My grandfather always told me about "The Hide Behind" as a child. My grandparents lived next door to my parents, in between there was a small area of thick trees with a single trail through it. He would always tell me to watch for The Hide Behind when walking through the trees. He described it as a tall man that hid in the trees and, well, hides behind you. If you looked back and saw him he'd take you away. I knew he would just tell me that to scare me, I never believed it was true. However, I was shocked to find other stories of this "tree man" who followed children. I don't believe in Slenderman any more than Hide Behind, though I'm not sure if that's because I've grown up and I know better or I'm afraid I'll really see him one day. Part of me wants to believe such a thing exists, I can't say why.
