You had been settled down on your sofa with a book that you had put off reading for too long when someone knocked at your door. You hoped it was just a neighbour asking for some milk so that you could go back to reading but it was actually your best friend Moira. She was stood in your doorway, mascara trailing down her cheeks, still in her uniform from work. There wasn't any plan for her to visit, so concern instantly hit you.
You ushered her into your home and got her a piping hot mug of tea to help calm her down before she could tell you about everything that had happened.
She lit up a cigarette as she begun to settle your nerves in telling you what was going on.
"I need to find a new job. I've completed screwed up my current one," she admitted. "I don't think that I can ever go back there."
You offered her a gentle smile, trying to reassure her that everything wasn't nearly as bad as it may seem for her. "I'm sure it's not that bad. What'd you do?"
From first assumptions, you thought that she might had broken something with a lot of sentimental value to her employer, but it wasn't anything nearly as simple. Moira was a maid for a family and had only been employed by them for a short while, so you weren't certain how else she could have wrecked her chance at staying employed by them.
"I had sex with Mr Langdon," she said, taking a drag from her cigarette. "I felt so alone, and he started to flirt with me. I know that I shouldn't have done it, but I just got lost in the moment of having someone who cared about me. If his wife ever found out, she'd kill me."

"It's going to be okay."
You didn't know if it would be okay, but you weren't about to leave your best friend worrying on her own. You would be there to support her no matter what.
"Everyone does stupid things, Moira," you said. "You're always safe here. If you don't think that you can go back to work there, you can stay here until you find somewhere else. Just know that I am always here for you and able to help you out if you need it."
She gave you a gentle smile. "Thank you, Y/N. I just needed to talk to someone about it. I doubt she'll ever find out and I'll never do anything with him again. I'm sure it'll just go back to normal."
If only she were right.
