
From a small distance of where I stood on the steps, with the gate being the only thing separating us, he seemed surprised by my appearance.
"Well, this is a shock. You're of the blood of human." He noticed. I stayed silent as I clasped my hands together out of nervousness. But my eyes move up to the armband around his jacket.
'Black and green....isn't that-'
"Do you live here? This building has been abandoned for quite a long time. I've been quite fond of it as a place I could be left alone with the silence." He explains.
"I-if you don't mind me asking...who are you?" I asked subtly. His eyes widened in surprise.
"Who am...you're not aware of who I am? Truly?" He asked and I shook my head no. "Hm....is that so?" His features softened. "That is...exceedingly rare...what may I call you?" He asks.
"I-I'm the prefect of this dorm. My name is-" but then I stop. Didn't it say somewhere that if you give someone with fae-like features your actual name, they can hold it over you and control you? That's another thing I'd last expect.
I need a name....but which name should I use when he's here?! Kristie? Laura? Abigail?!
"Cassia." I blurted without thinking. I covered my mouth in shock. Out of all the names, why that one?! It's been so long...since I spoke that name...I guess I can't take it back now... "...i-it's Cassia." I repeat, letting my arms drop.
"Cassia? An unusual name..." he murmured. "And I'm...." but he pauses before changing to, "No, it's best if I don't. You not knowing will grant you safety for your own benefit. For the moment you hear it, you'll feel a chill overcome your senses. As an exception for your ignorance, I'll allow you to call me whatever you wish." He grants. "Though, you may come to regret it one day..." I catch him whispering.
'He's so weird. Then again, it's a school full of weirdos...' I thought.
"Never the less....if there are people living here, it means this abandoned building is no longer abandoned. Such a shame. I'll have to find another place for my nightly strolls." He backs up from the gate and gives a deep bow. "Well then, I bid you adieu..." with a smile, and a shower of light, he was gone.
"He's gone!" I whispered. My shock faded after a while, and I breathe in more air. I guess he knows my 'name' now. I'll have to find a way to get used to it if he shows up again.....
Suddenly I feel my head pounding. And....I see...More ink spilling....
The image vanished soon after.
"I think I've had enough fresh air. I gotta get some sleep..." I yawned and walked up the stairs and back inside. I look out the door one last time at where the horned figure stood. I stayed silent, and shut the door.

"Evenin', Leona. Brought ya dinner. And got another job done." Ruggie knocked on the bedroom door, plate of food in hand, placing it on the desk. He and Leona has switched out of their school uniforms for their dorm gear.
"You're quote the efficient one, Ruggie." Leona nods in approval.
"Well, obviously. If it's for you, I'd do it ASAP!" Ruggie grins.
"Don't flatter me. You're doin it for yourself." Leona waves off.
"...no. It's for US." Ruggie corrects. "Everyone wants to turn this world on it's head. The hyenas in the legend of the King of Beasts followed him because they wanted to improve their place in life. It's only natural I do the same."
"Then be discreet while 'hunting'. Don't leave any evidence." Leona jabs a finger at him.
Ruggie smirks. "Of course! It's hyena policy to NEVER leave a scrap of prey behind." He turns to leave, but another thought crosses his mind. "By the way, for the next prey, the dorm and its target?"
"Lemme think..." Leona gestures a thought pose. "How about a wolf that likes to sneak around eavesdropping on others?"
"Huh?" Ruggie hummed. Leona's acid eyes dart to the cracked-open door.
"Fresh-meat, I know you're there. Might wanna find a new hobby with those big-ass ears of yours." Leona frowns.
A figure walks through and stands by the door. It's Jack.
Jack stands in his spot, not looking at Leona.
"And what do you want so late? Homesick and want a lullaby?" Leona stares.
"Lemme sing for ya~." Ruggie chirps.
"Tell me why. Why are you guys doing something horrible as this?" Jack demands softly.
"Ah, so you want a bedtime story. Okay, I've got one." Leona smirks. But then scowls as he spins his tale. "For two years in a row, we've gone up against Malleus and Diasomnia in the first round of the tournament. In the end, we were annihilated. A participation trophy. Savanaclaw has taken down opponents one after another, but even we were like newborn kittens: we didn't have a chance to open our eyes. That unsightly state was broadcasted to the entire world. And you know what happened in the end? The leader was branded as incompetent and scouts from pro leagues and sponsors never came....."
"That's...cause you weren't good enough..." Jack fit the pieces together.
"Precisely." Leona nods. "Until last year, we literally weren't committed to personal affairs. Having an honest match with that monster opponent without coming up with something in advance was futile. We knew we'd lose, we still never concocted a plan. To hear that about Savanaclaw, The Dorm founded on the King of Beasts' Persistence, must've been a shock."
"But that doesn't make the way you're attacking students any less wrong!" Jack fumed.
" 'Wrong'?" Leona spat the word like bile on his lips. "Y'know, Howl, I'm only doing what's best for the future of Savanaclaw? If we take down Malleus, we'll get revenge from all those years ago and the glory of Savanaclaw is redeemed. It's already been decided that if we don't win this year, he's entered into the Hall of Fame. This is our final chance. And you want to give it up for your sense of justice? Do you wish to destroy your upperclassman's future hopes?"
"N-no that's-"
"Using your head when chasing prey the basics of hunting. There's nothing low about it." Leona reminds him.
"And in this school, it's survival of the fittest. Goody-goodies don't stand a chance." Ruggie sneakily adds.
"Leona, if you just gave it your all, you'd have no problems facing Diasomnia!" Jack urges. "Your play from three years ago...I-"
"Don't talk like you know everything!" Leona roars, standing menacingly in his spot. " 'Give it my all'? Pathetic. Even if I did, nothing will change. Now leave if you'd want to see another day."
