《How I Survived (Zombie Story)》Chapter Thirty Two

We all walked down the city streets which were filled with walkers. We easily killed them with knives, and silenced pistols. We didn't want to make too much noise.
Miranda killed the last walker and took stance beside me. She elbowed me. "Look."
She pointed to the sky, and I saw a huge ribbon of smoke in the sky, not too far away. Soon the whole group was looking too. "That's probably where the walkers are traveling." Mr. Tim said.
"Someone must be there," Luis said.
"Well, we should stay away from the fire for now... A lot of walkers must be over there." Mr. Tim said.
Luis nodded in agreement.
••••••••••
We all made camp in the middle of the city road since it was empty. It wasn't really a safe idea, but I was just following the rules... For now.
Miranda and Hunter were laying on each side of me, and Jone was told to take watch.
"It's your turn," Jone told me.
I nod and stood. They had two people taking watch. It was me and Luis. Luis wasn't sleeping, he was watching me.
I stood beside Luis and watched the darkness.
I closed my eyes and breathed in. "Hey, no sleeping during the watch," Luis says. I roll my eyes and turn my back to him.
Then I saw something move in the darkness. The only glimpse I caught of it was a red cloth. I quickly lifted my gun. "Someone is there," I whispered to Joe. "Maybe a walker, if it's not within camping ground, let him be." Luis mumbles.
It wasn't a walker. I could tell because of the horrible gut wrenching feeling deep down. Then, a smoke grenade tumbled towards us.
"Grenade!" Luis yelled, pushing me down. We both tumbled to the ground. The smoke grenade exploding and everyone was up now.

Gunshots fired through the quiet night tearing through the silence and Luis fell to the ground. I sunk down beside him.
"Dang it.." He said through gritted teeth. "What?!?" I blurted. He was holding his arm and from the light of the campfire, I could see the glistening of blood. "I'm fine, he just got my arm." He mumbled.
More gunshots rang through the air. It was only one person. I later learned that.
The smoke cleared and Mr. Tim was shooting at the person. Finally, Mr. Tim managed to shoot the person's leg. They fell to the ground.
I began to run towards them, but Hunter stopped me.
"Wait." He said. Walkers were attracted by the shooter's gun sound and now they were attacking him.
"We should help him!" I blurt.
"Why? He just shot Luis in the arm." Miranda asks.
"We don't help killers." Mr. Tim said, ripping a cloth and hurrying to me and Joe.
"Linda take out the walkers and grab anything the man had on him." Mr. Tim told the blonde girl. She nods and walks past me.
"Nice people don't make it far in this world." She said when she walked past me, my face burned as I snatched the cloth from Mr. Tim and helped Luis. Luis quickly stood, brushing past me. "I told you I was fine.." he snarled.
I sighed and sat down on the ground, and leaned against a car. Luis was talking to Mr. Tim, and Luis and Jone were taking watch.
Hunter sat beside me, "She's wrong." He said.
I looked at him. "Maybe she's right. Nice people-" He cut me off, and touched my hand.
"You're still alive." He said.
I rolled my eyes. "I'm too nice?" I asked. "We'll need nice people in this world now." He mumbles.

"Hunter comes take the watch," Luis says to him. Hunter nods, standing.
Miranda sat beside me, "I hate this job." She said.
"Me too."
"We need to escape... I know this place has safety... But..." She trails off, staring into the distance.
"We are gonna escape," I promise. Miranda sighs and folds her arm. The blonde chick, named Linda, comes back holding a mask, and a bag.
"What's this?" Linda asks Mr. Tim. He shows her a syringe with green liquid in it.
I noticed it. That was the medicine that healed Bella. Was it really an antidote? Miranda looks at me. "That's the same stuff.." She whispers.
I nod. "It looks like a chemical," Joe says, holding his arm.
"Give it to the Doctor. Maybe he can figure out what it is." Mr. Tim said.
"And the guy was wearing a mask.." Linda says, showing Mr. Tim the mask. It had a clown painted on it.
Them. The masked people. They were back. Jone looked at me and Miranda from the corner of his eye.
We were in danger. The masked gang had followed us. Whatever they were looking for, they wanted it badly... And we know that they are dangerous.
••••••••••
"So do we tell them?" Miranda asks once we made it back to the safety camp.
"No," I said. We passed by a crying baby, being held by its mother. Miranda attacks my shoulder and finally grabs me. She turns me around to face her.
She looked tired. Torn. Depressed. I have never seen her so depressed. Not even depressed about not having her makeup anymore. Depressed about how we will survive.
"Listen. I know Linda made you angry earlier with the nice people die statement... But those mask people kill other people for no reason." Miranda told me.
"They could be our chance to get the heck out of here," I tell her.
"You're being heartless." She snaps.
I open my mouth to say something, but a gun points into my back. "Keep going fresh meat." The man behind me commanded.
We kept walking and I lowered my voice. "If the mask people start an ambush... these people we are with can easily fight them off, while we run," I tell her.
"What about the others? Bella, Lucy, Marvin..? What about them?" She asks.
"We'll find them." Is all I can say.

Tales of the Legendary Scholar
They meet in the most unlikely moment and turned their life around. Freidrech newly arrived in his own nation's capital city, which is so foreign to him compared to his village's idyllic and nondiscriminatory atmosphere, after he is forced to come. Now, he is facing a royal prince and tells him to bow. This draws out one of his late father's teachings from the deepest recesses in his mind. "The blood of your great ancestors runs in your veins. Don't easily bow down to anyone, or accept suppression by any being, not even from a monarch, unless you pledge your allegiance to him. Also, giving in to oppression is directly telling the oppressor that you're easy prey and open for manipulation." He is uncertain on how to face this oppression right now. Will he bows or not? What will he do to uphold his father's words while keeping his life safe? As for the prince, Theodrech has nothing to do with Freidrech, so he wishes to let this slip, but the boy opens his mouth and proposes the most ludicrous challenge he ever heard and triggers his curiosity. "I, Freidrech Goederf Gerboud, son of the late Village Chief Louvel Gerboud of Wrilon, will challenge you, Your Highness, to a battle of riddles… If you win, I will not only bow but be your servant for the rest of my life." This amuses the prince. It is the first he met a boy of the same age who is not intimidated by the air of authority he projects. Rather, this boy challenges him. "Why are you so headstrong? In fact, bowing to me is an honor. You saw the King's noble Knights. When they saw me, they bowed," says Theodrech, testing Freidrech. "Allow me to be forward, Your Highness. For me, bowing to a monarch does not guarantee loyalty. If I were you, I rather have men who stand straight in my presence but who got my back, than bowing men who are dreaming of my death," replies Freidrech. The prince’s curiosity increases. A huge smile is seen on his face. Prince Theodrech decides to take Freidrech under his wing. Little did they know, this boy who Prince Theodrech takes in as his confidant and friend in the most ridiculous fashion is someone indispensable in his life and the one who can help him succeed the throne when he almost believes he has lost. Thus, the Tales of the Legendary Scholar begins. ------ o ------ Old Synopsis: A famous ancient adage stated, behind a successful man is a woman BUT… In these lands, the monarchs are seeking not a woman to stand behind them but the man hailed as the Legendary Scholar.
