《INFINITY, peeta mellark ✔️》ix. establishing trust

body entered the cold water, she felt as if she was at home. The memories of District Four flash through her mind as she swims, the faces of her family flooding through. She breaks the surface and takes a deep breath as she sees some of the tributes struggling the figure out how to leave their platforms, something that will more than likely cause their deaths.
There is the sound of struggling coming from almost every direction, people already fighting one another. However, the loudest comes from her left where she knows Peeta was originally. It's that thought that causes her to turn her head and see him fighting with another male tribute. A million thoughts seemingly run through her head before she begins to move towards him, her mind not winning the argument this time.
Elena struggles, but manages, to pull the man off the teenage boy, the look of shock running over Peeta's face when he sees the blonde helping him out. With it now being two on one, their odds have grown dramatically and yet the man still seems to have the upper hand. Whilst Peeta has strength, he doesn't know how to swim properly and effectively enough to really help and whilst she can swim well, Elena is relatively weak. Therefore, it's like this man is just facing one person.
She kicks at his shins as hard as she can, not wanting to be taken below the surface in a fight she most likely won't win. She can only imagine the anger her brother is feeling back home, annoyed at her utter stupidity. Elena is currently questioning her own actions as her and Peeta try to survive.
The man manages to push her away and begins to drag Peeta under the water, looking to kill him that way. Elena grabs one of his arms, trying to pull him back up only to be brought down herself. The three battle beneath the surface, the two teenagers trying to coordinate some sort of attack that will get him away. Elena kicks at him and the man floats back, his head hitting the platform which causes him to fall unconscious and will unfortunately be the cause of his death.

Elena tries to swim up, knowing that Peeta has already made his way back to the surface. Being further down, it's a little harder to move up and for that reason, Peeta gently reaches down and grabs her arm, helping her to the top.
"Elena!" The voice calls the second she breaks through the water as she coughs due to amount of time she'd spent under there. Peeta has a gentle hold on her waist now, his other hand holding onto the platform. "Over here!"
Elena looks over to see Finnick and Katniss standing together, both of them looking extremely worried about their District Partners. Peeta lets go of her as she starts to swim over, going slowly so that the boy from Twelve can keep up with her, she knows he's not a strong swimmer so any help will be good for him. As she reaches Finnick, he holds his hand out and she grabs it, helping her out before he moves to do the same with Peeta.
Elena gives a small nod of thanks when Finnick hands her a few knives and lays his arm over her shoulder, giving her a small squeeze before letting go. The four of them move away and towards the trees in order to escape from the remaining tributes that could be about, she has no doubt in her mind that the tributes from One and Two are still alive and kicking. Their group would probably be the first they hunt down, for Finnick and Katniss more so than herself and Peeta.
"Ok! Hold up," Finnick calls to them as they get a fair bit away. Elena stops quickly, breathing deeply due to the events that had just happened. It's boiling, all of them are sweating intensely and to be perfectly honest, she wishes she was back in the water.
"God, it's hot. We got to find fresh water," Peeta breathes just as three canons boom around them and Elena realises that the bloodbath must be coming to an end. Guilt weighs down on her as she thinks about that man she definitely killed, the man who more than likely has a family of his own to get back to. A family who never would've expected him to have to go back in.