Jack bites his tongue and obeys his leader.
Ruggie stares at the spot where jack stood. "That guy's a liability. Want me to get rid of him?"
"Hold on." Leona stops him. "Even if he goes and tells the headmaster, he's got no evidence. Plus we need him to destroy Malleus. Keep a close ion him for now."
"You got it." Ruggie nods and scurries off for the night.
Leona sighs and sits back on his bed. "Damn Fresh-meat, sounds like my older brother...." he shakes his head.
—————————
And where do we feature?
"We will murder Mufasa! And Simba, too." Scar claims. "So that will be king!"
"Long live the King!" The hyenas chanted.
Yes my teeth and ambitions are bared.
Be Prepared!
—————————
"Shit! Shit! Shit! I can't believe I got up late!" I muttered. I skittered from the bathroom braiding my hair frantically, then pulled on my other boot. My uniform was a mess, but I managed to smooth it out and grab my jacket, tie and bag which thankfully I left by the door coming back from yesterday.
"Oh, your up! Breakfast had started! We gotta move!" Grim ushered, as he leapt onto my shoulder as I ran for the stairs.
—————————
We jogged towards Main Street when Grim brought up, "By the way where'd you go last night? You were gone when I went to the bathroom."
"It's kind of a long story..." I put it. I explained what happened last night, minus the name part.
"Some weirdo with horns on his head? And his name?"
"He never gave it to me. He said I can call him whatever I want."
"Hmm...then how's 'Tsunotaro'?" He suggested adventure I fumbled for my tie.
"That could work!" I agreed. 'But I'll find my own for him....'
"If Tsunotaro's a student here, we'll probably cross paths with him at some point. And you gotta introduce me! Never met a human with horns before!" He chirped.
"G'morning Charlie!" Cater waved. Riddle was beside him but he wakes straight up to me.
"Your tie's a little off. You best dress for success by following rules around your attire." He instructs while fixing the tie carefully around my neck. "Or else your residents might not listen to you. Then again, it's not as bad with you being the only one." He finished tying and smiles satisfied. "There! Good as new!" He steps back.
"Hey, why aren't Ace and Deuce with you?"
"As of rule no. 249, they're feeding the flamingos while wearing pink." Riddle nods. "And Charlotte, there was another accident last night."
I gasped. More getting hurt?! I can't keep track of all the accidents!
"According to a portrait that witnessed it, the victim was a second year from Scarabia."
"Happened in the kitchen to someone named Jamil Viper." Cater reports.
"And since it's still breakfast, they're probably still in the cafeteria. Let's go talk with them." Riddle beckoned and the four of us left.
—————————
[There should be a GIF or video here. Update the app now to see it.]
We made it to the cafeteria and ignoring the students around us, we focused on finding our target.
"He's got dark skin and long black hair....there he is!" Cater points in his direction. We scurry as fast as possible to their area.
"Oi, you're the one that got hurt in the kitchen yesterday? Spill it!" Grim states.
"What do you guys wants out of the blue so suddenly?" Jamil narrowed his eyes. But the other guy beside him...
"Agh! It's that crazy raccoon that set my butt on fire during the entrance ceremony!" He flew back.
Oh yea, I remember him! I hope he's okay after what happened....
"Grim, it would do you well to watch how you speak to people." Riddle glares. It softens upon speaking towards the two. "We apologize for bothering you both."
"The lead of Heartslabyul and the violent raccoon together?" The white haired guy laughed, "Well, this is interesting!"
"I ain't no raccoon! My name is Grim, and this is Charlie, my back up."
"Hello..." I wave shyly. Thankfully I wasn't called his underling. I preferred 'backup' over that any day.
"Ooh! I remember you as well! Kalim Al-Asim, lead of Scarabia! And the vice lead, Jamil Viper! So good to meet you! You look so much prettier without anything hiding your face!" Kalim introduces and grabbed my hand, shaking enthusiastically.
I giggles lightly at his spontaneousness. And blush at the compliment.
"This guy's got a screw loose..." Grim whispered as I pulled my hand back gently.
"So what do you wish to know about my injury?" Jamil directed his gaze to me.
"Investigation of sorts." I put it.
"I don't mind." He accepts. "Last night, I was in the kitchen preparing agemanju with lamb per Kalim's request."
"It's the best, why don't you guys try it sometime?"
"Kalim, please, don't get sidetracked."
"Oops! My Bad!"
He continues, "While I was chopping up the ingredients, for some reason my hand slipped and I cut myself." He nods to the bandages around his hand.
"But he's good with a knife even the master chef was in awe!" Kalim puts in. "You sure you weren't tired from magift practice?"
"No. Not so much that my hand would slip like that..." Jamil denied. "However while I was cooking, for a minute, I felt my consciousness fade." Okay, that's another clue.
"Were you dizzy or something?" I urged.
"Most would probably think so. But I felt that feeling before.... my only guess is that it would probably be someone's unique magic..."
"Right! Like your magic is-" but Jamil was fast to cover Kalim's mouth before he could continue. Kalim pushed his hand away and looked offended. "Why'd you cover my mouth?"
"This isn't me we're talking about!" Jamil says sternly. "Anyways, I think they must've use Magic to control the movements of others."
"Now I get it. That's why everyone thought people were just being careless." Cater concludes.
"And since it was only for a second, those who were injured would mistake being manipulated for being careless as well." Riddle adds. "Even when I fell down the stairs, I didn't feel like someone had controlled me to do so."
"Trying to find who's got that magic... this just turned extremely difficult. What now?" Cater asked.
"Magic that controls people? If I could do something like that, I make everyone give me all the bread in school 24/7!" Grim imagines.
