Sid and I walked into the small town station with Dewey and Sheriff Burke in tow. They sat us in the middle of the bullpen next to a small desk while they tried to get a hold of our dad "are you sure you don't need to go to the hospital?" Sidney asked as I grimaced when I moved.
"No hospitals," I whined, holding a hand to my ribs. "I just want to get out of here," I huffed, seeing officers looking over in our direction as I rolled my eyes. By now, Gale Weathers would have released some kind of report about our attack.
Minutes later, Dewey approaches, looking put out, "Did you reach our Dad?" Sidney questions as Dewey shook his head, confused as he sat by us.
"You're sure it was the Hilton?" I nodded in confirmation remembering how many times dad had recited it to us
"At the airport."
Dewey sighed, running a hand through his hair. "He's not registered. Could he have gone to another hotel?" I looked at Sidney as she shrugged
"I don't know. I guess," I frowned. How could they not find him he's been gone all day.
"We'll find him, Don't worry," Dewey told us confidently, but his expression was the exact opposite.
"We know," Sidney said, giving Dewey a polite smile just as Tatum walks over and sits with us.
"you two, okay?" Sidney gave Tatum a nod as she accepted her best friend's hug.
"Peachy," I muttered, crossing my arms as the sheriff's door opens and Billy is being led out by two officers "Billy," I whisper, giving him a sad smile knowing there was nothing I could do to help him.
Sidney lowered her head so she didn't have to see him. Tatum sees this and storms up to her brother and another officer, "Hey Dewey. Can we go now?" she asked him impatiently, tapping her foot.
"Hold up a sec..." the two officers talk lowly to each other, making Tatum huff like a spoiled brat.
"Goddamnit, Dewey!".
Dewey turns to her, his face red with embarrassment. "What did Mama tell you? When I wear this badge, you treat me like a man of the law."

Tatum rolled her eyes at her older brother and grabbed Sidney's arms, gently helping her up. "I'm sorry, Deputy Dewey-boy, but we're ready to go."
I nodded in agreement, standing up, trying not to show how much my ribs were actually hurting me. I wanted to avoid a trip to the emergency room. "I'm getting really late for work too."
Sheriff Burke motioned to the back of the station, "Use the back way. Avoid the circus".
"Right," I agree and walk to the back exit with the others following me. I had to leave. The smell of donuts, coffee, and self-righteousness was beginning to get to me.
Opening the door slowly, I sigh happily. I was glad we were able to avoid the horde of reporters waiting for us.
"I'll get the car. Wait here" We all nod as Dewey takes off quietly to get his cruiser.
"Hello Sidney, Katherine" I spin around to see Gale standing behind us smiling or more like grinning deviously
"Gale," I hiss back as the street lamps glint off her white teeth.
"Some night. Are you alright?" Gale asks with a fake smile of concern as I felt my eye twitch in annoyance. An awkward silence occurs as neither of us answers her questions, "What happened?" Gale persisted.
I could see my sister struggling with the situation.
"Katherine, you look like you've been to hell and back" I grit my teeth, knowing I have bruises already forming on my face.
I wouldn't give Gale the satisfaction of getting anything out of me. As much as I wanted to tell her where to stick her questions, I don't think I would be helpful right now.
"They're not answering any questions. Just leave us alone, okay?" Tatum told her with an attitude as I crossed my arms, shaking my head; how does Gale always manage to capture the worst times in our lives
"It's okay, Tatum. She's just doing her job. Right, GALE?" I said sarcastically put emphasis on her name
"Yes, that's right," Gale told us proudly, oblivious to my sarcasm.
Dewey turns into the alley with his squad car, and the other news people have wised up to the fact we were here, and they begin to flock to the passage, making my sister look like a deer in the headlights as she looks at Gale.

"How's the book?" Sidney inquires quietly as I look at Gale accusingly, remembering the book she started straight after our mother's death.
"It'll be out later this year," Gale said brightly, almost announcing it to the other reporters behind her.
I clenched my fists, hoping to relieve some anger as I fought to keep myself calm "We'll look for it," I told her offhandedly, turning my back to walk to Dewey's squad car when she uttered words that made me see red.
"I'll send you a copy."
Before anyone knew what had happened, my fist had smashed into the side of Gale Weathers face sending her reeling backward and knocking her into her cameraman, and they both tumble onto the pavement with a surprised sound.
I heard Sidney gasp and Tatum laugh as Dewey grabbed my shoulder, shoving me into the front seat of the cruiser as cameras flashed from everywhere and reporters started to call out my name desperately as they wanted their big break.
Dewey walked over to the driver's seat as Sidney and Tatum got into the car before we sped off. The four of us sat in stunned silence until Tatum broke it with her laughter "God, I love it. 'I'll send you a copy.' BAM! Bitch went down. 'I'll send you a copy.' BAM! Kat—Super Bitch!".
I shook my head, smirking that was something Casey would have said had she been here right now. The weird thing is Casey and Tatum were a lot alike, which is funny considering Tatum, and I disliked each other.
I knew why we didn't like each other, and it was something Casey and I never had to fight over, Stuart Macher. Casey admitted to dating him just because he asked and was hot, but when he started asking questions about me, she knew.
I never thought about a relationship with Stu until Casey made me realize that I thought of him as more than just my best friend, but by then, he was with Tatum, and I didn't want to be like my mother.
I didn't want to have another woman's man behind her back.
Turning around in my seat, I noticed Sidney looking troubled. "What's up?" I question her as she looked up at me, her brown eyes meeting mine, the ones I shared with our brother, although she didn't know that
"Nothing," raising my eyebrows at her, she sighed, "I just don't want you getting into trouble again."
Moving back around, I sat thinking about the possible consequences of my actions until Dewey piped up, "I don't think Gale would press charges. She would probably be embarrassed to say a 17-year-old took her down".
I think we all smiled at that one. "It was wrong for you to punch her though, Kat, even if it was a great hit" rubbing my knuckles, I knew both Gale and I would have evidence of our spat by the end of the night.
I sniffed as we pulled up to the Riley household knowing Sid would make a scene. "Right, Tatum, take Sid inside, and I will drop Kat off at work" I got out of the car and opened to door for Sidney, who hugs me as soon as she gets out.
"Be careful," she whispers in my ear.
Nodding, I pushed her back, trying to unwind her arms from me, "I promise. Call me at the store if you need me. Just try not to need me," I joked.
Sid nodded, walking towards the house with Tatum waving at me until I got back into the car, and we started off toward Clive's store.
Sighing in fatigue, I looked out the window as we pulled up to the local supermarket I work at, knowing Clive would be wondering where I was. I had already been late when he called. I just hope he wasn't upset at me.
Feeling Dewey put his hand on my shoulder, I looked over at him. "If you don't feel up to it, Kat, I can take you back?" I shook my head and thanked him for the ride, and got out, walking over to the front of the store. I was very aware of my movements. The pain hadn't gone away yet.
I felt eyes watching my every move and smiled, knowing it was probably just Dewey in his overprotective 'brother' mode, he'd been like it since forever, but I already had a brother. I just wish he was here right now.