"Well, I guess they're not holding hands anymore," Finnick comments with a small smile which instantly puts Katniss on edge.
"You think that's funny?" The girl from District Twelve hisses back in response, her gaze focused on him.
"Every time that canon goes off, it's music to my ears. I don't care about any of them,"
Elena knows that's a lie, especially if Johanna is still out there. They have a pretty strong friendship. Instinctively, Elena clutches Finnick's arm tightly when Katniss takes a weapon out, afraid that their alliance is already over and they'd kill them right here. She's not much help, Finnick would be on his lonesome.
"Want to face the career pack alone? What would Haymitch say?" Finnick says as he slowly manoeuvres so he's in front of Elena slightly just in case Katniss does decide to lash out.
"Haymitch isn't here,"
"Let's just keep moving," Peeta interjects, not wanting any unnecessary fights to occur.
Katniss gives Finnick one last look before taking off after Peeta, allowing the two District Four tributes to be with each other. The older of the two turns to the other and she can almost see the disapproval in his eyes which makes her wince a little.
"What you did was stupid, the last thing I want is to lose you in here, okay? Don't put yourself in unnecessary danger, it's not worth it," Finnick scolds and yet his tone is still gentle, not wanting to cause any discomfort. The girl nods and he gives her a small smile, nodding to where Katniss and Peeta had gone to signal that they should follow them.
The four of them continue on with Peeta slashing away at vines that are in their way, allowing for a better path. Elena walks in front of Finnick who insisted on taking the end so that he could keep watch.
"Peeta, no!" Katniss yells and suddenly the boy goes flying back, knocking into both his district partner and Elena who tumble to the ground. Elena yelps as she lands harshly, blood seeping from the small wound on her hand. "Peeta? He's not breathing!"
Katniss is frantic when Finnick rushes over and pushes her out of the way, beginning CPR instantly in hopes of bringing him back. The girl looks confused and as she draws her bow to attack Finnick, Elena steps in the way and shakes her head to indicate that Finnick is in fact helping and not putting him in any more danger.
After what seems like forever to them, the boy opens his eyes and Finnick ceases the treatment, leaning back and watching. Katniss practically doings herself at him, hugging him close and checking on him. Elena, in the other hand, gives the older man a small smile which he returns.
When the District Twelve finally pull away, Peeta gives a thank you to the man who only nods in response. The teenager then turns his gaze to the blonde teenager who is just watching what's happening and smiles at her, almost as a thank you for what happened earlier. Both of their allies had saved his life and they'd only just started, no matter what Katniss thinks on the matter, Peeta knows they're quality allies — the trust has already been established.

Re-Ordaining of the Chosen
Alea cheerfully hummed as she descended the steps, brimming in upbeat while her colleague, Quarren Leos, shot her a look of skepticism. “So… were you right about him?” he asked doubtfully. She came to a stop for a moment, her humming falling silent before she shook her head, waving her medium length light-blonde hair from side to side. “I was wrong about him.” Quarren raised an eyebrow in confusion at the convoluted response.“But you seem quite happy?” he asked again. “Because I am. But I was wrong about him. He was… so much more than I ever expected.” Alea looked at the sky overhead with a smile. “That boy… no, that man, is amazing. I firmly believe he will come to stand on top of any adversary he faces. He is destined. He is Chosen.” Quarren snorted as he stepped past, shaking his head. “Okay. Each to their own beliefs but you’re sounding like a nutjob. That skinny twig? Everyone calls him a cripple, you know,” he shook his head.“Rumours are always false, Leos,” Alea answered with a disapproving shake of her head. “You wouldn’t know. He is so, so much more.” “I saw him with my own two eyes. I didn’t see anything redeeming,” Quarren rebutted. “Well…” Alea chuckled. “You haven’t seen what I’ve seen.” In the year 917 of the Imperial Calendar, the Great War had just ended between dozens of nations. Farrien welcomed home millions of troops and warriors with the Archdukes of Aerianne and Kanaria leading them at the forefront. Since the founding of Farrien, the Aerianne and Kanarian Archduchies have been pillars upholding the Kingdom from enemies. It was common belief that they possessed special blood blessed by the Goddess Stecia, who gifted the lineage to the first King of Farrien when he first founded the country. All were ecstatic when the current generation of the two Archduchy's, after the war, agreed to let their children wed. The excitement was short-lived however when the Aerianne Princess proved to be a dragoness among men but the Kanarian Prince was worse than even mediocre. The Prince disappeared and the wedding was shortly forgotten as society lived on. Until one day the Young Heir of Kanaria returned to Farrien a changed man, bringing demise with him. Follow the story of the Chosen ordained by the Goddess of Time as he returns to the past to right his wrongs and set things back straight again! An undisputed being sits upon his throne, the Crown of damnation adorning his head. One gaze enough to make gods tremble, and one wave of his hand enough to make the mightiest of demons flee. An unfathomable cataclysm will surely arrive when such a being is slain and grasps another chance to walk among the living. This is a story of a monarch more ancient than time itself defying the absolution of death in his eternal strive to accomplish his primordial goal. And the Crown gazes on ravenously, its curse awaiting its next martyr. --- Story with an overpowered mc who still thinks with his brain, not muscles.
